I would replace him with Lindholm in a heartbeat at 2C.

Lindholm is an elite defensive C and can keep up with talented wingers if given the chance. And before you say "But Boston" - they're a dumpster fire right now. Marchand has declined considerably and even Pasta is looking weak at this point. Is that because Lindholm is dragging them or because the entire team has collapsed? I think the latter.

I love Snake, but he is a liability defensively and should be shifted to the wing.

I don't think he's the best defensively but he's far from a liability. There's a reason so many teams keep moving on from Lindholm. 17 goals in his last 100 or so games. Hard pass over JT. Especially don't want Lindholms contract and term, JT at least will be coming off the books and shouldn't be making what Lindholm is now.

Nah. He had a run of 5 straight seasons with CGY where he was ostensibly a PPG player with top tier defensive play.

His last year in CGY the offensive wheels started to fall off - Huberdeau's precipitous decline clearly didn't help matters.

Frankly, I do think his offensive numbers during those peak years were likely propped up by Gaudreau (RIP) and Tkachuk, but he is still a viable 2C at this point in his career.

The Broons thought they were getting a Bergeron replacement. He's not that and won't be that going forward.

- mjones242

Agreed. He's an absolute 2C and a quality one. PK guy too.

Bruins are going to have a tough time filling the void but hey they got pretty much an extra decade more than most people thought they'd get.

I have watched some of the Bruins - I can say that Pastrnak has not declined. Marchand has struggled to find chemistry, I think - but I don't watch enough of them to draw a fair conclusion. McAvoy has looked steady and Pastrnak has been dangerous. I think one thing is the mid level of talent that runs down the middle (especially noting that Coyle has been very poor) coupled with the aging or less talented supporting cast on the wings and it may be that the ever predicted decline of Boston is here.

I'd love a guy like Lindholm for the 3rd line - but not at $8m, that's ludicrous. I just don't even think he's that offensive enough to offer strong support in a 2C role that you need scoring out of.

Last season with Flames, minus player. Went to Van and was a minus player. Now in Boston again minus player. He's not all too great without Tkachuk as his winger.

I think we take JT for granted here because there are younger more flashy players that we compare him to. 34, 16, 88, but also being greatly over paid puts him in a less appealing perspective.

Honestly, i dont think we need more players over 35.
If it was ROR and Marchant from 2 -3 years ago, sure.
But then again, couldn't make us worse i suppose.

I guess its a risk since they already have the skating corpse John Tavares

9 goals, 17 points in 18 games. He may not be the fastest but it's rather sad people are acting like he's useless and done and not contributing still at a high level.

Ah so Tavares is a corpse at 34 (17pts so far) but you want to bring in a 36 year old mini troll?
ROR is only 33...so I stand corrected on my previous post....hes not over 35.

Its pretty funny, yes he's slowed down...but he still has high quality talent.
3 years from now? Who knows...but as of today, he's still pretty damn good.

Auston Matthews is currently in Munich receiving treatment from a doctor he's worked with in the past, and is being accompanied by a team physician. The #leafs say there's no been no setback or change in his status.

Do we even know what’s wrong with him?

I came to post similarly. He isn't what he once was but he's still playing at a high level. He's never been a fast skater but he has high hockey IQ and can do his job. The problem is he's being paid as a 1C for this year and thats why I think people dislike him so much.

Marchand is highly skilled and talented but he can't carry a team, especially in his mid 30s. Boston seems to have lost some of what has made them great for so long. Team chemistry and being better as a team than individual talent/skill is.

No doubt he's highly over paid, but comments like calling him a corpse makes me hate our fan base at times.
