Ultimately Lindholm doesn't look like he's what Boston wanted - he's not offensive enough to drive line 1 and he's not being used in the defensive role that he's best at (and at $8m it's hard to put him in that role).

- Monkeypunk

Agreed, Lindholm is a 2C not a 1C...The bruins are mis-casting him and it is hurting. Problem is that they are weak down the middle.

Also I think this may be the drop off that everyone thought they were gonna have when Bergeron/Krieji left. Swayman and Ulmark are both worse without the other

He would be an amazing fit on TML at 2C. Sigh.

Bruins have tried to cast him as Bergeron 2.0. He's not that.

I've done that before and it vanished into a memory hole never to be seen again. I can't even find the ones I have written in the past. They just vanish.

It would be great if Dozzer could ask Ek if he has any plans to hire a new Leafs blogger.

If there are no plans, would your plan work? I'd be happy to have AI write a blog every 2-3 days - you think Ek would put it on the main page?

We're about 25% of the way through the season. On the surface the Bruins are an average team right now - at 5v5 they are -3 and are 17th in xGF% - so very mid-range. They have an above average 5v5 save percentage, an above average number of HD chances against (meaning fewer), but a lower HD Save percentage. All of that usually translates to a bubble team in the wild card mix.

What's killing Boston right now is their special teams are dreadful. They are dead last in the league with an 11.7% PP and 25th with a 75.6% PK. I mean no one has drawn as many penalties as the Bruins, but as is the NHL's wont, no one has taken as many either leaving Boston with a small deficit in that area (-3 net penalties).

We want them to suffer through some bad contracts? The Bruins have paid Elias Lindholm $7.75m for 7 years and he has 9 points through 20 games with only 5 of those being at 5v5. Last year the Calgary Flames had a dreadful powerplay and then they traded Lindholm and got Kuzmenko in return. The Flames power play went from 29th @ 13.8% at the time of the trade to 12th @ 24% from the time of the trade. Vancouver's powerplay fell from 8th @ 25% at the time of the trade to 24th at 18.8% from the time of the trade.

I would speculate that if Boston wanted to improve their powerplay they would get Elias Lindholm off of unit 1 - and possibly off of the Power Play altogether. Likely because he is being used in an offensive role, Lindholm - who is one of their better penalty killers - isn't on the PK as much as guys like Beecher and Coyle, who sort of suck at it in comparison to Lindholm and Zacha.

Ultimately Lindholm doesn't look like he's what Boston wanted - he's not offensive enough to drive line 1 and he's not being used in the defensive role that he's best at (and at $8m it's hard to put him in that role).

Watching the Bruins slowly fall apart is becoming my new fetish. If you had posted this with a picture of Syrup Girl, my big toe would have shot up in my boot.

The salary cap and salary demands will always work against maintaining a stable, long-term, contender roster. The Bruins and the Penguins have both been raging against the dying of the light for a few seasons now. Just good enough to hover around the playoff bubble, but lacking the depth and prime elite players to make deep championship runs. Having multiple HOF guys on your roster is great, but if they are all past their primes then not so much.

Boston has vexxed both of my Blue and Whites for a long long time. Tampa exorcised those demons by curb-stomping the Bruins a couple of times in the playoffs, but I still want to see the Leafs do the same.

So yeah, watching them struggle is hot.....soooo hot.

Just one further thought: I can understand how it's hard to get a Blue Jackets blogger, but FFS, how hard is it to get a Leafs blogger?

Believe it or not, this site has been a stepping stone for a lot of bloggers, who have gone on to establish themselves as legit hockey writers.

Surely Ek can find some young punk (steal them from another site) who is willing to make the investment in their career.

Yes, and their goalie just signed for 8 years X $8.25M, and he currently has a .884 SV% and a 3.47 GAA.

saw someone mention Marchand. he is a UFA. would the BB move him?

my top target right now would be RoR. again
Marchand would be something, what a heel turn in reverse that would be.

I know the leafs dont have the assets, but adding RoR and BM for a playoff would be

if this team cant make a run with 2 players added like that...fold the team

You keep pushing this RoR narrative, and although there is 0.00% chance of it happening, damn, wouldn't it be good?

We could have 3 legit scoring lines, and play our 4th line 5 minutes a game.

You ever think that your top targets being 34 and 36 years old might be part of the problem?

That's nice, but seeing the Sens die with Ullmark and already start questioning on the radio after only two months while D'Accord, Gustavsson, Talbot all have great seasons is pretty nice.

I do? I dont really remember mentioning him

does he have trade protection? I know he wasnt a fan of the Toronto craziness. so yeah..its very unlikley

got any quotes?

im just pulling some from articles I can find.

O'Reilly said that, for a while, he and his family "strongly considered" a return to Toronto was possible. However, the 32-year-old mentioned that while it was an amazing place to play, being in the limelight was a lot for him.

"It was a tough decision for sure," he said on Leafs Morning Take.

“It was and is an amazing place to play,” said O’Reilly, who grew up a couple of hours west of the city. “Just putting on that jersey, you can just feel the love that comes with it, how much pride people take in that jersey. Its hockey’s team. … It was definitely not an easy decision not (to re-sign) there.”

“You could tell everything’s amplified,” O’Reilly said. “I don’t do it often, (but) it was a good thing when I played there that I didn’t turn on the TV much or turn on the radio, because there are (so many outlets) talking about it. … Everything’s covering it, talking about it. Here, it gets a little time on the TV, but it’s not everything. It is more than just a game there.”

Above all, O’Reilly said, the Predators offered him more opportunity than the Maple Leafs could.

I might be alone in this thought, but JT is great as a 2nd line C. No chance I'd replace him with lindholm.
