I believe he's going to start on the 2nd line with Kreider and Zib.

Pettersson is going to want 8 years at $7M I expect. I wouldnt pay that, but some team might.

If they are going to trade him, I hope it is sooner than later. Im not anti Karlsson, but I'd rather trade him, get some assets and re-sign Pettersson with that money.

Ive said it before, but the Sens need to be all in this year and they just brought in Ulmark (a fellow Swede) who they are hoping to extend. If we wanted to trade Karlsson, I expect Ottawa would be very willing to pay.

That sounds crazy to me. We just gave Graves 4.5x6 to be another Petts. It's been a complete failure, but that was the going rate for a defensive co-pilot in your top 4. It's possible the cap jump has distorted the market, but I'd rather put that money into someone who makes a bigger impact.

If I had to guess, the extension "talks" have already happened and you might be correct; he's asking for way more than Dubas wants to pay. Again, I would have traded him already. Now they risk him getting hurt, OR they risk trading him in the middle of a possible playoff chase. Doesn't make sense to me.

It made sense when they kept Guentz last year. They were still "going for it" so to speak. This year, they've obviously gone in the the retool/rebuild direction. Doing that work in the summer gives you the best flexibility.

What GM is going to give a 29 yr old defensive defensemen 8x$7M? Absolute max he’d get on the open market is 6x$6.5M and that assumes there’s a bidding war at $6M and one team gets desperate

Rempe in the lineup tonight. Hopefully he helps expose how utterly cowardly a game Sullivan coaches and pushes the team closer to letting him go.

The Pens pay the career loser Erik Karlson 10 million. Petterson is worth more to a team looking to compete for a cup than Karlson.

I wouldn't use Graves as the going rate. He got second pair money. Pettersson is a top pair guy and has the analytics to back it up.

Season opening day....dead as a doornail around here...

What do you want to discuss? I'm excited to see how we look in an actual game.

Third line, Gryz, and Jarry are who I am most interested to watch. I'd probably put McGroarty, Gryz, and Jarry as three of the biggest keys to the season. Also need bounce backs from Karlsson and Rackell.

GMs never cease to amaze me with their stupid moves, so I wouldn't ever be confident capping anything.

Smith is going to look great tonight, no question. He's in a contract year, rested, motivated, etc. I expect if he can stay healthy he'll light it up for the first month or two ... the question is whether he can keep that up or if he's cooked.

Brunicke's emergence has to put an EK trade on the table before next season. We could retain a lot to get max return given how cheap St.I + Brunicke are on the right side.

Looking forward to seeing how the bottom 6 looks tonight. There's definitely more energy and skill there than in recent years.

Earlier in preseason you had mentioned concern with Gry's game. I didn't see a lot of the preseason but from what I did see he looked OK?

Who would be your second pair guy? I'd think you'd want to shelter Brunicke to start so St. Ivany? Maybe, see how this year goes.
