So Kurashev and Reichel sit primarily because of lack of compete, and they watch an entire team that it is getting quite obvious is packing it in.
So is this the culture that is being instilled after 3 straight years at the very bottom? IMO, close to 2/3 the team hope they are with a new team by the TDL, including those that have contracts that extend past this season. - LAHawk
Idk but you've really embraced the fatalistic vibe of this place which is funny for a guy who used to poke fun at it. I was hoping for better this season too but I like the fact that a lot of the younger players are working their way into the lineup.
The results haven't been there consistently but I do think if a number of the placeholders are gone next year the on-ice product will be better. I get what KFC was going for and don't disagree that it's a good thing to let the young guys force their way on to the Big Club.
Kurashev has been meh whenever he's in. Reichel has had games where he's looked decent but he needs to do more with his opportunity.

I liked the TT, Brrtuzzi, and the zmartinez signing. I do not like overpaying veterans for 2 years in order to reach the cap floor.
Even the Canadiens game, the Hawks were outplayed, Sodablom was the sole reason they won.
Can you honestly say the team (collectively) has Ben putting in an 60 minute effort the past 6 games? Or does culture mean Maroon snd Foligno Foligno picking fights to try and spark the masses..
And no I do not believe the internet conspiracy going around that Seth Jones is a cancer in the locker room. |

I wouldn't say cancer, but he has definitely said some things the past two years that have not sat well in that room.

I think the overpayments were more to get guys to come here during a rebuild. The TT and Bert signings are market value and my guess would be more like what we see going forward.

Well from what I'm seeing is KD tried to win more games by the free agents he brought in. Unfortunately it didn't work out the way he thought it would. The good news is he's only strapped with the Seth Jones contract.
I guess this is more of what i expected when the Blackhawks announced they were going to rebuild. To me it makes no sense to suddenly change gears and start selling what you're trying to cultivate. |

Did he? Or did he try to make it look that way, while still trying to get another high pick? |

I like your theory, if he didn't fire LR i most definitely would agree, but i think he thinks the Blackhawks shouldn't be as bad as they are.
This season sucks but then again it sounds like getting a top 4 pick is a good thing for those 4 franchises. |

The front office, including KD, made it clear last offseason the Hawks were bringing in vets to win more games and establish a culture.
If you are implying this was a ruse, then the front office and KD lied to the fanbase about trying to win more games.
If it wasn't a ruse, then KD and the front office, as of now, failed miserably with respect to winning more games and establishing a better culture.
I don't want to hear the "you have to be patient it is a rebuild" narrative. If that is what is going on, then don't tell fans you are trying to win more games. Pick a lane and stay in it. |

The business side, including ownership, wants to sell tickets during the rebuild; and it wants a successful rebuild, which has a better chance of success with more high-end picks. Just a theory....

But isn't this also reaffirming KDs initial theory to blow it all up? You just can't throw money at the problem and solve your issues.
As Theo said, the 24 or 25th player(i know they changed it to 24 but i think they changed it back to 25) on your roster is just as important as your number 1 player to win a world series.
Do you remember when we won in 2010 and only able to afford 9 players on the roster. We were a shell of a team in 2011, had to back into the playoffs and lost in the 1st round of the playoffs 2 years in a row until Bowman was able to trade and sign key pieces to go on 3 more cup runs.
It may seem we are so far away from those days but statistically speaking i really like what KD has done to stock pile the farm system. If he's more right then wrong in the 1st round and adding top 100 picks in 4 drafts, and from what i understand a condition of being drafted by KD and Co is you must compete, and skate except for Boisvert, this will soon be a very difficult team to play against. One of the biggest advantages to the other rebuilds i see in the league is our dmen are already in the system and developing while we are adding a lot of forwards to the stables.
Oh and Boisvert has compete in spades, when watching a couple of evaluations of him a couple of guys on the tube said he's old school kind of hockey player, he gives an honest effort every shift and is the most consistent player in the past few years to check players. |

Time to dress Reichel and give him top nine minutes. While he’s played top six minutes in the past, I don’t recall a significant string of games there. He would always get two games in a row and then back to the fourth line. Give the kid 10-15 games of top six or at least top nine minutes.
Bertuzzi/Bedard/TT
Hall/Reichel/Nazar
Sure they may get pinned in their zone at times, heck they’re getting pinned there now with vets. |

You aren't wrong really. They were likely to do this anyway after the TDL, why not get a jumpstart on it. You can bring up Slaggert and Anderson (hey, he scored four goals last night). Move on from Smith, Maroon, and Donato (and maybe Hall). They can at least get a good run of kids in meaningful games instead of just a small handful at the end of the year when teams are on cruise control or resting guys. |

They need to move Seth. Not being available for interviews after the Winter Classic blowout, what's up with that? Is there some reason we don't know about?

Rangers claim Kaliyev from LA.
Why not? What's there to lose? Young (23), big kid, zero cost, and might just need a change of scenery (and an open spot). These are the kind of moves that can be made (like Kakko) so you aren't adding 37 year olds at bloated contracts that don't improve the team. They've already got plenty of "leadership". |

All for blowing it up and stock piling blue chips. My beef is hearing about wanting to win more and establishing a culture by bringing in veterans and then seeing that fail so far this season. To me, this was an indication from the front office, that the Hawks were entering into the next phase of the rebuild.
Either the plan is not working this season or it was never really the plan to begin with.
Love the Boisvert pick. Love the middle round picks of high compete kids that can skate.

Apparently not enough leadership, since KD had to go yell at them in the locker room. |

I've been reading a lot about JT Miller and Pettersen in VAN. If he is even remotely available, I want Miller on the Hawks. Size, reasonable age, can play and produce, and gets vocal when other guys aren't pulling their weight. He's pretty much everything you want Foligno to be, but better. |

The cost to acquire him will be steep. And do you want to risk him causing problems in the Hawk dressing room? Whatever moves KD makes he has to be very careful. |
