I might be the only one who likes Reaves on our roster, not as an everyday player, but to be the guy to drop the gloves so more useful players don't have to, and can actually win a fight. Reaves in the box for 5 is so much more appealing than McCabe (for example)
- systemtool

I dont mind reaves, just dont like the term or his contract. But c'est la vie

Don'y know if I have ever known the answer to this and could sound dumb...since they are allowed a 23 man roster, why can't the "dress" a 23 man roster instead of line juggling in the event of an in-game injury while the extra guys are in the press box?

Is there some kooky NHL logic to this rule that I don't understand?

Basketball has a super long bench with players that don't see the court.
Soccer, same.
Football, same.
Baseball, kinda...at least to the extent that if a player is injured it doesn't completely (frank) up the game.

- underhill14

The maximum number of players a team can dress for a game is 20 - including 2 goaltenders, who are mandatory. That rule actually came into effect in 1982-83. If you go back to the start of the NHL, I believe they had some rule where you had to have at least 8 to play, but no more than 12, excluding goalies. The number of skaters actually changed a lot over the years going up and down having different rules for home and away - and the 2 goalie rule didn't even come into effect until the mid-60s. The guy is playing without a mask in front of a Bobby Hull slapshot and he has no backup? No you know why it's endemic in hockey culture to protect the f'n goalie. You don't want to be the next man up!

I don't know too much about the maximum numbers on a roster because I recall reading stuff about how it was grown during the wars and how it used to be less restrictive and so on. But like if you look in the 1930s, teams had like 19 guys on the roster period.

All the sports that you mention though - they still have a maximum number of players you can dress for a game and a maximum number you can have on your active roster.

Absolutely nobody fears him anymore. All kinds of dirty stuff happens whether he's in the line-up or not. I'd rather have a team built like a pack of wolves than have one goon who is washed who plays 5 min a game for half a season.

You want a goon? Fine. Get a goon. But get one who isn't 37 / 38. And who can play hockey the rest of the time he's not gooning.

- Rare_Jewel

I don't expect anyone to fear him. I just expect him to take the fighting duties when needed and he can definitely still win most of the tilts.

who said anything about fear? I just want a guy who can fight and win his fights and this dude can. you seem confused between goon and power forward. goons for the most part can't play aka McLaren and Orr. who gives a (frank) if the guy winning fights and can't score is 28 or 38

Happy birthday stoner. I don’t think that’s gonna happen for ya.

But maybe Rielly will drop the mitts and lay a beating on Boo Ridly for you.

Wow, another bad hot take. Cool.
But no, anyone listening to Sportsnet or TSN probably doesnt watch the view.
Also, I doubt anyone on the view talks about the leafs or knows any hockey insiders.

But carry on.

I feel like this is gonna be one of those games that the leafs don't show up against a ceappy team, specifically because they know losing against THIS crap team drives us crazy.
