He has taken his sweet time, and the reason why does not matter, to the point that the top rated prospect pool has been at least partially unmasked.

Basically 5 years of wasted picks at this point! We still don't know what we have with 80% of them.

Kulich looks like a gamer. RyJo is probably our 5th best defenseman today. Helenius is doing well in his first NA action. Wahlberg, Rosen, Ostlund and Neuchev all look like NHLers. I think the issue is none have made that impact yet. That being said, I think we know that most of those names will have NHL careers, it's how those go that's the question mark. Fair?

I understand that. But why! I can’t imagine he went from a good player to a garbage player in one offseason

Even if Cozens and Quinn turn back into quality top 6 players, there's too many issues with the defense for this roster to be considered a sure fire playoff team, as was the question that was asked, especially with how thin they are with scoring talent.
- kingcong39

The defense is not a problem 5v5.

Don't think any of them are guaranteed a spot with Ruff's system. Maybe Wahlberg or Helenius

Trump, like him or hate him, is great at trolling Joe and Kamala

he goes to her back yard in California, goes to work at a McDonalds, goes to the Garden and now goes in a garbage truck

Ya, I think 36 brings quite a bit to this blog, but I am not sure what the expectations are to evaluate Prospects before they are truly ready. People going nuts about Benson being too young and playing ok in the big league. It is why the whole 2nd for Beck in the context of this year's roster falls on deaf ears for me... These guys are normally 2 years out as 1st rounders and 3 or 4 for 2nd+.
I'd like to hear what the better plan is to evaluate Prospects in the pipeline.

Are we filing the roster construction of the defense under not fixable without trades, i.e. the offseason?

Yes.

He's started 3 of 10 games. He hasn't started a game in 2 weeks. I'd say that is the opposite of consistent playtime.
- QuinnFan

He got a start each of the first 3 weeks, which was more than they needed him. If he played better, he would have gotten more. He's going to have to earn it this year.

Need a mix of Darcy and Murray in our next GM!

Whether they play here or not is still a question. I assume 2 or 3 get moved. But that's probably beside the point. I think our pipeline is pretty accurately portrayed as being strong. Having 5-6 pretty clear NHL players on the farm is a luxury most teams simply don't have.

36 is the best of us, agreed there.

And I hear ya with Beck. At some point, it's small potatoes. I just hate to see us trading assets for garbage. It's how bad teams stay bad. Isn't there something to be said about getting value for our money?

If you are building a team through the draft, which has been stated many Times. Some of your picks shouldn't be going into there D3 seasons without NHL Experience in some fashion IMO

We have that luxury because we have been bad for so long. IMO if you are trying to build through the draft, some of these prospects getting to there D3 should have been better used.

No poop, and they are totally (frank)ed if BOTH of them don't get their head out of their asses, but doesn't this reveal the much larger problem, which is an inability to truly improve the top half of the roster, both on forward and defense?

Should have Adams traded cozens as soon as he hit 30+ goals 2 years ago?

Tough business, I think we would have all extended cozens

We have No elite in our prospect pool and hope they fit what Ruff wants.

As much as there is ample evidence that Adams is not very good at the whole GM thingy, Pegula will not take him out unless there is another revolt like the one with Darcy.
He is here for a long time, and likely will pick his eventual successor.

- IonSabres

Agreed, unless the Sabres put up fewer than 85 points this season, I think Adams is safe.

Not because he deserves to be, it’s just hard replacing a gm , lots of stress on the old owner

Most of the first round and some second round draft picks are currently playing for the Sabres.

Difficult to draft a “elite” prospect outside the first round.

And yes, sure it happens

Is that fair?

Johnson- 31
Rosen- 14
Savoie- 9
Ostlund- 14
Kulich- 28
Helenius- 14

None of them are playing for Buffalo. One is sitting in the press box, atm. That's a lot of high picks.

One recent 2nd is playing for them. 6 aren't.

Painful to look at the top-10 list.

Nyalnder, Mitts, Cozens, Quinn, Savoie

Leaving off the top 2 picks, which is even more painful.
