Well...this was wrote before he got an apple, his first point, last night. Seems his attitude is great and they are overall pleased so far. Coach even says "He’s been great. I think we probably didn’t put him in the best position to succeed last week, just kind of threw him in."...that quote is for you Tojo hahaha

I agree with a lot of you. I think we should blow it up early and ship off some players. I read Madden's latest rant. He talks about rewarding the players in WBS and calling them up. Then talks about scratching the players who don't contribute. I think that has to be the approach. Fenway isn't going to let us fire Sullivan. So they may as well just tank and see what the younger players can do. |

None of the players, in only the first month of the season, have given up on the season yet. Same goes for coaching staff, most of which are ex-players, and most likely Dubas as well. Also, with regards to the first month, its so early in a season there arent usually many trades going on.
EDIT: at the time of posting this I didnt realize there were a few trades (Maatta to Utah, Lilgeren to Sharks) in past 24 hours hahah still though, I dont think its a good time of year to blow it up. |

So far this season, the team has been horrific 5v5. They're bottom of the league in 5v5 GA's (35), -12 goal differential & give up 3.86 5v5 GA p/60. The team SV% at 5v5 is meager 88.8% across 3 different netminders. There are only 2 players (Rackell & Malkin) with positive goal differential during 5v5 minutes. Eller is neutral; the rest of the team is in the red. The team design, style of play, utilization, OTHER, is not working. Malkin w/ Crosby's line will not move the needle (long term) imo. Is this a self-correcting problem? Will Sullyvan implement any real change? If this trend continues, top 5 lottery will not be out of reach. |

To me, at this point in time with my beloved Penguins, after 30+ years as a fan and all the successes I've seen to fall back on, if the possibilities are correcting it, and playing better, or a top 5 pick its a win-win situation hahaha

I don't see our issues correcting themselves to be honest. Do I think the players gave up? No. Do I think they will make trades early? Probably not. Sullivan needs to be fired. This team needs a coaching change and has for quite sometime. The ownership will not allow him to be fired. We keep doing the same thing over and over again and thinking it will work coaching wise. This strategy is not working for these players.
The only two paths they have is to shake things up or keep everything the same and fight for the top pick. |

Curious to see if Sullyvan goes full blown Michel Thierren on them in attempt to make a pivot and remain relevant, or if they continue as-is until the plug is eventually pulled.
With each passing game....

I actually like those lines. I do think Dubas missed greatly this offseason in not signing a #2 center because this 2nd line should be the 3rd line. |

The team only has three top six players right now with Rusty out. Maybe four if Bunting can get going. So play them all together or split them up, either way they're lacking. |

I think this is the biggest problem the lack of top 6 talent. I am hoping Dubas finally gets it and this offseason it gets fixed.

He took on bad contracts for picks this year, so I don't think he doesn't realize they have a huge hole in the top-6, he just wasn't really trying to put together a winning team this year. (Whether he can when he wants to remains to be seen, but this year was punted to get picks.) |

This was 3 years overdue, I just didn’t think they’d be this awful…Might as well tank again in 26 for McKenna then have Sid convince McJesus at the Olympics to come to the pens. Then boom. |

I definitely agree that he went for draft picks and punted on the season. I feel this was one of the better off-seasons to get a 2nd line center without breaking the bank.
Maybe he signs Bennett or gets someone else who could be in that role this offseason. Adding some top 6 players this offseason and having a top 5 pick who could contribute right away might be our best case scenario. I also agree it remains to be seen if Dubas could pull it off.
If Dubas can hit on a few draft picks next year (hoping we get a 2nd round pick for Pettersson and an additional one for Eller). Maybe Jarry can string a few solid starts together and gets us a 3rd. Karlsson I could see shopped in the offseason or TDL and maybe gets us a pick at the draft. Maybe best case scenario we have 7-8 draft picks in the top 3 rounds and 2-4 of the picks make a case for themselves like Brunicke did this season it would definitely set us up very well going into next year (again assuming we add top six talent via free agency). |

Lacking top six talent
Defense is absolute garbage
Big money goalie is giving up leaky goals in the AHL
Coach is running a speed based system with one of the oldest teams in the league
A lot of the reliable core players are off to terrible starts
Take your pick which is the biggest problem lol |

Easily the coach. You can't fix any of those other things easily.
You can however say... "guys, this won't work. We're going to make some changes". That can be done over night. |

They've morphed into last year's team tonight. A lot of shots and zone time, few goals, passing too much on the PP, etc ... but a lot better than they've looked recently. |

First game where I felt EK and Sid looked like they had their legs going. Ned making several big saves. |
