Excerpt from the Athletic. Wheeler had an article commenting on 100 WJC players. Here's his thoughts on Moore.
He made some skill plays and looked really confident with the puck. Finishing and execution aren’t always there, though, which has become a bit of a theme for him. He drew some penalties turning defenders’ heels. His skating is such a differentiator for him. Good on PK, created some offense. Tons of looks just lacked the finishing. |

Glad they couldn't trade up for him, if he does learn how to finish he most likely will be an NHL star. Curious to see how Minnesota does the rest of the season ranked number 3 right now.

From what I have been told, he was NOT happy about not getting the "C" after Toews left. He feels he had seniority, and he was entitled to it.
And when they rightfully gave it to Foligno, that also did not sit well.
He has usually been the last one on the ice for practices, and one of the first one off the ice when they end. Does that sound to you like someone that wants to be here??
And he is still being very selective on the teams he will waive his NTC to. I have not heard the list, but he is handcuffing them for future trade talks.
To be honest, if I were KFC, I would strip him of the "A", and send him home until I could work out a trade. And there would not be too many in that locker room that would miss him. - dahawks8819
I didn't know that about him at practices, or that it's gotten to the point of him ruling out destinations ahead of time. Guessing he wants Avs or Stars. Good luck with that.

Personally i believe they are in a great position regarding the salary cap even if you can't get over the over pay for players.
2 players off the books this year which will give the team $10 million to spend on a premium forward. FA, trade something will happen before next season starts.
Bedard will get a nice contract the following summer since he's really the only player performing offensively for this team.
Since the prospects are taking their time in developing i don't see any major contract going out to any of the other kids yet.
The following season they will have $20 million to spend, i imagine another premium forward will be signed, trade or both, Connor will probably get half that $20 mil
I forgot about AAs $4 mil coming off the books as well this year, McCabes $2 mil, Bailey's $1 mil - BetweenTheDots
Two players? I've got seven:
Hall
Donato
Kurashev
Smith
Maroon
Brodie
AA
Guessing that at least a few of those will be traded, but still. To your point, indeed, they won't have a problem with available money. The problem is what will that money be spent on?

Brodie is signed for next year.
You're probably thinking of Martinez. But yes, tons of money to be spent, with minimal going to AHL promotion guys like Dach, Slaggert, Savoie, KK.

phaneuf was a far bigger jagoff than Jones and just as terrible on the ice and someone traded for him. Never underestimate the stupidity of GMs - Elbows15
Phaneuf was worse on the ice as well, but he hit people, and there's always a market for that. Did he have a full NTC, though? |

What NHL player that plays 26 minutes a night is the first one on at pracitce and the last one off ?
Why ask and receive a NMC if you aren't going to use it? Is Jones the only one to say where he wants to go? Heck 2 kids not even signed out of college got traded because
Trouba got traded originally to New York because he wanted to play there (well his wife wanted him too), Tkaczuk ended up in Florida.
Keith would only go to a western Canadien team.
What teams have Petterson or Miller agreed to be traded to?
I can go on and on.
But since it is Jones, it makes him a cancer in the clubhouse.

Been reading this for awhile now. The whole nobody can keep up with Bedard so he has to enter the Ozone all alone..
Let me ask, how many times have you seen a 31 yr old 2nd pairing Dman catch Bedard from behind in open ice? Enough times anyone reading remembers........ Bedard is not fast man. I don't even think fanboys think he's fast anymore.
The reason he enters first, or has to wait up, is cuz he has a 50 ft head start cuz he's flying the zone!! Not a man who ever breathed could catch up to the phenom cuz he has a 50 or 75 ft head start in a 100 ft race.......
Can we please drop the nobody can keep up with Bedard please?? - Mr Ricochet
Burner or not argument aside, I understood the keeping up part to be how he thinks the game, that nobody on the team can keep up in that regard. This is why I wish they had signed Kaner again. |

If that is the case, isn'tt that a dereliction of duty by the GM for not moving him?

How do you know KD hasn't tried? Like you said Jones has that NMC and may be using it to limit all, or only a couple of destinations. And yes, you have given examples of other NMC players who have been moved so it's not impossible. An equally bad contract will likely have to come back, so KD would have to pick his poison. |

The comment was about the Hawks having 1 (only Jones) contract. I was making no distinction about whether the contract was a free agent signing, acquired through trade, etc. I didn't see the comment that the Hawks have one bad contract pre KD era that was a sign or trade.
So I am to believe the Hawks have zero players that are overpaid. Got it. - LAHawk
They have some guys that are overpaid, but under KD they haven't handed out egregious term/money to anyone, it's all been in the short term while they are figuring out their new core of younger players.
It's not like that bit of cap space they burned on these deals would be making a difference right now. The Hawks could have gone all in during free agency, spending market value on bigger names and we still wouldn't be a playoff team or even if we squeaked in, we'd be canon fodder for the actual contenders at this point. We aren't going to be an actual threat until we have a more impactful core of younger players ready to take that next step. |

If it is that bad then do what Guerin did, and buy him out if he can't move him.
After all, I keep reading that KD is the greatest GM of all time, he should figure out some way of irradicating a "cancer" |

How many NHL players wearing a letter are last on the ice and first off the ice? How many are not available for postgame interviews? Was Nick Lidstrom the last on the ice and first off of it for practices?
I don't object to a player invoking an NTC. Bowman was dumb enough to give him one, and I don't blame Jones for not wanting to be here after the big about face and full rebuild. And I wouldn't blame him for wanting to play for a good team, either, especially after what happened here after he signed.
Is it dereliction by the GM to not move him? Two parts to this. One is the salary floor. The other is the NTC limiting movement, which becomes especially challenging in a hard cap league when it comes to that much cap hit and that much term. |

nother way to convince a player to waive is to take away his ice time (Trouba). That hasn't been done either.

They didn't get there overnight, though. And a buyout, the absolute last resort, is one of the more onerous ones I've seen in the case of Jones. https://puckpedia.com/pla...-jones/buyout?s=2025-2026 |

They have have looked at moving him or considered it. I think any strong desire to move him will come when there is someone who can fill his skates. We've had essentially nobody else that is a first pair offensive minded Dman. They've eased Vlasic into some PP time, but he still isn't really the ideal fit IMO. I think they want someone that is a PP QB, like they may envision from guys like Lev or KK becoming.
Once we have someone else that can fill that void better, I think the Hawks interest in moving him could be actually tangible. I think right now, it's more if the opportunity comes around you take it, but no need to force/push a deal. |

But if he is as reported here by more than one poster a cancer. shouldn't he be removed immediately before the cancer metastasizes?

Jones is not the reason we're 12 - 980 the last three years.
