Cates made two bad mistakes in the last minute that led to Schenn getting that great chance to tie it. So much for being elite defensively. - Feanor
All players make mistakes. Even Selke winners make defensive mistakes. I wouldnt use one sequence as evidence that he isnt good defensively. No player is perfect. Cates is a good defensive 4th liner.

One of these days you're going to learn one, what a top 4 defenseman actually is. Second that players are judged over a large sample of games. Then again, you probably won't. How many times have you sang the Risto song?
If Ristolainen is a legit top 4 defenseman, the Flyers should have no problem trading him. What are they waiting for? - MJL
I agree with most of your statement, but lots of gm get the wool pulled over their eyes a lot (contract years were a player looks like a stud to Boost their wallets)
If risto has a strong season going into the trade deadline I don't think the Flyers would have a problem moving him and with the right trade partner could even get a 1st i doubt it but possible we gave up a first for a lesser player then he is now |
|
|
|
He has 3 years left. If he plays well enough length wont be an issue. Moving him as a 3rd pair D would be difficult but right now hes playing well in a higher role and if he can do that long term then he becomes a lot more attractive to GMs. GMs may see him as a top 4 option.
One GMs trash is anothers treasure. People say he cant be moved but the same thing was said about Lecavalier as well LA took him and sent us a prospect back. Should also be mentioned not every GM is a great GM. Theres a handful of GMs out ther primed to make a dumb move. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Do you know why Vinny was moved? this is a totally different situation. not remotely the same.
wouldn't he become attractive to the flyers if he became a top 4 option? not like the have RH defenders ready to take on a top 4 role. |

Why not if we take money back kinda like the walker trade it's not impossible to get a 1st
Walker had a strong season with us but remember the 4 years previously he wasn't as good |

yeah it also not impossible to hit the powerball.
well that is wrong as walker was a solid top 4 dman before his injury. came back had a sown year then picked it back up last season.
cracks me up peeps now think a 1st is possible if you trade RR |

We gave up a 1st for him lol
And he looks better now then he did before we aquire him.
And if we take a contract back it's definitely not out of the realm of possibilities |

what they gave up means jack schitt as we sit here at 5:01 on November 1 2024.
flyers fans are the best, can you give a possible example of a potential trade? |

A team come playoffs that need size on the back end, a gm who is worried about his job might give up more to hold on his job.
Example of such team is ridiculous 10 games in and 40 more to play before trade deadline, but if a team with injuries in a playoff spot,
Also more importantly risto has to play solid all the way up to trade deadline (if he doesn't all chances are done) |

I wonder if the Avs would have interest is Laughton now. They're decimated by injuries and currently have a poopy record.
Any chance DB can move in for a mild fleecing? |

Term is always an issue unless a player is a very good player. Which Ristolainen is not.
Lecavalier agreed to retire after the season, essentially making him a rental. The Flyers also sent them Luke Schenn. All for a middling prospect in Weal and a 3rd round pick. Not remotely the same situation unless Ristolainen is willing to retire and walk away

This coming from the naive fan who actually believes McAvoy is a top pairing defenseman
The Flyers will wait until the deadline where they can get the best offer, just like they did with Walker last season. It just kills you doesn't it? Frost is playing like trash while Risto is stepping up and playing the best hockey he has played since the trade. One of these days you will learn your lesson and listen to me! |

If Risto stays healthy and continues to play like he has played this season, and the season before he got hurt last year, GMs will be lining up for his services come deadline time. Risto is exactly the kind of defenseman contending teams look at for the playoffs, big, physical with skill. You all have undervalued Risto for years. I told you all he would get good coaching from Torts and his staff for the first time and he would improve, and that is exactly what has happened. A lot of people on this forum don't know what they are watching, if they are watching at all! |

I don't think you could make a bigger fool of yourself. The entire hockey world thinks that McAvoy is a top pairing defenseman.
Walker was on an expiring contract. Ristolain is not. Frost doesn't have anything to do with Ristolainen.
You've been on record numerous times saying Ristolainen is the FLyers best defenseman since he's been here. He's certainly not now and you say he's playing his best hockey since the trade. Can't make it up.

With the cap going up further next year, Risto's contract becomes less and less of an issue. I don't think teams would give upa conditional 1st as Colorado did last season for Walker, but I can see a 2nd if the Flyers cover some money or take a short contract back. |

Ristolainen's play is just average. Ristolainen is a middling player who has two more years left after this season at 5.1M. That is not the kind of player that GM's line up for. 4 games of decent play does not change that.

I don't care what hockey pundits think, I care what actual scouts and coaches tell me, and they all agree McAvoy showed his true colors in the past two payoffs. I told you two years ago that if Risto got proper coaching he would greatly improve, and that is exactly what has happened. I told you more than two years ago that I just didn't see it with Frost, they he was all fluff and no stuff, and that is exactly what he is. Admit it. You were wrong about all this and I was right, as usual. The only embarrassment here is you coming at me daily trying your best to shoot down anything I say, but the proof is in the pudding as a limey once said, and now you have to swallow it!

But its not 4 games and you know it. Risto had a very good 2022 season and has played very well this year so far. Torts even said Risto was his most improved player in 2022. |

And after the Flyers beat the Bruins tomorrow, your boy Montgomery will be fired. Yup, Jack Adams award winner, modern coach, best season in NHL history and he will be out of work very soon. Can't make it up! |

lining up I tell you. his past playoff experience will drive up the price. 1st rd pick minimum return.
I will ask you again then why would the flyers want to move him if he is such a legit good RH top 4 dman?

Ristolainen's overall play as a Flyer has been objectively middling. The trade is an abject disaster for the Flyers. 4 games doesn't change that.

team will be lining up to use the extra cap space for a cost-controlled RR. He probably will be one of the top 3 coveted dman come the deadline. |

You continue to act like a child. Bringing in unrelated topics that have no relevance. Every coach eventually gets fired. Tortorella has been fired how many times? He was fired in Vancouver after less than one season and you think he's the greatest coach in the world. Keep on keeping on JD. |
