Didn't the greatest GM to ever bless the NHL with his presence acquire 4 goalies during last summer?

- vabeachbear

Pretty sure Edmonton only started the year with two.

I do agree with this, this way they just get it over with. It also lets vets know that if they do sign with the team they will get their full contract.

Even though the agents don't like dealing with KD, he's been honoring players wishes, of being bought out, traded or sending AA down so he can continue to collect his full paycheck.

- BetweenTheDots

Clearly. I know you’re kidding but love how these board myths/tropes get started. I know the guy who came in here and took his victory lap referenced one agent that said they didn’t like dealing with KFC. Didn’t realize that guy represented every player in the NHL.

The Jones trade is also a great indication of how far KFC is in over his head.

Maybe he still craps the bed this Summer and can’t get anyone to come here because he’s difficult and people don’t like him but I’m still surprised he was able to get what he got for Jones.

NHL contracts are fully guaranteed. They would get the full paycheck in any case unless the player agrees to have his contract terminated (a la Saad).

The "agents don't like KD" report wasn't near a complete poll, and he didn't even rank last. He received a few votes as the "worst". Why don't people ever read past the headlines?

So people like you can fill us in with the rest, hahaha

I wasn't sure how the buy out worked, obviously, thanks for letting me know

Actually i Googled it

If a player is bought out and is under 26 years old, the team pays the player one-third of the remaining contract value.

If a player is bought out and is 26 or older, the team pays the player two-thirds of the remaining contract value.

The buyout amount is spread out over twice the remaining years of the contract.

Signing bonuses are excluded from buyouts.

So how many years does KD give Soderblom? Goaltending especially lately in the NHL is so fickle. I for one thought the 2 years for Mrazek was a good deal, that obviously didn't age well. Does KD go one year or 2? Hopefully Comesso will be ready after 2 more seasons in the A (or depending on injuries getting some NHL exposure during that time.

BTW both Vegas goaltenders are not signed to NHL contracts next year, maybe KD can finagle a Mrazek trade to Vegas, but probably will need a third party to take some salary retention.

I don't think 2 years for Mrazek aged poorly. He's not playing great right now, but was earlier this year. He's fine at his number. Yes, he likely would need retention to get moved but that's beside the greater point.

I think Soderblom gets 2 years. That seems to be KD's MO (Reichel, Kurashev). I'm sure there are a couple teams that would be interested in Mrazek, but the return is going to be a hair better than future considerations at best.

Listening to a bunch of NHL talking heads, sounds like there isn't much movement in the trade department because many teams are waiting to see if Rantanen is going to be available? 4 days left

Has KFC said anything publicly about the trade? I haven't seen any articles as of yet.

Yes. He sat down with Boyle - part of this podcast https://www.chsn.com/vide...s/bb_030225-1740963919070

Powers also had an article on it on the 1st with quotes, but not sure if it was an interview.

If a second contender is having issues trying to sign him, seems like Rantanen might be the issue. I think it's a small red flag right now and I think scouts/GMs are watching closely and scrutinizing his play to try to determine how much of his mediocre (by his standards) play since the trade is valid or at all concerning. I don't know one way or another, but have to wonder if he is being reasonable with his value.

I’m dying to see what happens with Rantanen. He doesn’t have a whole lot of options. He wants to play for a contender but he also wants a big pay day. Most contenders don’t have the cap space except for Carolina. If he’s not careful he may wind up on a bottom feeder.

Just going to put this out there - I wouldn't be too surprised if the Hawks trade Soda. I wouldn't love it, but he is playing better and has a much easier contract to move. Obviously it would depend on the return, but I could see it happening. Mrazek and Knight next year, re-sign Knight and maybe Commesso is finally ready for backup duty in two years.

Wouldn't the Leafs have the space if they let both Marner and Tavares go? And still have enough to pay Knies?

I don't see KD doing that just because he's the best goal tender on the team right now. He's traded away plenty of young assets, as you've said we have plenty of draft capital. It's time to let the young players oust the older ones.

I wonder if Florida will make a run at him, now that Tkachuk is on LTIR.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Soderblom is moved either, but I too would not like it. I would rather move Mrazek, however that most likely require retention. Rantanen was playing with a world class center in Denver, maybe playing with Bedard will do them both good, however I doubt he comes to the Hawks. Rantanen and a decent 2nd line center would make the Hawks respectable next year.

Sure they would, but I really don't think they are going to let them walk. As it stands now, they have about $64 committed for next year, but more than half of their forwards are either UFA or RFA (7 currently signed for next year). With about $28M, I think they push hard to sign Marner and get Knies under contract, then populate the rest of the roster with filler like they always do. I think Tavares moves on.

I don't think it would be surprising either. I think Soda has more trade value right now than Mrazek and Brossoit, given the performance this year. They have to figure it out, because 4 goalies is too much, depending on when Brossoit returns. Probably Soda would be taken on waivers if they try to send him down. Mrazek/Brossoit would probably clear based on the AAV of their cap. I wonder if maybe Brossoit won't return this season, because I can't see them keeping 4 guys.

Ala Scott Borass in baseball, they were likely pissed he wouldn't bid up their players just as Borass berated the genius Epstein during the Cubs tank.

Yeah, I don't think Brossoit is coming back this year. No one's even seen him near the ice. Wit-Sec should hire the Hawks on how to hide witnesses for high profile court cases.
