Seems like it’s all former players. I guess it’s the isles way of saying thanks for your service???

Edit : I don’t think it’s just a scouting problem. I think the isles have been subpar in player development for years. They need to address both….hopefully Roy has some input. I’m really liking Roy’s interviews, he makes a lot of sense when discussing players and the game.

I agree it is both. I get the draft is very difficult and not every player will make it. Just seems the Islanders do not put enough into scouting and player development like other teams. I think if Roy is here for the long term and has even more power, things should change for the better.

Have to give credit to the Islanders European scout Jim Paliafito who was key in Tsyplakov coming here and also key in the Islanders in on Shabanov.
He's probably one of if not the best scout in Europe right now.

I guess, if we're being fair, a few teams passed on him before he got to Florida and put it all together. So not total blame on the Isles, but still a tough one to let slip through your fingers. But it wasn't a scenario like the Caps trading Filip Forsberg for a pile of crap the same year they drafted him

Yeah I can see how a player just blossoms late. There’s just been an abundance of players drafted in the first who never made it. Makes you wonder if the player development is the culprit. I think Wahlstrom might be a good example. He’s at the end of his rope so I think we’re gonna see above all else, effort, which I think will lead to his success. So far after watching Roy, and Trotz prior, it’s become pretty apparent how important that role is. I think the organization does a disservice by placing “nice guys” in positions that could be better serviced. Eric Cairns to me doesn’t seem like that pedigree 🤷‍♂️

I think Lou should have given more say to Barry in terms of the roster. I thought that was a sore point with Barry. Patrick seems to be getting more say which is good. This is just not the same Lou, so it makes sense for him to rely on more help.

This has been a huge issue chief. Other teams have been able to rely on their farm team. Lou has been on the job for a while, so he had time to make more changes to Bridge and the scouting.

It seems like a lot of Brent Thompson job security without accountability for results. Heck I think Kenny Morrow is a legend for the cups and 1980, but after 3 decades (or just about) in that head scout seat, shouldn’t we be asking questions. I would like to see a revamping of “the system”. You gotta have Bridgeport competing every year.

Broken record time but scouting has been an issue since Jimmy D left. Jimmy was as much part of the success as Bill and Jimmy helped the Wings as well.

I do have some belief that Pageau can bounce back a little bit from a down year last season. I don't have high hopes for Lee, but if he can adjust his game to a third line type of role and still chip in some goals that would be a solid season for him.
