One good thing about not being able to watch the 'Hawks on tv: I do not have to see them lose.
But now, given the newspaper business is dead and gone, I have to search to even find the line score.

Again, zero points by bedard against the worst team in the nhl, arguably.

Go rip on a 19 year old on another blog. Haven’t seen you say one positive thing about him. Cool you’re rooting against Bedard. Lol

Now the Blackhawks are the worst team in the league!

I didn't watch the game,so I'm not sure what 98 looked like.
What he did last year was nothing short of amazing considering the team and his age.
I expected a bit more out of a "generational talent" this year.
Right now behind last year's point pace. Still early, but unless he goes on a tear soon, he probabaly won't even be a ppg player this season. Doesn't bode well for the Blackhawks overall.

- captainserious

Good call. Trade Bedard now he will never be a ppg player.

Interesting that for all his flaws (age/speed/etc), pretty much any line that Foligno is on is really effective. Now, how do they spread that across the top two lines?

The 3rd line is good kind of regardless of who is on it. Kinda sucks Anderson can't get back in, but who is he gonna replace? Surprisingly, the 4th line with Reichel is pretty good overall although they got caught watching a bit on the first goal against.

Maybe they need to push Maroon to the top line. He seems to be able to get people going and seems to have enough skill to be effective.

I'll reiterate what I said in a previous blog. If they want people to believe they are better, they can't just have one good game. They need to be able to string together wins. Otherwise, a lot of people (including those that actually make decisions for the team) will start losing patience.

Would’ve been nice to see Hall and Kurashev on the ice at the end of the game. Instead Foligno and Smith were on the ice. Cannot just kick it in when they want to, just not good enough to do that right now.
- ChicagoHope

I dunno the Hall for captain talks a bunch you could def sell me on. Smith has been significantly more productive than Kurashev so I guess you gotta play the hot hand?

Apparently they need Foligno to save that line again.

Bertuzzi has been playing better and only wants the puck if he's in front of the net. Probably worth putting him there for 2 or 3 games.

To me, Kurashev is falling back into obscurity. Not sure if he is trying to do too much, but he seems to be back to overthinking things. There were 2-3 times last night where he was fed with a nice pass in his wheelhouse and he dusted it off instead of just firing it on net. The goalie had plenty of time to get over and square instead of being forced to make a harder save.

Last night was a tough loss. The puck is just not going into the back of the net. It's as if everything has to work out perfectly for this team to score a goal. Couldn't even come away with s point last night. So we are better than last year but unfortunately we are only better compared to ourselves

One thing i do miss when Q used to coach his team in the defensive zone the players most always had their hockey sticks on the ice, rarely see that in our own zone anymore.

He's gonna go on a heater eventually where he bangs in like 15 goals in 10 games and they will probably have a 3 or 4 game win streak in there.

It's still a bad hockey team lacking another legitimate scoring threat. They probably should have had more like 4 goals in that game. Not gonna win many just scoring 2. Being in the bottom third for ES goals is indicative of their talent level.

TT and Bertuzzi should be good for 20 each. Past that it's a bunch of dudes who are 5-15 depending on the season, health and weird poop.

Smith got his first NHL points ever tonight. Good for him. That first goal was pretty impressive turning an off pass into a goal. The Sharks were going to win some games at some point. I don't think the Hawks played a bad game last night, just an unfortunate result.

And some guys have been disappointing. Kurashev has regressed to his career line (though at least he was driving play forward) and Reichel was underwater again.

To the Hawks credit though - they're in the top half for even strength goals allowed so if the measuring stick is being less bad and keeping games closer then they're hitting that mark. And as some others have mentioned they are getting shots.

I also think that Brodie and Hall are suffering from the same thing, their feel for the puck on their stick is gone. They are both really bad at it now.

Lets say KD decides to bring up 2 of Nazer/Dach/Gutman.

What are his moves? put AA on waivers? Then what? He isn't going to waive Maroon, Smith /Donato/Anderson the ones that were on the bubble to make the team have arguably been their better/most consistent forwards.

I guess you could try and sell high on Donato, but are you really improving the team, and what kind of return are you going to get for him?

Kurashev/Reichel, 2 of the younger forwards have been disappointing. Reichel was the worst Hawk based on Hockeystatcards. last night. Kurashev has the worst +- at -8. Murphy was the best player on the ice, followed by the Foligno line.

As I've been reminded here, better is a certain point of view kind of thing and how you measure outcomes. I'm with you and that "more competitive" means more points in the standings. Maybe for Kyle and those people it means improvement metrically to give them the opportunity to win more games.

I don't think they will get an uproar from the fans and most media until the Bears season is over and Flous doesn't get fired at which point they'll look at the Hawks and take out their frustrations there.

In some ways on paper they're better. Results wise they are still very bad but will also probably go on some kind of heater. They should have a good opportunity to pick up some points against the Kings, Ducks and Wings these next three so we'll see how it goes.

AA is unfortunately just extra oxygen at this point. KD isn't going to bring up two prospects. At best it would be one and only for a specific purpose.

My thing with Reichel is that he is at least generating chances now. I gave up holding the torch for him after the preseason, but there are signs he is progressing, so I guess that's a plus? I've lost interest in Kurashev as well. He's one of those guys that "should" be good but isn't really.

I stand by my statement from last year that he is not a good player and the only shred of hockey sense he had was taking the puck to the house when the rest of the other team went to Bedard. Someone was going to get points and he just happened to be that years Taylor Raddysh.

I doubt if Recichel or Kurashev will be on the team when it becomes relevant again 2 or 3 years down the road. They're just becoming placeholders like over half the other guys on the team.

Not too early to think about the 2025 draft. Good article about my man Michael Misa.

Maybe Wirtz and his business guru's knew what they were doing making it difficult to watch the team this year.

not the worst thing that we are in last. another 1st overall wouldn't hurt. Game last night could have gone either way. Mrazk has be good but let in 2 softies last night and thats the difference.

With Broissart still injured and Soderblom sick, playing 9 out of the first 11 games does Mrazek no favors either.

Yeah, he just went back to back with Commesso up, so not ideal. Soda is back, so probably going to get a game this weekend.

TT is probably a good 2nd line player. He mostly played 2nd line on Carolina (as far as I know). Still no real top line forwards besides Bedard who is gonna struggle at times he’s 19.

This is a very different league than when Crosby came up. More athletic more guys can skate less time and room on the ice.

Yes, Mrazek is OK behind a good team playing about 45 games/year. Behind a team with offensive production troubles like the Hawks those softies he frequently lets in are killers.

With Anderson hurt again as usual maybe Carolina would like him back?
