Regardless of what Bedard ends up being, they likely need a #1 two-way center as well. That guy could already be in the system, but that is definitely needed.
The Hawks seem to have 4-5 guys that they hope can be centers
Bedard
Nazar
Moore
Greene
James/Thompson/Safonov (LOL)
And 1 that pretty much is, but not sure about the offensive ceiling.
Boisvert
I'm actually pretty positive overall with the wingers they've accumulated.
Spellacy
Lardis
Vanacker
Kantserov
Slaggert
all look pretty good at the moment and the improvements they've made to their games year over year have been notable. - Chunk
Have to find a #1 two way center. Need Bedard to become and elite offensive player. 90-100pts a year. Otherwise, you start looking like the Red Wings. Lots of good prospects that come up but no high end top end talent. End up stuck in purgatory.
Who knows. Maybe Bedard matures physically speaking and by 22-23 he is an absolute tank and can play #1C night in and night out against the best teams.
Anyone play at a high enough level they can opine on whether NHL goalies can watch tape of Bedard's shot and learn how to predict it/stop it? Don't see him fooling goalies this year, at least the games I've watched. Love to hear Lundquist opine on the subject. Love his insight on the TNT intermission shows when he is on.

My cousin played goalie for years (through three years of college) and I asked him about it. He said this year, it seems as Bedard is looking for the more "perfect" shot and hesitating too much which allows the goalie to get set and make an easier save.
If you look at a lot of his goals last year, he let go of them while in motion (OT goal against WPG, strip and score vs FLA, numerous streaks down the left side of the ice to rip a shot through a defender). Not sure if he is just being smothered by other teams, but he looks like he is trying to slow the game down when he should probably just let the thing rip. |

Not saying he is the answer, but didn't Spellacy play a lot of center and play center for the Hawks in the preseason? I'm just not sure if he is for sure a winger.

Well th Hawks already have about 6 or 7 old overpaid players, might as well have one more |

Ya know I am starting to lean a bit toward he is more a Kane type, which is still a phenomenal #1 overall pick, but not all worldly McDavid, Crosby, McKinnon type.
Stuck between that and it just being a lack of effort thing/not physically matured yet. There were a few shifts in the 3rd of the winter classic where I saw Bedard explode and beat everyone to a few pucks. He almost seemed angry and wanted to go get the puck. Rarely see that.
If he is more Kane, then you need a #1 two way center still to do the heavy lifting.
Idk though. So hard to tell considering how bad the team is most nights. - bhawks2241
He is on pace to produce more in his first two seasons than Mac did. With less around him. |

Can't argue with any of that. Complete richard. Good for 100 PIMs if he played 80 games too. Couldn't skate all that well by his early 30s too. |

I've been reading a lot about JT Miller and Pettersen in VAN. If he is even remotely available, I want Miller on the Hawks. Size, reasonable age, can play and produce, and gets vocal when other guys aren't pulling their weight. He's pretty much everything you want Foligno to be, but better. - Chunk
In the link I posted about Roenick whining about Bedard the next thing he and ref Tim Peel talk is VAN, and I think I have a new favorite player.
Peel said he got some inside scoop and it seems Miller is so hard on Pettersen he was told you're gonna break him! Guess Miller has a problem with Petey's 90 ft game and him going invisible for whole games and Petey's feelings are hurt.
I want that guy in the same locker room as Phenom Bedard!! .. Yep, Miller is my new fav and I say give VAN what they want for him.

The Hawks have plenty of asset options and won't/can't ice them all.
How much worse can it really get? I'd say to having a multiple time 30 goal scorer (who put up over 100 pts last year) and who constantly demands his teammates pull their weight is a net positive.
KD being careful got them to where they currently are. By no means am I saying trade everyone, but they can afford to give up a prospect and a high pick or two to get a bona fide NHL player. - Chunk
I say bring Miller in and the same way a new inmate is introduced to Bubba in prison introduce Miller to Bedard and tell him we brought in your new best friend.

Time to dress Reichel and give him top nine minutes. While he’s played top six minutes in the past, I don’t recall a significant string of games there. He would always get two games in a row and then back to the fourth line. Give the kid 10-15 games of top six or at least top nine minutes.
Bertuzzi/Bedard/TT
Hall/Reichel/Nazar
Sure they may get pinned in their zone at times, heck they’re getting pinned there now with vets. - Angotti
He has now been told by two coaches to shoot the puck more, but for some reason, it just doesn't click with him when he dresses.
How many chances should he get??
And if you watch his game, teammates hit him with good passes, and they keep bouncing off of his stick. And how many times do we need to see him try to stick handle through two defenders, and lose the puck??
When I watch him, I see mostly a turnover machine. When does all of this supposed talent start to actually show up in games?? |

They need to move Seth. Not being available for interviews after the Winter Classic blowout, what's up with that? Is there some reason we don't know about? - 333inthe3rd
From what I have been told, he was NOT happy about not getting the "C" after Toews left. He feels he had seniority, and he was entitled to it.
And when they rightfully gave it to Foligno, that also did not sit well.
He has usually been the last one on the ice for practices, and one of the first one off the ice when they end. Does that sound to you like someone that wants to be here??
And he is still being very selective on the teams he will waive his NTC to. I have not heard the list, but he is handcuffing them for future trade talks.
To be honest, if I were KFC, I would strip him of the "A", and send him home until I could work out a trade. And there would not be too many in that locker room that would miss him. |

Who cares who he is more valuable to? The Hawks wont' be contending for anything if they don't start learning how to win games in the NHL. Look, I'm with you on the age thing, but at least he's not broken down and he's playing well right now, not three years ago. $8M is not going to be a real hindrance to the team in 5 years anyway with the cap going up. - Chunk
Yes, they need to win some games, however acquiring and giving up assets for a soon to be 32 year old that still has five more years on his contract may not be the best strategy for this team, in my opinion. KD signed TT and Bertuzzi to multi year contracts last offseason, and they should add a good 28 year old or younger up front by trade or free agency this offseason. We’ll just agree to disagree on this one, good discussion. By the way, yesterday’s game was the worst game of the year, even worse than the winter classic. |

Very true. Took McKinnon a bit to get going. Bedard has to feel a ton of pressure. He has to know if he doesn’t produce every night the team is going to struggle to score. A lot for a 19 year old. |

Bedard is the least of the Hawks’ problems. I’m not happy with some aspects of his game but most are the same deficiencies Kane had. A few guys who can actually put a puck on his stick when he’s moving would be nice. And a few guys who are ready when he passes a no look pass that few in the league are capable of. |
