Hart was a mediocre NHL goalie and losing him was a blessing in disguise. It saved the Flyers from the inevitable extension they were going to offer him.

See, here you are resorting to personal attacks. When do I ever do that to you? My point here is your argument that you can present statistical evidence that shows Couts is not behind the play is complete nonsense. Anyone watching the games with even a half-witted sense of how hockey is played can see Couts is struggling. I don't need stats to tell me this or reaffirm it.

Dont even waste your breath, he doesn't understand what he is watching, it's apparent he has lack of knowledge of the game of hockey, and what makes is so funny is he thinks he is intelligent 🤣

early in the season yet. but looking through....we have a couple skaters that are below the league average.

I do see some decent talent on the wings….like a lot of the pundits suggested at the start of the year, a guy like Drysdale will need to take a major step….and yes the goaltending will have to be solid. I really think it’s still early…but they have sputtered a bit to start.
To be fair that’s a brutal way to have to start a season on the west coast and turn around and play after a full day of travel across three time zones the next night. I’m still wondering what this year will bring…I’m watching the same games as you.

- landros 2

enough with the travel and time zone stuff. this is exactly what the flyers are selling, and many are buying it. just to deflect from the real issues.

I think there will be a lot of 5-4 games cause they should be able to score. The problem will be keeping the puck out of their net. I agree about the schedule. That's a brutal travel schedule to start the season and pretty stupid circumstances to have your home opener.

He was what he was. So would you rather have Fedotov or Hart?
- Phillywhiteout

Not even an argument that Hart/Ersson is better than Ersson/Fedotov.

He's struggling less than about 10 other forwards. You eye test is the same eye test that told you Risto was the Flyers best dman. On Saturday he got less ice time than Johnson.
- Feanor

Now I don't think risto is as bad as most feel, and I wouldn't have traded for him and give him his extension, but eye test is a real thing.

You can tell if a player, [especially by the coaches eyes ] if the player just doesn't have it that night for whatever reason or if they dragging or simply lost a step do 2 age

the pedestal that Seeler is now put upon is simply amazing. with or without seeler this defense is not very good.

they ran the same team back less a few players. this is what was the more likely result. maybe not this bad but not good enough.

since they are too dumb to put themselves in a spot to get a top pick, you have to hope the backdoor into it by their incompetence. otherwise, another middle of the road at best year and another year further away from "contending"

- hello it's me 2050
I don't think Seeler is that good, but he was a good pairing with Walker for whatever reason.

I hope you're right, but I would be surprised if that's the case. Hart was a good established NHL goalie and a good tandem with Ersson. Now you have Ersson and Fedotov (AHL goalie in my opinion). You have lost Walker and Seeler (for the time being) and Erik Johnson is playing. Woof!! The other thing that made me pick the Flyers last in the Metro was the fact that all the other teams got better with the exception of the Jackets.
- Phillywhiteout

Completely agree. With no competent backup, we'll have to play Ers like crazy. By the time we get to the stretch drive, he'll likely be gassed. We started strong and the tandem of hart and ers was providing good goaltending. This year, we've started poorly and I don't expect things to improve. Although Walker wasn't some all star, he was a competent presence on D and when we traded him, we started getting caved in. Still was the right move to trade him but this team is en route to a terrible season IMO. Simply put, it doesn't appear that they have the ability to score more than 3 goals in a game...

15 former 1st rd picks on the roster........
- hello it's me 2050

I was more addressing this season specifically. They will not get much better this season with the roster as currently constructed.

Yeah, they did make a solid pair. Walker wasn't spectacular, but he was better than i thought he'd be and allowed d to slot better. Walker seemed to be strong and getting us out of our zone with a good first pass or a clear. We struggle mightily with that now..

You don't believe in stats, remember?

Now tell me how that proves that Couturier is having trouble keeping up with the pace of play?

Okay, then who would you rather have as your backup? Ersson or Fedotov? For the record, I think Hart would have been fine behind a better team. When they played well in 2019-20 he played well and he also played well in the playoffs that year.

Article made sense until he made an argument for having nd in the lineup
- corduroy

The article points out quite well that Torts and the Flyers are the kings of do as I say, not as I do. Don't believe what your eyes see, just believe what we tell you.

The fan base will continue to hang from Tort's sack because he says all kinds of neat things like "culture" (which is losing) and "standard" (which is ever changing and seemingly depends on whatever Torts decides that day).

We have all heard the saying, "work smart, not hard". I would prefer "work smart AND hard". This team is forced to work hard because they are stupid. Other teams work hard, other teams have a standard. I'm tired of the Flyers acting like it is their birthright to have culture and a standard. Every good team has a culture and a standard, they also have talent. The Flyers can't seem to understand this in the long term as they continually put themselves in the position to have to settle for lesser talent out of stubbornness or greed. And it seems their plan is to buy their way out of it......again.

I’m not making much of it all to be honest….now if he healthy scratched him or keeps wanting to run Poehling out ahead of him I might start to have a stronger opinion.
- landros 2

To be honest, I didn't like Couts on the 4th line wing. 4th line at all for that matter. Its despectful IMO. He's declined but he hasn't declined that much. To me, Couts at 3C is perfect at this point, at least until he shows improvement as the season goes along. Of course that leaves a big hole at 1C. Cates will not be the answer there and Luchanko should be sent down soon, so not sure what the Flyers will do. The Flyers may need to make a trade sooner rather than later, and until then keep Luchanko up and burn the first year of his ELC. This year is going to suck for this team unless they are able to address the center position.

My position is that I want Ersson as the starter and developing him as an NHL goalie. The Flyers would've re-signed Hart in my opinion to a contract that would not been worth it and essentially either blocked Ersson or Ersson would've taken over and we would've had an expensive back up. I think we should give Fedetov some more time and see what happens.
