Yea, well that makes sense. The league and most importantly the most successful teams are trending in a direction but that doesn't make it the right way. Good logic there.

What Paul Maurice 57 year of age and won, that's a far cry from 30

It brings up something else the Flyers don't do well and that's developing coaches. Does Lappariere have a future as an NHL head coach? If not and I would say no, why is he there? Because he's so successful at the AHL level? Develop some young coaches that have a future.

I would say hell no but the NHL fraternity has surprised me before. The phantoms made the playoffs last year near the bottom of their conference while 2 teams with a better record sat out, and that's a feather in his cap?

What's also concerning is that the Flyers dgaf about how the Phantoms are coached.

https://phillyhockeynow.c...ork-torts-ian-laperriere/

“I think people make a big deal out of different systems,” Tortorella said after a practice session Thursday in Voorhees. “There may be slight details (that are different). You may have different philosophies, a man-on-man defense versus a zone defense. But it isn’t a huge change.”

Tortorella said he wants Laperriere to have his own system, and to have it reflect his philosophy, not the Flyers’.

Which is extremely hilarious on how much Drysdale has struggled to adjust after playing his entire career in a man-on-man system.

Tortorella is the NHL's final current coach born before 1960. It's not just the players who are getting younger and younger. Unless some team hires Quenneville (won't be here, maybe a contender on the brink of a Cup) or Bruce Boudreau (I think he's done with NHL coaching), I think however long Tortorella's head coaching tenure lasts in Philly will be how long we see a head coach age 64 or older behind the bench. The youngest NHL coach at present is a full 30 years younger than Tortorella. That's where the league is moving.

You say something that really doesn't hold water, last what 5 to 10 cup winning coaches are mid 50s to late 50s

So how is going treading to 30 year old coaches the better direction

I'll humor you for a second against my better judgement. Please show me where I said that the NHL is trending to 30 year old coaches?

The organ I zation needs to get its "Ducks" in row. This statement after talking ad nauseum about Drysdale's learning curve because he was playing man to man in Anaheim and now the switch the zone for the Flyers. They talk out both sides of their mouths about so many different things.

Penguins looking good. Just need that magical 3rd or 4th liner to turn things around.

Luckily, the team has vets like Deslauriers to play to get the team out of this tailspin and show a younger players like Brink and Luchanko how it is done. For me, it is such an absurd premise. The vets have absolutely won nothing at the NHL level. Talent is what stops losing streaks. Now I want Jett sent down. I expect 2 more game checks for him and he will be sent down. Making an opening night roster, play against McDavid, and 9 games checks is quite an accomplishment for Jett- great job. Some teams plan a path to a top 5 pick, or teams like the Flyers thru sheer incompetence (to be fair Hart situation has not helped) find their way into the top 5 of the lottery.

Wel, if that is where the NHL is moving then turn 180 degrees and you will see which way the Flyers are moving

To be fair, Craig Berube is doing well for himself. I personally didn’t like Berube here but he’s having no issue finding work. John Stevens seemed to only one bite at the apple as head coach but has made a pretty good living as an assistant.

Rumor is, Jones and Briere had enough and double teamed Torts. Torts was screaming “not the face” the entire time.

I agree but this is the Flyers were talking about. They don't go where the league is moving. They stay in the same old tired spot.

He could've played how many games in juniors by now? Another player situation poorly handled by the Flyers.

The comment that Bill Meltzer made did not even say that the league was trending towards 30 year old coaches. Now back to the status quo.

Good. They finally made a rational decision. Now lets see if they put Andrae in the lineup for York, or if the play Johnson, who isn't blocking any of the kids.
