I have to bring this up about Phillips.....
Has there been any evidence in his games played in the NHL and AHL this season of better reactions decisions effectiveness defending and advancing the puck out of his end of the ice. Clearly KD wants to see improvement else he is.not going to last probably.beyond this season or sooner in the NHL wearing g a Blackhawks crest - jhawk59
JHawk, Phillips is like a 6th rd pick allowed to play AHL a couple yrs early cuz of the Covid shutdown. A swing if you will. ..... But he showed athleticism and some jump in his feet and showed me skilled hands in the NHL. Fantastic to see out of a big 6th rounder.
Then showed he wasn't overwhelmed on a historically bad Hawks club and looks like a legit fringe 3rd pairing NHLer. Some day this big athletic kid is gonna be 25-26 and a real man who showed as a 6th rd pick he's coachable and will work to get to the level he has. I could easily see some NHL GM's thinking this kid is gonna be a solid at least depth NHL guy.
In short kid checks a lotta boxes. No surprise if is at least a depth NHL athletic Dman with size.

Added an empty netter. 8 goals and 3 assists in his last 3 games.
He was +2 with 8 shots on goal. |

And no JHawk, I can't say that Phillips has taken any perceivable jump from the tiny sample size this yr. In fact, I saw him take 2-3 bad angles which I hadn't seen out of him.......
To me has some nuance to his game and taking good angles is a part of that. |

D!ckinson with Frank and Bedard would be a great line.
Just the one game with D!ckinson and Bedard played faster. Add someone like Nazar and I think we'd see what he could do. - captainserious
When we were all talking about the lines possibility just as the puck was to drop on the season I posted I thought Smith would be first to get a shot at L1 with Bedard once the juggling started based on his preseason.
He looked good in the preseason and that has carried over. One thing you never have to wonder about him, he will shoot and ain't scared to do so... Never realized how dogged he was on the puck. I'm a fan.

They both have been impressive in their short tenure, although they better start working on playing the right side if they want to stick around. |

It was funny he pointed out he was too low on the early play in the 2nd than a bunch of compliments after that on Vlasic, the compliments far out weight the criticisms. |

fatty, you and I are on opposite sides of the development process. I understand you see little to no value for most prospects in the process of playing AHL and I do.
Really like what I've seen from Vlasic after the AHL and love what Del Mastro, Phillips, Crevier have developed into. ...... Love the hands and purpose I see outa Ludwinski in yr 2 so far and how Nazar's game has moved forward in a big way and that they are tying up loose ends in his game hoping that will allow him to transition to the Bigs as seamlessly as possible. As a Slaggert guy love that the suffocating game he plays is better and more consistent and professional looking at RKF.
On the edge of my seat to see how far and quickly Levshunov develops in even 10 game segments after seeing him be near raw in his first couple AHL games I saw remembering how well low picks like Del Mastro, Phillips and Crevier developed into legit NHL 3rd pairing possibilities and the jump Vlasic made after a yr at RKF..
And soon enough Lardis and Spellacy will be the NEXT wave coming to the AHL.
Yea man, I guess I'm one of the few who is diggin how this rebuild is going and the process which has the AHL a huge part of it. - Mr Ricochet

Love that Allan has jumped over Phillips in the depth chart. As a guy who likes Phillips, Allan too going back to jrs, tells me there is real depth and competition starting to occur in the system.
Then we start to think of Rinzel and Levshunov coming. The kid outa London, Henry, a quicker type Phillips, that will get on everyone's radar when he gets to RKF might be legit.
How bout holding on to the lead over FLA in the 3rd without D!ckinson. 2 shifts in the 2nd, been out since. The Greek said he looked back and a shift before he took a shot to his hand. .......... Big big win if they get it. Hopefully the Hockey Gods agree they're due for a bounce.
FLA structure is so so good and with Barkov, Bennet, Lusterainen as their centerman, Reinhardt, Verheage floating around they are a beast... Gotta use the same amount of energy just to get a puck out as it takes to climb a mountain.

I'm just aware there is a numbers game on defense and I also see several prospects who may only have third pair depth projection. If he stays then I don't mind he plays most of the time in AHL. I like his tools set too and would like to see if he could get pushed or motivated to play a more physical brand consistently- the incentive is regular playing time if he adds this element. Some dmen may arrive.and keep going back down until either they never get any farther or at age 26 (or pick a an age after many years pro exlerience) they finally stick in the NHL.
His journey is not chiseled in stone as predetermined but I am just wondering how all the dmen "play out.
" And next season I am curious whether the pair from Providence (in Hockey East) is signed. Harding is the big name of that pair |

Really have to like the mindset of Donato this season. He isn't doing anything cute or extra, just everything is at the net. Jam the puck at the net, shoot it. I wish more of the Hawks forwards played with that mentality. |

He did get all of that one --- the ballpark was never gonna hold it ... Holy Cow!!
Still worth 2 minutes in the box, and I am sure he felt shame. . . and then he got free. |

Good for the boys...... Thought this was Anderson's worst game. Unusually he was really unaware and that's a huge part of his limited skill game. Twice he was surprised along the wall by a Dman when he's GOT to get a puck out. |

Mrazek had to stay on his toes and made some saves but at least the team wasn't hanging him out to dry. All five Hawks collapsing and protecting the dangerous areas, clearing away the rebounds Mrazek was giving up. Kind of a team defense win by just getting sticks in the way and clearing pucks out of danger. |

Maybe I am sure the put Bedard on wing, with 16 and 22 might look good to the coach, but for my money, it just seemed to have robbed Bedard of a good deal of his creative dynamism.
Nice win. I believe it that Bedard is putting a ton of pressure on himself - so if this is about working out how he can take a load off, mentally - ok, I guess I can understand that.
