Anyone read the article from Powers?
Blackhawks’ future roster and salary cap, Part 2: Projecting pieces through 2030 https://www.nytimes.com/a...d-roster-salary-cap-2030/
This guy really expects every draft pick the Blackhawks drafted to be part of this team going forward?
To all of the LardAss fans - He is putting up huge numbers because he is in his 4th year in the OHL. I admit,it is better to see a prospect scoring rather than pulling a Mark McNeil, but his scoring doesn't guarantee anything.
The odds of both Korch and Arty panning out and becoming top pairing or 1 becoming a top pairing and the other a 2nd pairing Dman is mininal. Odds are 1 of them becomes a stud and the other a journeyman, or 1 of them becomes a good Dman and the other has a Cam Barker career.
The Blackhawks need to make a few moves, whether trades or free agency to not become the next Buffalo,Utah,Detroit etc...
And the people on X, claiming that prospects need to "over ripen" in the AHL are nuts .
The "Dallas" model with Stankoven and Johnston "works" because....they are good ,not because they spent extra time in the AHL + the Stars are a good team. |

Why not just trade all the prospects for a bunch of journeymen to make the team a .500 club. That oughta make the impatient ledge dwellers happy. - paulr

Kyle Davidson believes it’s time for the rebuild to take a step forward and does not intend to finish near the bottom of the standings again.
So was KD just gaslighting?

Those 2 have quality pros to play along with, this really isn't comparing apples to apples. Isn't Stanky considered a rookie this year at 21? |

This guy gets it. Team should be firmly in a playoff spot in year 2 or 3 of the rebuild (depending on your def of when it actually began). I mean look at what Stevie Y has done with the Wings. |

Can’t complain about the defense, big time improvement over last year. As much as people complain about Brodie, he’s definitely an upgrade over Tinordi and Megna. Kaiser looks better with each game and Vlasic is Vlasic. Now for the elephant in the room, how do they create more offense? First I’m going to beat the dead horse, start by getting Anderson off Bedard’s line, immediately. This is probably the team that we’ll see until the TDL, so make it more watchable for us fans. |

Kyle is learning a valuable lesson here, you just can't buy wins.
And yet that's what everyone wants him to do. |

First of all...no. I doubt Powers thinks that and is only really speaking of knowns vs speculating about possible trades or FA acquisitions.
Second, I can't speak to X or fans wanting players to over-ripen but my guess is you'll see guys up when they think they are ready. Very likely I think you'll see Nazar and Slaggert getting regular mins at some point this season. |

Agreed good players tend to be good fairly quickly. Sharp was an anomaly. There are always exceptions. For example, I still contend Reichel does not have an NHL body. Hopefully, more time will tell. |

Believe what you want. Unlike some I see improvement, Reichel who many wanted to see gassed has improved and continues to improve. Vlasic, who one poster felt was overpaid, has improved to the point he is the second best defenseman on the team and a case can be made he’s the best. Bedard’s overall positioning and defense has improved from last season. Lots of grief about Taylor Hall but it seems the same posters forget he’s just come off major surgery that a twenty something year old needs 20 to 30 games to get his groove back, and he’s not twenty something. The moves made by Davidson has dramatically improved the defensive game of the club. And the guy who can’t coach has the team playing good solid defensive hockey. Many forget the coach’s first job isn’t to have the team scoring or to have the best power play, but to have the whole team playing strong defensively.
There is something called process, which is a methodical approach, in this case to building the team. The process is about making the smart moves to try to make a winning club. Sometimes results don’t follow the process early in the rebuild. But so long as smart analytical moves are made while drafting, if there’s a solid development path implemented, so long as the GM understands the value of the players and that good cap management is established and followed the results will follow.
The past two seasons Davidson INTENDED to finish at the bottom. This season he didn’t INTEND to fall to the bottom but sometimes results don’t follow the process as it’s not a linear progression. |

Actions speak louder than words. Did he really improve the team significantly? Nobody here thought so after the free agent signing period.

Hall has a get out of jail card at the end of this season (he doesn't need to come back... sure points sell - but he has some options)- so it isn't overly relevant if he is able to assist getting himself traded. I mean if it is that, and it might be- I think he's right - I hadn't noticed him being anything but a solid winger - he isn't a shut down winger, never was ... but really if LR is going to point fingers and start sitting people -- frankly he has a lot of choices - and if he doesn't own that as being the situation -he's -well, I guess, I think he's mistaken. I know he can take me - so ... I am not going there. I think he has to know it though ... - SC116
I think he was holding on to the puck too long and giving it away after gaining entry, trying to do stuff he could get away with 10 years ago vs just getting the puck deep and pursuing it with the rest of the team. Somewhat related to the JT Miller - were not good enough to seam passes - comment LR made the other day.
In his defense he doesn't have anyone else that is competent to give the puck to so wtf should we realistically expect?
In LR's defense you can only coach the team you have. Guys with talent and some hockey sense seem to be doing ok (on the blue line anyway).
He's trying to win games so I'll give him some credit for pushing buttons to try and get that done with a poopty team. On the other hand, I think at this stage, just getting Bedard going should be the priority and sticking him between TT and Hall and let your theoretically best players figure it out together.
I do think being with Anderson and jRichard will help in the short term just because JD seems to have some finish and him and Anderson are good enough off the puck to win it and cover defensively.
But if he's going to be a center long term, he kind of has to take his bumps and figure it out as well.
Not an easy job and the lack of talent certainly complicates things. |

Or we can blow up all the models and be very aggressive in accumulating as many 1st round draft picks as we can. 10 in 4 years? 2nd and 3rd rounds draft the best skilled skaters in the draft. |

That is my point.
Stankoven was ready as a 20 year old.
Someone isn't ready until they are 24/25 years old.
The idea that a player must spend a season in the AHL to become "NHL ready" is dumb. I see a lot of Blackhawks quacks claiming that Nazar and Korch both need to spend the entire season in the Ahl so they will be ready for next year?? Which makes no sense.
A player is ready when he's ready.

I meant someone is ready when they are 20 and another player needs time to develop and isn't a contributor until he's 24/25.
I know X isn't the be all end all of hockey, but I like to read NhL stuff there and when I see comments that Nazar (or insert any prospect name) needs to spend a year in the Ahl to learn what it takes to play in the NHL....well, I get pissed.
