Near the end of last season Torts benches Couturier, the newly named captain of the team. It was embarassing to Couts, and I think the team took it personally and they finished the season 2-9. This season the Flyers started the season on the road and come home with a 1-2-1 record. In their home opener, Coutsm their captain, is embarrassed once again by being delegated to 4th line wing. The team has responded with two flat, low energy losses where they have scored only 1 goal. Coincidence? Holding the 'C' in hockey still means something special to players. I am concerned the team is fed up with Torts and frankly I see their point.

hope ex selke is embarrassed and is miserable. that's what he gets for re-signing. that's what the flyers get for not trading him. 4/5 years from now will be having the same conversation about tK

he is stuck here no matter what unless a mutual termination which won't happen. or a buy out at some point.

You're nothing more than a basic troll on here. Have you skated on skates other then the double runners that you probably used. Torts has a Stanley Cup and the second most wins in the NHL for U.S. born coaches, so he probably knows a little more about the game than you do. He just goes off the rails and loses his mind, or he just gets bored. Leave it to you. Now I'm gonna go back on Torts' side just to spite your sorry never played hockey ass.

Oh, I was wrong. Torts was actually the first American born coach to win 500 games in the NHL. He is 9th on the all time win list and has won two JACK ADAMS awards!! Thanks again!

https://records.nhl.com/r...ns/coach-most-wins-career

I would like to point out that Torts may be 9th on the all-time win list but he is 4th on the all-time loss list despite coaching 200-300 less games than those above him. Anybody who coaches for as long as Torts has will be on that list. He's coached the 8th most games in league history and is 9th on the list, not quite as impressive once you put it in context.

You have to be careful with those longevity stats, sometimes they are just the product of staying employed. As Chuck proves, you don't have to be great to keep getting jobs in the NHL.

As much as Torts spars with the media he's always a good story and the media loves him for it. Hell last night as we were complaining about Torts roster decisions and endless lineups, PK Subban and the rest of the intermission crew were making him sound like Scottie Bowman.

Now we are on to WAS.

There were $21 tickets on stubhub. An empty arena might be the only thing to motivate Comcast.

on a side note i was debating whether or not to lay the wood and bet the leafs. wasn't sure if they have a letdown game after tampa. smart move. then lost on la tech!!!

still think they will finish bottom 2 with the flyers. their D isnt bad when healthy.

- hello it's me 2050

Yikes. I was surprised the Leafs lost that TBH. If the Flyers keep this up they'll be bottom two in the league.. Read Sam's comments after, he's saying he needs to be better and make those stops on the SH goals... ok.. that'd be nice for sure, but maybe the team could a. not give up SH breakaways, b. score more than 1 or 0 goals for him..

It's very possible and I have thought the same. It was a stupid move IMO.. like he wanted to play mind games, have the players hate him and be motivated to play better to spite him.. I've heard Keenan used to do the same thing. The act gets old fast.

Will you listen to yourself? There are pages and pages of nothing but attacking posts between you and phillywhiteout, pages! You attack everyone on this forum that does not agree with you, or worse attacks your precious Frost or any player Hextall drafted. It's blatantly obvious. Everyone knows it. You keep embarrassing yourself, its sad. I post occasionally and each post is about hockey; I don't attack anyone.

You can blame Coots for his play but you can't blame him for reupping with the Flyers. Chuck gave him everything in contract negotiations - term, money, NMC, roster bonuses instead of salary. There is not one thing that a player or agent could ask for that Chuck didn't give him. That's Chuck's superpower, to be a total idiot on trades and contracts but Bobby Clarke loves him anyway because he'll even ask permission to go to the bathroom.

The current situation is horrible but the original mistake was the Flyers and the "Action for Bias".

not on the goalie though he does need to stop one to make a diff. that separates the good from the real good.

anyway, his team has so many holes in the lineup and organization. there is no help on the way. it will take years to turn this around if they do it the normal way. even longer the flyers way. dumb unneeded contracts. refusal to trade nothing special players. you would be hard pressed to come up with one good thing about this organization and how it is run.

they need to hit 2 home runs and 2 doubles with the 6 picks they have in the 25 draft.

never seen a team struggle so bad to get the puck out of the zone. they are at least hard to play against....

For myself I find this team very unlikable. This team is full of blah players who don’t move the needle much. MM is a rookie so I’ll give him a pass.
JL should be sent down.
TK is about the only extrovert on the team and imo should have been traded.
I see zero vision with the way this team is assembled.
Torterella is a clown and doesn’t know what to do with the players he has. I come to this conclusion by how he handles the lineup and constantly changes the line combinations.
One would think you would put lines together where they complement each others strengths.
Then stick with those lines for a few games.
DB doesn’t get off without criticism. He is the GM he is responsible for putting together a team not a roster of players.
These guys can say all day long the locker room is great.
Well locker room joy doesn’t not necessarily translate to being a winning team.
I will root for a couple of players such as MM, Ersson, York JL while he is here, Frost. The rest I am more or less neutral on.

100%. Because there is no plan at all. It is a fly by night approach. Week to week. Day to day. Then lest figure it out.

I have no doubt that the players see Coots mistreated and are pissed.

However... I doubt that they are dragging ass on purpose. Too many guys have something to play for, are fighting for their NHL lives, are playing for their next contract, etc. There are just too many personal motivations. The captain is but one.

Agreed. The team certainly didn't like it but it's not the main issue.
