I think people had/have way too high expectations for Bobby McMann. I like him on the team and I think he can score 15ish, but he's a tweener at best overall and his 3 hattricks or whatever last year really don't paint a full picture. - AdamFrench
He's 6'2 / 210 and uses his size effectively. He's a bottom-6 forward for sure - and he really complimented Lorentz and Kampf on the 4th line by bringing some offensive sense to the puck movement. I think he's earned more than being just a tweener - but he's a 3rd line player ideally. I mean on Florida their 3rd line is probably Luostarinen - Lundell - Boqvist. I wouldn't put McMann below Jesper Boqvist and probably would keep in the same bucket as a guy like Luostarinen.
We've McMann promoted and he's not really a top-6 guy - but his work ethic is there. |

Leafs Pull Out Big Win in Washington
by Atomic Wedgie, and AI
Game Summary
The Toronto Maple Leafs pulled off an impressive comeback to defeat the Washington Capitals 4-3 in overtime. The Capitals led 3-1 heading into the third period, but the Maple Leafs rallied with goals from William Nylander and Mitch Marner in the final minutes of regulation. John Tavares scored the game-winning goal in overtime with just 47 seconds remaining.
Hakanpaa's Debut
Joel Hakanpaa made his debut for the Maple Leafs last night. He played a solid game, contributing to the team's defensive efforts and helping to shut down some of the Capitals' key offensive players. His presence on the ice was noticeable and he showed great potential in his first game with the team.
John Tavares' Contract Status
John Tavares is currently in the final year of his contract with the Maple Leafs. There has been a lot of speculation about his future with the team, as he is a key player and leader for the Maple Leafs. The team and Tavares' camp have yet to reach an agreement on a new contract, but both sides have expressed interest in keeping him in Toronto.
It was an exciting game with a lot of action! Do you think the Maple Leafs can keep up this momentum? - Atomic Wedgie

He makes $1.35M for this year and next.
He's fantastic at that price. |

I'm assuming Matthews is back soon - but obviously know nothing more than any one else here. So until Pacioretty is back, we have something like this in the top-6:
Knies - Matthews - Marner
Domi - Tavares - Nylander
Then we have something like this as the bottom-6:
McMann - Dewar - Lorentz
Reaves - Kampf - Holmberg
I'm not sure where Robertson gets rolled out in that situation. Like if everyone is healthy then where do you even play Domi? Does he bump McMann and McMann bumps Reaves? I actually think McMann and Lorentz play well together in the limited time I've seen play on a line.
Robertson played his way into making the roster at training camp and has successively played his way off of the roster through this season. His effort is there, but he is shooting from too far away. His shot selections are too often desperate and poor and lead to turnovers and loss of possession or momentum.
I'm sure he has it in him, I really am. I just don't think this is where he's going to find it. - Monkeypunk
Agree on Robby.
I think it is time to move on. I mentioned Vatrano earlier and I think the Ducks wait until the TDL because lately he is picking his play up. He is a legit 25 goal 50 point guy I think.
However I think Tre could either involve Robertson in a trade for Dvorak, or trade for Dvorak and ship Robby elsewhere for a Lily type return.
Tre drafted Dvorak in ARZ, he has ties to Domi and Marner. He is a natural C.
I know Habs fans are low on him and he has not been good there...but the tools are there maybe he can unlock something here.
50% retained and Robby out plus Steeves sent down they have 130K left on LTIR with a full roster and Patches on IR.

50% retained or just over $2m is going to be costly, also Montreal already has 2 of their 3 retaining slots used. It will probably cost Toronto a 2nd or 3rd round pick on top of Robbie and whatever else they have to had in for Dvorak.
Not sure its worth it for a possible project.
Id look to SJ or KRaken. If the leafs want to move him to Montreal maybe try to get Armia, he's a little bigger, I think a little faster than dvorak and $1m cheaper. |

Give him a shot on the 2nd line. Don't know why Domi is solidified there with his no goals and handful of assists.

This.
Domi has no goals in 18 games. No reason he cant be moved to the 3rd line. |

Agree. Robertson isn't a grinder but yet he's put with grinders and expected to flourish....makes no sense to me. Either give him a legit top 6 shot or just stop wasting everyone's time. Domi is more suited for the 3rd line than Robertson tbh. |

I wouldn't say Domi is solidified there - I would say that he has proven himself over the years and while he is snake-bitten at the moment, he has a history of success that probably should give him an opportunity over a player who has proven nothing but has gone so far as to demand more than he's earned . . . I believe Nick Robertson has some skills, but he's a smaller player who will need bigger players with him to succeed. He doesn't win battles, can't compete on the wall, doesn't have a mean streak, doesn't stick up for his teammates and doesn't pass the puck. I don't see - quite sincerely - any value in Robertson playing with anyone other than a distributor like Domi or Marner - but both are too sleight to give a line with both Robertson and them on it enough value, in my opinion.
Bottom line - Domi is better than Robertson, but as soon as Pacioretty is back, he should be the 2LW and Domi has to bump down somewhere else. For me - just like Marner - I don't need Domi to score. I need Domi to be setting up other guys to score and I admit he isn't doing that right now either.

Not disagreeing but hard to prove yourself when you're not properly used and slotted. AM and MP out was the perfect time to give him a top role and if he doesn't make the most of it just stop playing him after that. No reason Domi should be playing number one center duties, even with Matthews out.
Robertson JT Marner
Knies Domi Willy
why not? not a massive reach... especially when scoring hasn't been there lately..until the last handful of minutes of the 3rd period yesterday |
