Only way Swayman saves face is to fire that douche of an agent, then sign the offer.
If not, enjoy playing in Anaheim.

No choice but to hope the improvements at center and defense come through. They will need to keep shot totals low and odd man rushes to an absolute minimum. Hopefully Goalie Bob can fix up Korpisalo's game and make him serviceable.

Swayman is sitting and it's starting to feel like a trade is in the works.

Was thinking Utah - but either will do.

Not sure if we'll ever find out who's telling the truth here. But if that 64M was actually offered and Sawyman (and his agent) are trying to squeeze out even more ... (frank)'em

If you believe reporting, the rumor was that the bruins started at 6.5 and Swayman's camp was at McAvoy's contract around 9.5.

Since then, Bruins have come up to 7.8-8, No idea where Swayman's camp is right now. So the bruins have effectively come half way between the two numbers in this scenario. I guess we will see what happens.

Sad part is, some team is going to give him what he wants. If Swayman wants to stay he should probably intervene at this point.

If he's north of this, then I can't root for him here. That's more than Hellbyuck and Saaros. Both have a much larger body of work.

Didn't Hellebuyck get 8.5?

I also agree. I was going to say 8.125 was what I was thinking the ceiling should be. If he cant come down to that then let someone else pay it. It will suck to lose him but at that price he really isnt focused on being a part of a team and winning anymore. He is getting paid regardless if you have money to build a team around him or not. Negotiations are a two way street.

Close enough, he shouldn't be getting 8.5 period.

Yeah I agree. I think 8.5 could have been a discussion if Sweeney had taken a 2 year contract out of arbitration and Sway had another excellent year this year.

I think this needs to end one way or another. Autodraft gave me Swayman in two of my fantasy leagues so the dude needs to play one way or another.

Of course you could be real petty and ugly and not trade him and let him sit the entire season and then provide a tender again next off-season and lather/rinse/repeat...see what his value is when he becomes a UFA two years from now without any NHL games in that timeframe.

Of course that would be cutting off your nose to spite your face from the Bruins standpoint (nobody would ever want to come here) but it would certainly be painful for Sway...

I've been very vocal about complaining about not signing Sway to two years out of arbitration but to Sweeney's (Bruins) credit from a player's standpoint, I did see some quotes from Sweeney right after arbitration about the reasoning behind that and one was basically doing Swayman a favor because he expected Sway would get more than than the $3.47M during what would have been the second year (this season) of that contract. Swayman's team should take that into account...

Essentially, Sweeney made a very bad business decision but a very player friendly one...

Yeah, would not be a good look for Bruins to do that.

But I'd love to see another team do that to a player just to knock them down a peg or two...

I'm not super familiar with the rules, but if you let him sit out, wouldn't he then become a UFA to start next season or is he still an RFA under team control?

I believe there is a cutoff date in December that if he passes it then he is ineligible to play this season. Plus it would make him a UFA, I imagine if that happens the team would cut him loose. I'm going to look it up when I can.

I was trying to find this the other day but I BELIEVE he would still be a Bruins restricted free agent if he sat out the year.

I think you are an rfa until age 27 or once you have played 7 seasons. Unless the team doesn’t offer you a qualifying offer.

Yes, believe it is 5PM Dec 1st which is why Sweeney has said he expects a deal by Dec 1st.

Not to mention Sweeney trading Ullmark represents a commitment and trust in Swayman to be the goalie of the future. Dude has never been a starting goalie but wants to be paid like he has been a starting goalie. 8M is way too much for an unproven starter in the NHL. Let him sit for two years and ruin his career. All this because his poor feelings got hurt last year in arbitration. Snowflake, trade him instead of keeping his pettiness around.
Bruins don’t need a primadonna and could probably get into the playoffs with backup goalies.

They gave Swayman the keys to the car and he’s driving right off the cliff.

Ahh this makes sense. Swayman did receive a qualifying offer. I guess that means he will remain under team control as an RFA, but be ineligible to play this season.

I cant imagine if that happens either party will want to come to terms.

Yeah, he’s showing his true character. I’d stop negotiating with him and let him sit for a year.
Next summer make an offer and if not signed by training camp pack him up for trade.
You can’t have players who hate the team playing on the team. Dude is clearly a snowflake if he can’t handle last years arbitration

And... I could be wrong but ... I think he opted for arbitration.
