Pretty good analysis.

I've been in Hagens camp since World Jrs.

Apparently the Isles owners want Hagens. In the unlikely event the owners override the new GM, that ensures Misa is available when Chicago picks.

I hope Mitch Marner’s ghost show the last seven games ensures KD steers completely clear of him on July 1. Marner will be asking for at least $14M over seven years with full trade protection.

In seven games against Florida not one of the core six were the best player or even best leaf player in any one of those games. Matthews played pretty well defensively but doesn’t have the stomach to get in the dirty areas of the ice and compete. Marner is completely terrified, he’s easily pressured to get rid of the puck before being hit. Nylander is still circling around hoping to get a breakaway pass. Reilly never lived up to the promise of being a top pair defenseman, he’s average offensively and below average defensively. And Tavares is just old and worn out. Looks like Treliving will be doing a big retool this summer.

I do feel though the Hawks will be related to wherever Marner signs by taking a skilled salaried player back to offset the $14M like if he signs with VGK.

It will be a very unpopular opinion here, but if I am KD, I am calling Toronto about Matthews.

Hawks having the 3 overall and Toronto's 1st could make things very interesting.

No thanks. I’m guessing you didn’t watch Matthews’ annual ghost show. Nine years in a row he follows up great regular seasons with playoff no shows. He was even a no show in the four nations tournament.

The problem is that the package to get him probably starts with #98 going to Toronto. They aren't a rebuilding team, they aren't going to give us a good deal on a guy with 400+ goals who probably has another ~500 left before he is done.

Just saying, it's a different story if his contract was going to be expiring and there were indications he was not going to be signing an extension, but we'd be buying Matthews in the peak of his career. I would think Bedard + Rinzel + multiple picks including this years 3rd overall and that still might not even get it done.

I’d be surprised if the Hawks actually draft someone at #25. I expect KD will either move up in the draft or trade for immediate help.

Lightning assistant Jeff Blashill isn’t just the only name firmly linked to the Blackhawks’ vacancy this summer; he’s becoming the clear favorite for the role, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on today’s 32 Thoughts podcast. Talk around the league sprouted up aggressively this week after Blashill canceled an interview he had with another club about their opening.

I was not too happy clicking. I expected a brooklyn podcast where th Isles owner was praising the homegrown talent in general or SOMETHING indicating he really was wanting Hagens at #1
Instead I got to see Blackhawk channel homers with little new to contribute, just feeling Pat Boyle- like, like when he commeted on the then Boston college prospect Commesso as our next number one goalie.

I need more to convince we have a chance getting Misa.

Todd Nelson's Hershey team is down 2-0 in their series vs Charlotte. They play game 3 on Wed night.

Yep. He was not good. He also racks up a lot of points having Matthews burying pucks, which a lot of guys can do.

I actually thought Nylander was pretty good in the playoffs this year. One of the only Leafs using his speed.

Tavares was a ghost. He's just too slow and really offers nothing defensively. Let Marner go. Try and move Tavares. Sign Sam Bennett and get a legit Top 4 on the backend.

Knies and Matthews is a good 1st line. You can find someone to play with them that won't break the bank. Nylander can drive play on the 2nd line, if he has a Sam Bennett type doing the dirty work.

Leafs could not handle Panters depth in the end. Especially with Tavares and Marner being pretty meh for big name stars. Tavares 2 goals in game 3 and absolutely nothing else that series. That line could not generate anything the last 4 games. Nylander looked dangerous with the puck at time but that is about it.

Sorry, didn't realize CHGO wasn't in the link title.

I'm not going to get in a debate with you about who's analysis is good and bad, you know these folks much better than me.

Just that i thought their point about Hagens is too small all of a sudden to be good at hockey was spot on. Also to say that the Hawks need bigger players also, so if they went a Martone, it would be understandable.

Common theme amongst most, Hawks will get a good player at 3

That was the guy on the left's opinion -the 'too small' angle, however the guy on the right mentioned Rinzel, who was not 6 foot 4 when drafted. And given the weight at that age, basically you're looking at an average sized guy.

The size thing is a beat up. It is a little short-sighted to say stuff like 'well, we got enough guys like that in the system already'. Ok, taking that at face value, then isn't the conventional logic that if that is even the case, then eventually you move the one that is the least effective. Or in short, I don't actually get the arguments some make.

Spencer Knight is well ahead of Commesso.
- rpeters01

Unless there is a significant change I expect Knight to be the Hawks #1 goalie for the next decade (ish). I’d be more than happy if either Commesso or Gajan emerged as the #1. That would be a good problem but I don’t expect it.

At the draft, Misa remains my pick for the Hawks at #3 if he’s there. If not I’m leaning towards Desnoyers then Frondell. I’d be happy with either one of those guys. I’d be fine with Hagens too, but not quite as happy as the other 2.

At 25 (or higher if the Hawks move up) I’d like Spence or Nesbitt. William Moore at #34 would be a nice pick-up too.
