The Flyers don't need to make a trade

your opinion is noted cliff. How is dad? he workng?

why don't they? isn't the goal to improve the team? If they can do that then you explore a trade no?

now not talking for over the hill older vets. players who help now and in the future.

Fedetov is a back up, Hart was not. I'm glad we don't have Hart.
- MJL

Huh? How did the team do once Hart left last season? Hart was the only reason this team had a season. You continually underrate just how good Carter Hart is. Granted based on what he allegedly did I'm glad he is not playing hockey right now, but the evidence is clear that Hart was the reason the Flyers were even in it last season. Ersson looks like he will be a good starter, as long as the Flyers can provide him a servicable backup.

With that being said, I think the Fedotov evaluation has really crossed the line. In the Calgary game there was really only 1 goal that he should have stopped. The Kraken game was ugly, no doubt about that. But I think we need to give Fedotov this season and about 15-20 starts before we can fairly evaluate him.

Completely agree. With no competent backup, we'll have to play Ers like crazy. By the time we get to the stretch drive, he'll likely be gassed. We started strong and the tandem of hart and ers was providing good goaltending. This year, we've started poorly and I don't expect things to improve. Although Walker wasn't some all star, he was a competent presence on D and when we traded him, we started getting caved in. Still was the right move to trade him but this team is en route to a terrible season IMO. Simply put, it doesn't appear that they have the ability to score more than 3 goals in a game...
- Hextall271

why would he be gassed? another narrative not buying. no reason he can't play60-62 games.

Ok, then what do the Flyers do to address the obvious hole they have at center?

To be honest, I didn't like Couts on the 4th line wing. 4th line at all for that matter. Its despectful IMO. He's declined but he hasn't declined that much. To me, Couts at 3C is perfect at this point, at least until he shows improvement as the season goes along. Of course that leaves a big hole at 1C. Cates will not be the answer there and Luchanko should be sent down soon, so not sure what the Flyers will do. The Flyers may need to make a trade sooner rather than later, and until then keep Luchanko up and burn the first year of his ELC. This year is going to suck for this team unless they are able to address the center position.

praying they do that.

I don't underrate Hart at all. I look at his performance based on the facts and not on the emotion and homerism that you do. He was an average at best goaltender last season. His play was nothing special and it's actually a good thing that he is no longer here and that the unfortunate circumstances for him, helped the Flyers avoid an inevitable mistake.

Wait for the draft and hopefully draft a center. Send Luchanko down to juniors and let him develop there.

Why would he not be gassed? Playing in front of a weak team that gives up multiple grade a opportunities a night and routinely fails to clear the zone. You want him playing 62 games a year? wow that's a lot.

Why did his play fall off a cliff in the second half last year when they had him playing every game? He just forgot how to play? He was clearly worn down.

Dont even waste your breath, he doesn't understand what he is watching, it's apparent he has lack of knowledge of the game of hockey, and what makes is so funny is he thinks he is intelligent 🤣

with all the perks players have today he should be able to handle it. better training, better nutrition, better everything. maybe get ion better shape to not wear down is possible.

goalie in the past had no issue doing it.

now with Sam, he has showed he may not be able to handle that kind of load. find out to be sure. this is a rebuilding year right?

Play the season out and hope to be in the top 5 of the draft. 2025 and 2026 could have some top centers/wingers available and the Flyers need to be there to get one.

2025: Hagens, Ryabkin, Frondell, Martone(winger) McQueen, Misa(C,Lw),
2026: McKenna, Viggo Bjork, Ryan Roobroeck, Ivar Stennberg, Joe Igina

There is no need to make a trade unless it is moving out a vet, money and term.

Now I have no idea what Seattle is thinking. I would inquire to see if Wright is available.

Oilers are all in. To me Savoie will def be available. Part of a bigger deal to me would be to trade them Sanheim. He would be a great fit for them.

Those are the types of players I would be interested in off the top of my head.

How many goalies play 60+ games in the current NHL? Only three last year.

Ersson started 49 last year. 55 is probably a good number for him this year. More than that is too much for him at this stage in my opinion. You definitely need to build towards 60+ starts. I do not want my goalie playing that much in the regular season.

Wrt, hart I certainly don’t believe we’re better off without him. What I will note is that while stats are important, they are a tool and not the end all and be all. It’s still a game played by humans. Intangibles are important and there are important aspects which are not covered in the stat line. To over-rely on numbers means you miss the full picture.

People who’ve played the game know that the goaltending and team Defense dynamic is symbiotic. If a tender doesn’t trust his d, then he cheats or doesn’t confidently step out on the shot. When that happens, they get beat. Then the d doesn’t trust the g and feels they can’t let any shots get through. They get out of position from trying to block shots and also don’t pinch when they should because they feel they can’t get a save from the tender. The opposite is true when each are confident in one another. None of these aspects are tracked in stats.

For the last few years, hart has played in front of a bad team d which allowed many grade an opportunities on a routine basis. This was clear in every game I watched. On a better team, I truly believe he’d be a very good tender. He seemed to start seasons strong that tail off. Not sure if it was confidence or not but also a trend I noticed.

As well, I consider that he must have known for months of not years that he was under investigation. This may have weighed on him and affected play. Again. A human dynamic that is not tracked in stats.

goalie stats especially do not tell the full story. to just look at the raw # like GAA and save % gives you an incomplete picture.

Correct. But I don't want a deal where I get a vet to fill a whole. If it is like your deal, I am ok because that player can grow with the team and most likely cheap.

And might not be popular but I would entertain moving Tippett if it got me a good return.

Trade doesnt reall make sense either from a personnel stand point. Couturier is on the team no matter what. I dont think he has been 4th line bad. So Im not fond of the idea of making him a 4th liner going forward.

That means 1 of you top 3 C spots is spoken for and thats likely the 3rd C at this point. You can send Luchenko down but you cant add a longterm C or else they are blocking Luchenko who if sent down I would expect back in a year or two. That leaves Frost, if you Move frost, then you are out a #2 C. Technically you fill a harder hole to fill but you still create a new hole that one day you hope Luchenko fills.

I agree you have to just let it play out. If we suck, then we suck. If we dont we dont. Its just 5 games. What we see now is not going to be what we see all season. I still believe the team is better than we have seen. Most the losses have been winnable games. Flyers probably win in Seattle and Calgary if they got competent goaltending.

What are you talking about?

If you're claiming that I'm wrong about something, it is your responsibility to provide facts to support that. There are no instances where I state that it is your responsibility or anyone else's to prove that I'm right. People want to challenge without having the facts. I'm not going to do the work for them.

An example is when you tried to claim that Brink didn't play well last year due to being outscored by Poehling. Showing that you had zero understanding of ice time and scoring rate.

Never trade for a number 1 center, in my opinion it cost way to much, much better off drafting 1, and with 3 first rd picks and in my opinion a top 5 pick should be able to find that

Wright is a guy I was wondering if he would be available as well. Wright is somewhat blocked after the Stephenson deal so perhaps he may want to be moved. He seems like a double edge sword, his reaction to not being drafted 1st overall really wasnt a good look but that is also a reason why he may not be happy being 3rd line C behind Stephenson and Beniers for the forseeable future

We can deal in the reality and the facts or we can live in the invisible world of intangibles. Every goalie deals with poor defense and breakdowns in games. You're incorrect that those aspects are not tracked in stats. They absolutely are. There are stats for goaltenders that take that into account. You can have all the beliefs you want and I do think a team could win with Hart. Teams have won with average goaltending in the past. The reality is that Hart was nothing special as a goalie, was average at best and it is a good thing that the situation prevented the Flyers from re-signing him. It was best for the Flyers to move on and I don't think they would've of if the legal issues weren't there.

I think he's right on with his evaluation of Hart. The Flyers consistently overrate and overhype their own players. Hart was a good goalie, but not the superstar that the Flyers seemed to believe he was. They would have signed him to some ridiculous contract that would have undoubtedly backfired.
