13 years without making the playoffs
your frustration may only go 6 years, but for others it's 13 plus years - homiedclown
what does 2011 or 2014, or 2016 have to do with Kevyn Adams and companies drafting ability.
Come back to earth clown, that was 9 years prior to him being GM.
Its like Blaming the border crisis on Trump. He wasn't in office. |

Why would I look at picks from 2014.. They don't have anyone from before the 2017 draft.
The conversation was are they good at drafting. KA took over in 2020. Im not looking at drafts before he took over.
Since 2020 they've shown the ability to draft well.

The question was about drafting in general
but since you want to bring adams into this
adams did trade reinhart instead of signing him
adams did trade montour instead of signing him
adams did let ullmark leave instead of signing him
adams did go all in on cozens and traded casey
adams did bring back ruff but would not let ruff have his own staff
adams did misread this team and thought bringing in hall would make them a cup contender and instead they were the worst team in the entire nhl
adams did, with the owner, run eichel out of town
adams did sign an average goalie to a 5 year deal
adams did sign a blah d man to a 7 year deal when he only had 54 games under his belt and already showed a history of injuries
adams did use his extra cap sapce, in a buyers market, to overpay for e, johnson, jost, girgens, stillman, okposo, and eric robinson in a year where many thought the sabres would end their playoff draught
adams did run a small market franchise and never spend to the cap
adams did draft a boat load of small undersized forwards that are getting pushed around when they do make it to the nhl

"Astounded by a Team and GM who have consistently said they are building through the draft and have only a couple of players they actually drafted playing on there Team. And a bunch of others they drafted who we don't know if they even fit."
I didn't bring him up I just defended the teams drafting ability since he took over.
I've already mentioned he failed everywhere else. You replied to that very post.

Can't say I haven't enjoyed it so far. 2-0 when Dan is in the building.

Good debate here 36. It has been frustrating watch the roster building during the drought.
So, IMO that is different issues, 1) style of build, 2) lack of quality veterans added.
I'll continue to maintain that Drafting is the least of their problems. Overall, they are doing quite well, the primary issue is that the historical development timeline for prospects is just "coming on-line" as we speak.
Several 1st Rounders are already playing including:
Cozens 2019
Quinn 2020
Power 2021
Kulich 2022
Benson 2023
Savoy 2022 was traded for a much needed 3C
Ostlund and Helenius are in year 1 of adjusting to the NA game..they will need to do so.
Second Rounders
Peterka 2022 looks like a complete beast.
Johnson 2019 should be coming on-line (should be playing but Adams reneged on his pledge not to block youngsters)
Wahlberg, Strbak, Kleber are all showing promising signs. - IonSabres
The KA sell off primarily netted extra picks in 21 and 22. Those guys should be contributing this season. They've produced 1 point so far. That's a big problem and their lack of development has forced some bad moves. If this is the end of KA's run, poor drafting will be at the top of the list. His entire plan was based on it

Big Murr, and why aren't we looking at drafts before Adams. 3/4 of the team is from drafts before him. |

look at the stars in 2017
they had picks 3, 26, 39
they netted
Heiskanen
Oettinger
Robertson
then look at our draft in 21
we had picks 1, 14, 33
we get Power, Rosen, Poltapov
it's pretty clear right now Rosen and Poltapov will not have the impact like Oettinger and Robertson, but if your a small market team that is hell bent on building a roster through the draft
you gotta hit with those picks like the stars did in 17 and not get the davidsson, samuelssons, rosen, poltapov, etc |

Poltapov putting up pretty sweet #'s for a 21 year old in that league. He very well could make an impact here.

He essentially had the picks of 2 bad teams and has gotten very poor value out of them. Now he's to the point of making bad value trades to fill those gaps.

Yeah, just not sure if it was anything more than random luck and not to expect it to happen again for another 15 years. I just don't have a lot of confidence in this org scouting department based on the last ten years or so. I know different GMs and front office personnel, but results often appear similar. Can we even expect a 2nd rd pick like Peterka once every 5 years or is that to optimistic?
2014 2nd Rd, pick 31: Brendan Lemieux
2016 2nd Rd, pick 33: Rasmus Asplund
2017 2nd Rd, pick 37: Marcus Davidsson
2018 2nd Rd, pick 32: Mattias Samuelsson
2020 2nd Rd, pick 34: JJ Peterka
2021 2nd Rd, pick 33: Prokhor Poltapov - BuffaloHerd

1. he has to want to come over here
2. he has to sign a contract
3. if I had a dollar for every time I heard a sabres prospect could be a hit
I hope he signs and becomes a top 6 player on the sabres FWIW |

@LLysowski
Sabres prospect Prokhor Poltapov has signed a 2-year contract extension with CSKA Moscow, according to the team's website.
The 2021 second-round pick was eligible to sign an ELC as soon as this spring. Now he's under contract in the KHL through 2026-27.

1st Picks in Eichel and Reinhardt were in 2022.
Risto 2021.
So in 2022 Ostlund at 13 and Kulich at 28, 1 has played 2 seasons in the A and now finding his way in the NHL, while the other is in his 1st year in the A adjusting to the NA Game. Ohgren, his linemate and picked at 19 the same year has played 7 games this season and contributed 0/0/0 so far...really helping The Wild...should have stayed down for another year.
2021 is Rosen, up in the air for me as far as his NHL future...I would have expected to graduate this season...maybe later in the year.
Once again, expectations are a bit high IMO. |

This was a 5 year plan to build through the draft, what were the expectations supposed to be at this point of the plan?
How do you measure the cost of the past 4 seasons of failure compared to the development of the players drafted |
