Here's the list of all Cap Hits over $10M this season. I like Pouty more than most on the list. My only concern is that his contract is going to skew the canuck's contract structure.
1. Auston Matthews, Toronto, $13,250,000, four years, $53 million
2. Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado, $12,600,000, eight years, $100.8 million
3. Connor McDavid, Edmonton, $12,500,000, eight years, $100 million
4. Artemi Panarin, N.Y. Rangers, $11,642,857, seven years, $81.5 million
5. Elias Pettersson, Vancouver, $11,600,000, eight years, $92.8 million
6. Erik Karlsson, Pittsburgh, $11,500,000, eight years, $92 million
7. William Nylander, Toronto, $11,500,000, eight years, $92 million
8. David Pastrnak, Boston, $11,250,000, eight years, $89 million
9. Rasmus Dahlin, Buffalo, $11,000,000, eight years, $88 million
10. Drew Doughty, Los Angeles, $11,000,000, eight years, $88 million
11. John Tavares, Toronto, $11,000,000, seven years, $77 million
12. Mitch Marner, Toronto, $10,903,000, six years, $65,418,000
13. Jonathan Huberdeau, Calgary, $10,500,000, eight years, $84 million
14. Jack Eichel, Vegas, $10,000,000, eight years, $80 million
15. Aleksander Barkov, Florida, $10,000,000, eight years, $80 million
16. Sergei Bobrovsky, Florida, $10,000,000, seven years, $70 million - bloatedmosquito
Skew their cap in what way? More important to me is the percentage of the cap that a player's salary takes up, with the better players taking up on average around 13%. Petey's at 13.1% (I think?). He's right in that ballpark now and that number will reduce with a rising cap.
Most people will look at his cap hit in a single timeframe, we're six games into it and people are whining about it already because they want instant gratification...lol. I'm not a fan of people!! Barkov signed his deal for the 2022/23 season at 10 million per he was taking up 12.2% of the cap, he's now taking up 11.36% of the cap. He's missed some games but he's had 88-78-80 points in the past three years. I don't see their media or fans trying to run him out of town....strange???

I mean, let's be fair... there's a small difference playing in a Canadian market versus Florida
But overall agree. People care too much about the cap hit right now. It will go down each year as a percentage against the cap.
Sure I get it winning is the goal but you seriously can't tell me you are not concerned with Pettersson on pace for 50 points lol. Hoping Tocchet has a plan to get him going at some point. - LordHumungous
Petey is a bit of an enigma. He wears all emotions on his face. Obviously the talent there but just needs the maturity, and some health. Part of the health I think is his own doing. He gets frustrated and starts to take runs at guys and a part of you loves to see it as he's engaging and he does run some guys over ... but as strong as he is he's really not built that way and running full steam into someone he gives 40lbs away to can result in some wear and tear.
He just needs to shoot shoot shoot. No delays, no fakes just let fly and clank one off an ankle or something. Maybe not on PP, but even strength for sure.

When agents negotiate new contracts they use comparables to gauge value.
"X player scored this many goals, this many assists, and they get paid this amount of money. So my client performs at a much higher rate so they deserve more."
If Pouty is the highest paid player on the team, yet performs at a lower, less consistent level, then agents are going to use his salary as a benchmark. So Pouty needs to be the best player to keep the salary structure sensible. If you look at that Cap Hit list, most players on there are the best players on their teams.
Will Pouty be the best? Possibly. But no one can say for sure. He's such an enigma.
Just my opinion. Not stating the above as fact.

Well played game last night. Every time I've ever gone to see the Hawks play VAN, the Canucks murder them. A lot has to do with the Hawks being bad, but you'd think they'd put up a fight once in a while.
That Hughes kid is a monster. Enjoy the season! We have a few more years of slogging to get back to fun hockey.

I've noticed he takes too long to get a shot off, looking for the perfect lane. Just blast it, with one of Hoglander or Garland waiting for a juicy rebound to pounce on.
From a McIndoe article about each team's worst start to the season that didn't end up mattering...
Vancouver Canucks
Give them credit, the Canucks have a history of making sure their worst starts tend to end with their worst seasons. One notable exception was the best team in franchise history: the 2010-11 team that limped out to just two wins in their first seven games before heating up, running away with the Presidents’ Trophy and then coming within a win of a championship.
Wonder how people would react to a 2-5 team right now? lol

Why do I even bother talking to you. - bloatedmosquito
I just saw that and thought of you doing that to Booner in the political thread. And no I don't think Petey has to be the best player on his team to keep the market straight. He's the second best (forward), good nuff.

I'm really impressed by him. I thought he was a one trick pony. Turning into a great all around player. Wonder how much Miller had to do with it. - bloatedmosquito
Me as well, I wanted him gone like Vantel, but he's a different player now. Tocchet is responsible for a lot of guys becoming more, Miller is also a prime example, he's a world class player now, Toc made him accountable to himself and to the team. - Pacificgem
I was wrong about a lot of things last year, from where the team would finish, Miller overall and Petey re-signing.
I have been on the Garland love train for a long time though. He just does different creative things and always enjoyed watching him play even when the team sucked. Can’t imagine how bad that OEL trade would be if it weren’t for him.
