A crap team like Calgary with 12 goals in two games, who would have predicted that?
- jd250

Are they really a crap team?

They still have two top-pair quality Dmen, a pretty good top-line, a few nifty kids, and now Huberdeau suddenly looks like he has a pulse. If their goaltending is as decent as it was tonight they should be far from a doormat.

Good game… flyers dominated. 40 shots on goal and 88 shot attempts!!!! I’m shocked they lost this game. So glad the stats show the facts of the game that the eyes don’t see

Flyers didn’t play all that badly for second of a b2b. They outplayed them in stretches but they couldn’t bury it and Calgary's tender played very well. They’re not a doormat but we could still have won that. Even though huberdeau had 4 pts I don’t back on him being the guy when the chips are down. Boy did Florida fleece them on that trade. Yikes.

Let’s pray this is a wake up call for management to stop extending depth players like Laughton and Poehling . You can get a bargain player to do their job every year.

After some reflection I would like to see Michov play with Foerster. Michkov is a great playmaker but he hamstrung by players that cannot finish. I love TK but he is not the best finisher. I think Foerster has the best chance with his shot to finish plays off. I would say Tippet but that guy couldn't hit the ocean consistently. Not sure who the center on that line should be yet. Maybe Frost but Frost has got to shoot more when he is in prime shooting areas. Still looks to pass at the wrong times. Couts is just too slow. Poehling and Cates not good enough. Luchanko will probably by in the minors soon. The Flyers are hurting badly at center, a a foundational position for a building team.

Supposedly but somebody forgot to tell all their good players.

They all have movement clauses so maybe not.

Laughton and Poehling look god awful. Also something really off with Couturier and if that is the case the tank could be inadvertently on.

The Couturier contract is not going to age well for sure. Not to blame him for taking the stability. It looks like he lost a step and he wasn’t a fast skater to begin with.

Just curious : https://www.naturalstattr...5&game=20035&view=limited

What are the numbers on this website telling you beyond the number of shot attempts?

This has nothing to do with MJL but analytics are to easily discounted by many because of surface stats and "the eye/gut test".

An obvious example that get's overused is TDA among others. His first run with CAR looked great on the surface, but any digging whatsoever, revealed it was mirage and would've warned off anybody intelligent of making that trade and signing that contract. Same with Risto, etc.

Surface stats may excite the fans but it's no way to run a team in 2024.

- the ivan tracking the puck is not a strong point. especially when at his feet. angles not all that great. still early though some red flags. size makes up for some stuff. give him a dozen games see what happens.

- tippet not high hockey sense player. lots of low % shots. not very visible so far.

- ex selke may be in for a long year. see how this unfolds going forward.

- brink looks solid. like his play.

- zamula seems like he is just there. not seeing much if any upside.

- RR solid in a 3rd pair role. leave him there.

- flyers centers are just not good. Cates/Laughton better off on the wing. how a stud coach like torts can't see this is odd. This is why I think the jett stays.

- to the surprise of no one flyers clearly missed the boat in selling high on laughton.

Not very impressed with Fedotov. Flyers played well enough to win this game. Got to keep playing him. Ersson was unplayable last season to start as well. 1st 2 games were awful. Id give Feds maybe a month or two. If we dont see improvements, brink up Kolosov
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Yea, it's probably going to be at least month before there's enough data to make informed decisions but DB's desperation play to make the playoffs last year does not look like it's going to pay off, so far.

To be more accurate, it hasn't aged well period and it should be expected to be one of the worst contracts in NHL history behind Bryzgalov. They have gotten 0 good years out of that contract and we are in year 3. The front-end years were supposed to offset the overpay in the later years but Chuck, who is still employed in the NHL, once again gave away the farm to the player giving him everything it was possible for him to give. Any player would accept what Fletcher offered him contractually, no question.

I never expected his game to age well once he lost a step as he got older and the punishment to his body added up but i never imagined his current fall from grace. Hopefully, over the next couple of weeks he improves his play.

One could also make the case that they are hurting on D as well, a foundational position. A true #1 would make the difference on that defense and nobody on that team looks like they will be true #1.

Might as well name him captain and pair him with a coach he doesn’t get along with.

Poehling and Laughton easy layups to deal/not resign as a GM. Briere really not doing much of anything to put his imprint on the team.

I like Hathaway and Cates. That should be more than enough fringe 4th liners/glue guys but Flyers gonna Flyer.

The whole Centers are not good is on the mark…if they had a couple above average guys down the middle you have to wonder how much more guys like Tippet, Foerster, Farabee, Konecny, Brink and now Michkov would flourish or develop that much more? It really is the glaring hole …all the other positions have some promise….beyond Luchanko? What’s down the middle?

He and Jonesy are a social media plague, unlike Fletcher, so in one way they have put their imprint on the team. DB still looks like a teenager to me, maybe it's just getting older that makes me think that.

Can you imagine Fletcher playing valet to a player at the airport? I know Torts wouldn't lower himself to do that. It's been a relentless PR campaign.

nothing down the middle is a big problem. how they address that who knows.

drafting will take years (unless they get lucky), and they have shown they will not go that route. even the jett who knows where he slots in 3/4 years.

surely logic says those guys would probably produce a little better with better centers.
