In two years, the cap will theoretically be about $8M higher. I really don't see Jones contract being an issue at any point. - Chunk
May not be an issue, but still overpaid. Good game by the Hawks, the Avs are a good team, they’ll be much better when they get some of those injured players back, but they need another good dman to go far. [/img] |

Decent game on the road, pretty solid effort. I liked Jason Richardinson 1 vs 3 in the corner to get the puck to Donato. Late in the game too noticed Jones playing pretty well in the corners vs MacKinnon. Won a few battles and pucks off him. Also seems like the last few games Hall is skating faster and faster. I think just getting his mid season legs after that injury last year. |

Have to find a way to bottle this effort. They played the right way for the talent they have. Very impressive win, on to California, would be nice to see them win 2/3 there. |

Plus/Minus can be a skewed stat, but Vlasic was a +3 tonight, and that confirms the eye test. McCabe signed a new deal with the Leafs, similar AAV to Vlasic’s. |

Through 10 games vs. last year. Almost the same record, 1 less Goal Against, 3 more Goals for. One less road game this year so far.
YEAR---W-L-OL----GF-GFPG----GA-GAPG
2023---4-6-0 ---- 24-2.40 ----34-3.40
2024---3-6-1 ---- 27-2.70 ----33-3.30
Last year mostly healthy through first 10 games, then injuries started with Taylor Hall ACL. Expecting improvement this year after they finish the two long west coast road trips. |

Woke up to see a nice 5-2 win!
Figured 98 would have had a goal and an assist or two goals or two assists. Then I see the box score and see he was held off the scoresheet.
Only 2 sog as well. Would like to see if he puts together a nice point streak here the next 4 games against mid opponents.
Good to see Kurashev put one away, and Ze German had one bounce in off his hand/knee/ass or whatever.
How did Kaiser and Allan look? Did they have any Brodie mistakes or were they mostly competent? |

Best game I've seen Vlasic play, he was pretty solid last year, but last night, Id say he was the best guy on the ice for the Hocks |

Brodie and Allan were on the ice for the Avs first goal. Not sure if that was on Brodie or one of the fwds getting back.
Kaiser had a penalty that I thought was a bit iffy, and a couple of hectic moments. Other than being on the ice for the Avs first goal I thought Allan played pretty well...blocked a few shots.
The Avs had the better of the 2nd period but nothing to show for it and I thought the Hawks played a pretty decent third. Good game overall.
Reichel continues to merit ice time and it was good to see him get rewarded for going to the net after winning a face-off.
Thought Kurashev had a pretty good game too. |

Brodie again was at the bottom of the GameStat chart. Seems to be a permanent position

I will cede my Brodie rant to Ben Pope:
It is an adventure whenever Brodie is out there for a DZ shift right now. Blackhawks hanging on for dear life, up 3-2 with 4:30 left...
Vlasic was a stud. Richardinson properly used was great. Donato is going to be a nice deadline acquisition for someone. |

He diffused a ton of plays and got the puck out of harms way a number of times. His assist on Kurashev's pp goal was really nice.
Definitely played a great game and was doing the little things right. |

I missed the first 2 periods, just wondering is that the first unit PP or the 2nd? If it's the first unit PP that's great hope they continue to let him be the first unit PP guy. |

Second unit. - LAHawk
Saw them on the ice and figured PP would be 0 for 2 to start the game. Think on that play Vlasic shot and the puck came back to him so he carried around the net and found a wide open Kurashev creeping in from the point.

With a massive net front presence that seems to be lacking somewhat on PP1 lately.

Do you try Maroon or Smith there? Smith was in front on Kurashev’s goal. Maybe not ideal but it’s what you’ve got.
Doesn’t always have to be a big guy. Andrew Shaw was pretty effective in front of the net and Disco Dino in his day. |

Vlasic was the best player on the ice last night, for both teams. Makar is from another planet, but for one game, Vlasic was more noticeable, he basically shut down the Avs for about half the game. Allan only played ~13 minutes, but he held his own, that first goal was on Brodie’s side. That was one of Murphy’s best game as a Hawk, I believe that he was paired with Vlasic for quite a bit, coincidence? |

Thought so too. That hit he had on O'Connor or whatever that Av's player's name is was solid and I thought that INT call on him was a hometown call. Granted the puck had slid forward but he pulled up and Rantanen was going down on his own. |

IMO the offense will go as Bedard does. He gets all the sheltered Ozone starts, a load of L1 minutes, the PP runs thru him. (the PP is stagnant IMO, Bedard just taking passes at the dot and then trying to create while basically stationary. I'd like to see the kid interchanging, skating to the top of the set up and move, create or shoot as opposed to him limiting himself to 1/2 or 1/4 of the ice on the flank).
They need him to score goals specifically and IMO that's coming. Kid looks different this yr. His stride has purpose, he's stronger on pucks, is getting to the center of the ice often, engages for pucks more often, in general showing more poise than last yr. We're watching the kid mature.
And for guys like me that like to focus on his off the puck and defensive play his xGA speaks for itself at a very good 54% while his Ozone starts are less than I thought at "only" 59% which is lower than a fair bit of the offensive guys in the league.
Kid has the look. Like to see him much more mobile on the PP and I think that'll boost his goals scored. Along with his maturing as he goes as a 19 yr old he should start popping some goals.
By the way I don't see the value in dropping Foligno from L1 with Bedard and TT. The time tested 3some of a guy who wins the puck and gets it to the dish man (Foligno) TT feeds Bedard and he scores the goals. ... The 3somes fancies are excellent at an xGF of 54%. I'd leave them be. - Mr Ricochet
That top line looked worse without Foligno. But the top line on Colorado is also very very very good. |
