Except most nights he won't be in the line up so what's he going to do fight the team 23 games later in the season? Mayfield can eat a few and lee will fight which would be along the spontaneous fights where it matters and a player is on the ice. Martin is not a deterrence imo
- Upstate_isles

I don’t know to me keeping Martin for fighting seems pretty dumb. The guy rarely has fought anyone when it was warranted the last couple of seasons. He’s hasn’t been an effective player for a while now.

He fights possession and productivity every game and went undefeated in 57 games last year

Agree. If it's Martin 10 years ago definitely. And if I had a vagina, I'd fingerbang myself. So there you go.

I don’t care about wins and losses in pre season as it’s obviously about finding chemistry and getting systems down etc. I just can’t help but be disappointed in both Anders Lee and JGP. They were playing against a minor league squad and not only didn’t put up a point as a line, but really basically unnoticeable. At least Lee is a bigger guy and can play physical in front of the net. JGP is just soft.
- kindlyrick

Engval having a step on the defender late in the 3rd and just being pushed away was soft as hell. That was terribleb

I'm not really putting any stock in the preseason for veteran guys who are locks to make the team. I haven't really watched any of the games so far, but those already know what their role on the team is going to be and there's no need for them to kill themselves in preseason games.
- eichiefs9

I get that but barzal was flying vs the rangers as we're horvat and duc. Id like to see effort being that Roy wants them conditioned this year. Also not a fan of holmstrom on line 2 yet but that may change as he gets used to Nelson and Palms

I'm not saying nobody tries, I'm just saying if there is a regular who has a guaranteed spot and they are taking it a bit easy in the preseason I'm not going to worry about it. I have no problem with guys going light and not getting hurt (See: Doughty, Drew) in a meaningless game.

Yeah Clutter still has some game left in him. Martin does not.

I'm surprised that Clutterbuck hasn't landed anywhere yet. He's fine as a 4th line/13th forward somewhere if he's making under $1M. Unless he plans on retiring or is asking for too much money/trying to stay close to LI for family reasons.

He may be retiring. I know his past few injuries had him considering it.

I thought the general consensus among the media was that he was still trying to play, but I might be remembering that wrong. Regardless, if he's not retiring, I'm pretty surprised unless he's being uber-picky on money/term or location. If he is retiring I'm surprised he hasn't announced it yet.

I agree chief. I still think both players will have frustrating runs during the season.

One of Lou's worst moves. I'd love to see what Roy would do to this roster.

Everybody knew the end of those two deals probably wouldn't be pretty and that's where we are now. I'm a little surprised at Pageau, he's only 31 and shouldn't be sharply declining yet but last year wasn't great. I would hope he has a bounce back year this season. Lee is pretty unsurprising to me though.

It's not a shock with Lee. Pageau is more of a surprise. He does remind me of Peca in terms of both not being the biggest guys and playing a physical style of play.

Yea i get that too but man they looked inept last game. Then again preseason in Philly with a 3rd of the building filled probably sucks

Hudson Fasching (lower body) is day to day, per #Isles.

If we use the Sorokin Scale of Injury Disclosures, this probably means Hudson Fasching's leg fell off.

Willing to place bets that if (and only if) the Islanders are out of the playoffs come deadline time, Brock Nelson will be a Nashville Predator. They have 3 first round picks and Trotz always seemed to really like him. Not to mention their center depth isn't ideal.
