Lol it’s not just Bedard. It’s most of the team. Desperately need a real coach.

I might throw up if I see 1 opposing forward successfully forecheck against 3 hawks in the DZone again.

- bhawks2241

2241, I've found your hockey thoughts to be solid. Be honest with yourself about Bedard. Kid has a shot from hell that he can't get off without help and that is it. ...... The Phenom is learning things they're teaching 8 yr olds at any local rink and the poor SOB has to learn them in the Bigs probably with a 15 mil per organIzational crippling cap hit.

The Phenom is up against it and I think a person like you understands that. Poor kid had the worst defensive metrics the fancy stat Dom guy at The Athletic has ever calculated last yr going back to when he started doing so in 2006.

For the kid to hit 100 pts he has to play a style where he's on the ice for 180 goals against.

Indeed they do. Moore, Nazar, Bertuzzi, and Slaggert had good games from the forward group, Donato not so much this game. Donato has had a great year and gives maximum effort, however I’m leery of an overpay, especially in term. JMHO

Convinced it’s coaching. These guys have played hockey their entire lives and they look clueless on the ice. Guys in the same spot. Two guys following the puck carrier. Guys standing around watching not seeming to know what to do.

Oh def not an excuse Bedard needs to figure it out but there needs to be a coach that actually coaches him. He can’t learn by himself.

He’s not the only forward on the roster with bad habits.

He also needs to play at full speed. He needs to skate with the puck and make plays at full speed. He can. I’ve seen it. This isn’t Jrs you can’t slow down all the time and think you have time to make plays.

It's been about 20 yrs, maybe just 15, since my last tasty Blue Moon. If watching The Phenom "play hockey" last yr didn't send me to the liquor store I think I'm safe.

That's my way of saying no but man I'm damn giddy since the confederecy got Trumpanzee in office. He's my dream, the absolute all encompassing messiah cancer I've dreamed of that will get NY, IL and the 6th largest economy on EARTH, lib CA, to stop paying federal tax and starve parasitic AlabamaStan, MississippiStan, LouisianaStan and their neighbors.

Stop it. And I'm the guy 25 games in LAST yr that said this kid is exactly what a jrs hockey player looks like before he is benched then watched 64 posters come screaming to his defense. Don't see much of that anymore. ..... Remember, 2241?

I anin't no scout but have had my eyes on live jrs games for 15 yrs. Don't need to be a scout to make that observation.

I'll say this, Rinzel was damn scary bad defensively as an 18 and 19 yr old in the USHL. But 2 yrs with 1st rate coaching at WTL of the USHL and 2 yrs at U of MN and you see the kid now! ....... He took the coaching, stayed in the USHL another yr after being drafted then stayed 2 yrs at U of MN instead of 1, was honest with his own game and you see him now.

Someone did get to Bedard though. I posted after his first preseason shift when the kid stuck his nose in at his OWN endwall instead of hanging at center ice waiting for "someone else" to get him the puck that he's different than last yr. Then as the yr went on posted I've never seen the kid below both endlines on the SAME shift and see that most every game this yr when I never ever ever saw him do that last yr.

I've found that is a tell watching jrs kids live for 15 yrs. .. Someone got to the kid at 19, you can't be on the ice for 100 goals while giving up 200. He's trying but he stinks without the puck and 75% of the time with it and is so far behind in so many ways. Kid is literally learning things they teach 8 yr olds..... But that shot!! Never saw anything like it.

So what kind of coach should KD hire? One that has won with kids but has no pro playing or coaching experience (Carle), one that has won as a pro coach but not in the NHL (Nelson), stay with the organizational hire ( Sorenson) or someone who has NHL coaching experience (Sullivan if available, Claude Julien, Gerard Gallant for example)

lol I’m not arguing Bedard has a lot of things to fix and I remember 🤣

He’s 19 so plenty of time. He’s trying to play a more complete game it’s just ugly a lot of the time. Year 3 is a big year for him. He needs some explosiveness to his game.

Love Rinzel. Moore surprising me. Thought he’d need a few Rockford years.

Yep!! Was just about to post the exact same thing. If KD and Crew gets the next coach wrong it could be anywhere from catastrophic to an error that costs the franchise a couple yrs of stagnation with a team full of 23 yr olds.

GMing ain't easy, man. ........... But since Jones was 86ed, Brody has been sat down, all kid Dmen, Knight took the net the club is pleasing to the eye for up to 45-50 minutes but they are extremely inconsistent.

I don't care how blue chip a prospect is, especially Dmen, if you have 11ish 23 and unders playing in an NHL game there will be inconsistency and funk. To expect anything else is just not being realistic.

I hate politics. Especially on a blog like this. But if I'm going to be continually subjected to it, why don't you critique a chick who had a bildo in the war chest and a few months later is 20 milly in the hole. My ex-wife couldn't even do that ffs! That is EXACTLY what this country does not need. Not that it needs the other knucklehead either. They are horsesh!t both ways. But that's the way it is. Back to hockey.

I don't think the over pays are happening anymore unless it's a premium player.

To me i can just see a disconnect in how this team plays defense and i believe that comes from all the kids in the line up.

For me i let them play out the season, coach them up and then hire the new coach and let him figure it out.

I hire the guy from Denver.

It sucks to see them lose but it's great to see all these kids on the ice.

Listening on the radio tonight, amazing how many penalties are not called for the kids, Wiedeman and Murray had quite a few calls like that tonight

Right on to the bolded and my honest apologies for dragging the blog through my unrestrainable euphoric fever dreams. I'm so giddy and have waited for decades for this possibility I lose control of myself.

I missed the 1st and 2nd periods and am watching a replay from the 10 minute mark of the 2nd. What's up with Moore? Kid is making skill plays all over the place. Rinzel is showing as much or more poise than Vlasic who is probably better than we all realize. It might be years before I understand Knight is a Hawk. In the 15 yrs following the USHL he's the 2nd best ever goalie prospect on my board. Who had Del Mastro playing legit NHL hockey this soon, if ever? I planted my flag on Kaiser his first NHL game cuz I saw his first USHL game. Kid Just. Makes. Plays. And always has. Period. .... I doubt we realize how interesting 6ft 8in Crevier is to the NHL types. You gonna bet on Nazar as a 24, 26, 29 yr old after what he's shown so far? How many breakaways and odd mans does his speed and reads allow him a game with only 21 NHL games under his belt. He ever play soft or scared or stick wave forecheck? ... As great as Rinzel has looked Artie is more powerful in every aspect of the game. They're finally allowing KK to develop properly. Yea, most. if not all will say enough of Reichel. But he's 22 yrs old, had 10 game stretches of solid to good NHL hockey as a 20-21 yr old. The kid's skills still have me interested to see how he'll play under a new coach. I watched Smaltz play USHL perimeter soft USHL hockey for 2 yrs and when they drafted him immediately posted noooooo. How's he look today? Might the same thing happen with Reichel under a new coach with a slightly NHL seasoned Nazar, Misa, Moore, a FA or two, a trade or two, maybe Greene with Kantserov, Boisvert, Vanacher, Lardis on the way with 2 1st rd picks and 2-3 2nd rd picks this yr and next as the next wave? Didn't the Dman they got from UT just win SHL Dman of the yr???

And those hype machine idiots last yr saying Bedard's generational, look at that Michigan he pulled off as he played the worst hockey without the puck that models have ever seen going back to 2006.

Then this yr the kid playing center, which is complete malfeasance, and with new linemates every other game, is obvious to a novice he's trying to learn 2 way hockey, to be a hockey player, which he never ever ever has done, at the cost of points and the same goof idiots make a stand saying WTF!! ,,,, The WTF should have been said last yr not this.

And in what world do you make a 30 yr old a first time GM with his overseer being Danny Boy Wirtz??????????????? ..... Well, how's KD done stockpiling picks and the scouting done as we watch their prospects hit the NHL with 2 more waves on the way?

Yea, let's talk some hockey.

About KD. I think he has done well so far. 7 of 8 of his 1st rd picks have played in the NHL. Boisvert is the only one who hasn't at this point. Signed Vlassic to a long term team friendly contract. Has done well on his trades, especially the Jones trade. Traded for Weber so he doesn't have to overpay fossils next year to hit the cap floor. Only possible issue I have is "sentimentality". Will he trade one of his picks for a piece the team needs? We shall see

I feel compelled to share a new podcast with Big John Howell and Rick Tellender I just stumbled on called The Chicago Smokehouse (cuz Howell digs smoking cigars). Been a fan of Big John's for a long time when he did radio. Sharp dude. .. Tellender has been writing about Chicago sports for 30 yrs and has 10 books published.

Anyway, they talk Chicago sports telling a lotta behind the scenes stories that any Chicago fan, young or old, would enjoy. I recommend starting with the episode on Mike Ditka.
