You missed the point. Also, I said “if” - Chunk
I didn't miss the point, I'm just being realistic.
You always say you only want a guy signed for 4 years max, you do realize he or any other prominent player in the league at a young age won't sign with us unless it's for at least 7 years.

Future watch
First goals today
Raaty, L’Heroux
Against Blackhawks Leterimaki his first
No stopping Overchkin?
How many goals will he get this season if he remains healthy? Over 40 he is on pace for over 50 but he won’t keep up this pace. McMichael with 12 already which is one less than Ovechkin
Who more goals this season: Ovechkin or Caufield? Can both stay healthy. Panarin has 23 points in 15 gp

... And at the Rosemont in - I guess a couple of days (going by my time right this second I think it is tomorrow) ... the cast of Shoresy is playing the Blackhawks alumni.
And point taken about age and being sent to the A. I did miss that earlier (apologies) early morning posting -probably too early. |

I was at the Rockford/Wolves game today. Sat three rows behind the visitors bench.
Other than Savoie, Laggert and Nazar, if anyone thinks there is a useful forward on this Icehogs team, they are fooling themselves.
I'll say one thing about the other ten forwards that dresses for whatever that was, they could fit in with the pro team in that none of them could make a pass to a teammate, or receive one cleanly. 🤮🤮🤮

I say that knowing it's not realistic. Just pie in the sky for me.
The point about the Rantanen comment was not that he would be available. The point was that if a player of that ilk becomes available, and you have the cap and roster space, you need to take advantage, because with the cap going up those players will be less available going forward. |

I guess the good news is that the only other drafted forwards that played last night were Hayes and Dach.
Too bad you didn't get to watch Nazar. From the games I've seen he's worth the price of admission. |

I don't disagree but what i don't want to happen is you got Kadri, Marner, Nylander and Matthews in the system then sign Tavares to a mega deal. Oh and Rielly
1-3-1-3-2
Looks like we might have another top 5 pick this year
So let's just say
Bedard gonna get paid
One of
Hagens, Martone, Misa, McQueen
Arty
Korchinski
Nazar
It's going to add up fast and I'm glad we have Vlasic in the fold.
Puts a smile on my face when i look at other teams drafts and how KD has been brilliant in loading up. |

Two sacks, it's looking totally bleak and two rookies take us down field. No way Fields does that. - rpeters01
Agree and he never did as a Bear. Was nice to see with a competent play caller, Williams getting back on track.
That's two games he's engineered what should've been game winning drives only to be thwarted by the defense, special teams and his HC. |

What's a "game winning drive?" I've never seen one. Actually, he had two game winning drives in Washington if you count the Kramer fumble. |

Eberloser, gonna write a book on how many ways to lose a game.
I kept thinking how do you settle for a 46 yard field goal

The main point I think you're (and probably others) are missing, is that - on an individual basis, this is far more about hiring a proctologist as an assistant coach - for instances when star boy needs to pull his head out of his rectum - because frankly it can apply sometimes. Sure Rock is extreme - but it also is - about look, if you want the kid to develop alongside guys he is probably actually going to be playing with in the future - that is the only way that really can happen. - SC116
Putting a player who is nearly a ppg player (struggling mind you) in Rockford is silly. Developing guys together so they can come up together is silly as well.
Guys should be on the team when they can compete at the NHL level. |

So you don’t care for players who aren’t strong defensively yet you’re suggesting they trade for Zegras who isn’t any better, and could be weaker defensively than the three you bring up? - paulr
Now you're just picking and choosing things from my comments. Please read the whole thing and understand the context.
Reichel, Donato and Kurashev - for example - have nothing to offer on either end of the puck because they are bad hockey players. They are useless without the puck on their blade, have terrible hockey sense, and are bad positionally on both sides of the ice.
This not only makes them consistently ineffective players attacking the goal BUT it also makes them liabilities going the other way.
On a good team they have no place. On a mediocre team maybe they can go out and bum slay put in 10-15 goals and have everyone wondering why they never actually made it.
Zegras is a very good player who is young and has some defensive lapses but he is excellent off the puck and with it, creative and difficult for other teams to handle defensively. Huge difference with the level of talent and outcomes.
He's also a smart enough player that he probably figures out how to play good enough defense eventually while the other players I mentioned have shown that they don't have the brain. |

Washington aren’t winners, their sole purpose this season is to get Ovie to break Gretzky’s record. Strome isn’t what the Hawks need long term. - paulr
Pretty sure they are going to make the playoffs and a 100 point player is a 100 point player (which Strome is on pace for).
Also 65 ish points which he's had the last two years is better than anything else the Hawks have run out.
He's not the fastest skater in the world but he is a good hockey player, constantly in the right position, reading the play at a very high level, a fantastic passer and he finishes in front of the net.
Kinda sounds like a player most teams would benefit from. |

You can’t have an entire team of the same guy. You need some size, a good amount of speed, lots of skill, some that concentrate mostly on defense, others you can coun ton to be able to generate chances on a whim.
These players come in many forms. I do t think you can say that you can’t win with “x” player. The Hawks won with Timonen FFS. And Handzus, and Versteeg, and a host of other flawed players that worked well together. - Chunk
Timonen played like 4 mins a game because Keith skated well over 30 and was the difference that year.
Zues and the second coming of Verbeauty you could get away with because Patrick Kane was so special of a player it didn't matter who you put him with.
The Hawks have no one comparable on the blue line to be that difference maker or at forward other than Bedard and even Kane had Toews, Sharp, Hossa\Havlat to lighten the load. |

Let’s see what Chicago have when he does hit the market. If Chicago need a forward and can afford him, fine. But If Chicago need defensemen or goalies they can’t make the same mistake the leafs did and sign a position player they don’t really need, like Toronto did with Tavares when what they needed were defensemen.
Besides when a player starts whining about playing time and his lot on another team, I don’t think they need that kind of attitude to potentially poison what they are trying to build. - paulr
The Hawks aren't 3 top 15 players in the league deep though. It's a completely different situation.
They have guys that project as contributors. They don't have guys that project as 90-120 point players or 60 goal scorers other than Bedard. |

They don't have anyone remotely comparable to Marner or Nylander except maybe Nazar since he's putting up better numbers than Nylander did in the AHL but other wise it's just athletes.
They've loaded up on fast guys who can fill out a roster not really top end talent at forward since they've burnt those other top 10 picks on defenders.
Maybe they pull a STL and have drafted a Thomas, Thompson and Kyrou in two years but that isn't very likely.
And if they do end up having a roster full of what look like contributors even if they filled out the roster already with trades \ signings - then they can move those assets for futures so they can hopefully reload in 5-7 years.
Look at all the "talent" and assets Florida, Vegas, Colorado, Vancouver, LA, Carolina and Tampa Bay have come off and they're the best teams in the league and constantly in the mix.
Florida built around Barkov and Eklbad and went out and got everyone else. How sad are they that they traded Owen Tippet (for a trade that didn't work) who by all accounts seems to be a pretty good hockey player? Or trading for TheChuck even though they lost a very good defender, productive forward and first round pick?
How sad are the Knights that they moved a few highly regarded prospects and a 2nd for Mark Stone?
Unless Kyle is a moron like Dubas (which I think he's pretty much proven he's an idiot) getting guys shouldn't be detrimental if they've done a decent job identifying what they need its just a matter of having the confidence to make the move.

Line blender doesn't even begin to describe this lineup.
I didn't realize Hall was scratched against Vancouver. Does he have anything left at this point, after all the injuries? I know ACL surgery recovery is more psychological where he's at now. But he has the shoulder injury history, also. I have to wonder if he hangs it up after this year, if that's what's going on with him now.

My point is they were all drafted and they were all top 10 picks. It took them about 8 years.
Bedard 1
Arty 2
KK 7
2025 pick.
4th year of picking in the top 10.
And Nazar has a 60% chance
Moore, Rinzel, Boisvert, Vanacker, 2025 first from Leafs give you a 50% chance of being pros, i like KDs odds
You've got Vlasic, Allan and Kaiser
And if Reichel is beginning to show flashes.
All those teams other than Vegas tried to build through the draft but many of them failed miserably. I just can't believe you want to abandon the rebuild already. I still think it's fun that LA traded away Faber because they were in a rush to be relevant, signed PLD then traded him away. What a mess great they will make a playoff run again, then the Oilers will probably send them home again.

I thought LR was the great communicator?
Ben Pope
@BenPopeCST
Taylor Hall on getting scratched Saturday:
“It was unexpected. I just didn’t know I was even close to being in that spot, really. If there were some conversations in the days leading up about my game, or if I was constantly being shown video, it would be one thing. But I was a bit surprised.”
He added that he and Luke had a conversation and are on the same page now. He is playing tomorrow against Anaheim. |
