I’m assuming if you set up home stream you pay for certain things associated with that? Out of curiosity do you pay for apps like mentioned above to run on your home stream server? Also what’s the cost to have home stream server?

Currently I have an enterprise server in my breaker room for work, my media server I just bumped up to 300 TB and a little baby server for backups.

Currently I am watching a stream on an application I wrote. I pop in the url and cast it to specific device over LAN. Best guess I probably spent close to 30K on the current hardware I am using.

Update:

Only service I pay for is ESPN+....everything else I get content free.

I just don't like Amazon devices, they are good for newcomers, especially the Fire pads, but the hardware is garbage. If you have a media device for a television you must use a Shield. There is no better.

Oh I agree shield is up there. Cost is getting high tho. You definitely pay for the hardware etc but is game and such well worth it.

I'm also a software engineer so paying for the toys is not a problem, especially when it can be written off.

It's not like I need to find ways to get content or live tv, I just want things to be simple when they should be.

My son built up some his computers with extra this and that about 2-3k in and every once and awhile I’d turn router off lol just to get him out of his room

This past weekend I did a comparison of my media server to Netflix because the wife wanted to get it for the kids....I showed her I have everything Netflix does plus Prime, Apple TV, Disney+ and it auto downloads without me wasting time downloading torrents.

It's my lifeblood.

You should sell service. Servers strong enough to support it. lol. I just use real debrid with Stremio app to deal with torrents for shows/movies. Only cost 3/$4 month to avoid the headache or cost of equipment. But no work stuff needed. Purely for tv viewing only.
