I dont think there is any change JT signs somewhere else other then the Leafs. The Leafs shouldnt even consider 5M. Id imagine 3.75M-4.5m range

3x3 and a front office job when he retires. He takes that

That would be ideal. I think he takes a significant paycut to stay IMO.

I wanted Bennett so badly when he was basically kicked out of Calgary by idiot Sutter.

Me too. He's definitely a Leafy pj's/bedsheets guy.

Oh I was kidding, he’s just the type of player that knows if Toronto wins this year, but not next year, somehow “the next 57 years has begun” will happen amongst the media and fanbase.

Using Evolving Hockey’s contract projections, John Tavares is predicted to sign a 3 year deal at $7.14M AAV based on the current salary cap structure.

There is no chance the Leafs sign him for anywhere close to that number. I think in the 4 range x 4

He can get 7+ on the open market ...probably in some poopsville location but he can't in Toronto.

And counter point ..RoR signed in Nashville at age 32 for 4x4.5M. JT is closer to RoR than he is to Stamkos.

Here's how I'd handle it ..."John, I have $16M to sign you and Mitch. Go talk to Mitch and both of you let me know how divide that pie".

Good plan as long as you don’t go to Mitch and ask the same thing.

The Leafs have to deal with JT the way Tampa dealt with Stamkos. Have your number and don't pay a dollar more.

I mean there's a handful of places I think will want his leadership qualities like Giroux in Ottawa, except Giroux went home and JT is already home.

A loser team like Chicago or SJ may pay him 7 x 3/4 for it since they don't give a poop about the cap for the moment.

Cap hit is good, but still seems light in overall dollars. Maybe make it 4 x 6 years, with the last two possibly being LTIR and the management trainee program.
