I don't see the Blackhawks making a trade for a defenseman or goalie, they already got their goalie with the Jones trade

We lack forwards, i think Bedard and Frondell will be top 6 guys. I think Nazar will be a cross of Hagel and Point. So 3 maybe 4 forward spots to fill? Going into the 4th year of the rebuild that's pretty damn good

- BetweenTheDots

I think they’ll make a deal for a veteran d-man to play every 3rd or 4th game. It would be unfair to play too many young d-men.

I guess what i mean is not a premium defenseman. A player that will cost you premium picks.

Are you talking about this year, or as we move forward? They have 2-3 forward spots to figure out this year, and they have four vets on expiring contracts (and I can't seek them bringing back any of them unless Burakovsky just goes off). I'm not sure I'd write anyone's name in ink for the roster next year. I think it'll be a feeling out period for the next couple of years to figure out which guys cut it and which ones they deem moveable.

And it starts. The CHGO clowns are starting to question if KFC needs to be canned. Does anyone know if this guy is Steve from Mopeville?

They don't seem to be too happy

Just realized McTavish is an RFA. So no trade or offer sheet from Kyle.

Entertaining... all of these 'great hockey minds' - completely oblivious to the additional dollar flexibility that higher caps allow other teams - it as if calculations all happen in some bubble where other teams' financial situation doesn't matter or count.

I hear that slapping on a pair of skates, padding up, and getting out on a rink, is a decent way to work through unrequited aggression. Or any other full on activity, apart from sitting on one's ass in front of a mic.

imo this season will tell us more in what direction the Hawks are moving in. Most of the lineup, if no other additions are made, will comprise 25 years old or younger in the lineup. Ok let the kids play let's see the draft and Scouting hard work on the ice and evaluate from there. On another note saw this trade proposal the other day , not mine, kk and 4th from Carolina for reichel.

Carolina really needs a 2nd line center. KK is currently filling that role (even though he is more a 3rd line center). Trading him for Reichel really leaves them with a bigger hole down the middle. They also are $10 mil under the cap so no need to shed Salary. Dont see them making this trade not why hawks would make it.

As we move forward, as you point out several on expiring contracts, if you need to fill a hole possible free agency or a sign and trade. Best case scenario they begin filing the positions from within, fingers crossed

One thing I didn't read before in the new CBA, training camp will be reduced from 21 to 13 days and teams are no longer allowed to put players through fitness tests during camp or the regular season. Takes one thing out of the old school coach's bag of tricks. Have to wonder if in the future the NHLPA will push for players opting out of training or drills they don't like or agree with.

That guy is way too soft on KD to be from leafy and bucolic east Mopeville. He forgot to mention the horrible coaching moves, overpaying 3rd liners while not being able to land a big fish, rushing KK for no reason, making Vlasic UFA in his prime, all while the other GM's steal his lunch money.

KD is probably a nice guy. Jaime Faulkner is probably a nice gal. Neither will be around when the team is approaching .500 in a few more seasons.

What big fish wants to come here now or in the past couple of years as a UFA? What assets did he have to trade for one? I’ll wait…

Since they are negotiating with Connor Bedard I've got to ask, what does his next contract look like? If you were GM what would you pay him and for how many years?

I think Nazar will be more difficult to figure out. Probably wait more than half the season.

Of many of the GMs I've listened to, he's remained consistent. He's said again and again if we make a deal it has to make sense for us today and tomorrow.

So in my book he didn't make the dreaded mistake of signing a Tavares in the middle of a rebuild. 2 more years

Great question. In a couple of years when he has lots of time, KD will write a book about his time as GM and can address the big swings that missed.

As for a few days ago, two teams almost as historically bad as the teams KD has iced were able to convince veterans to sign reasonable deals. I think the Hawks desperately need a solid Dman or 2 to bridge the gap until all the young guys play. I am also of the belief that Murphy will not play 82 games and will not be resigned. Orlov signed with San Jose for 2 years for $6 plus. That is a guy that with more money and another year of term could play minutes against the monster top lines in the West until KK, Lev, and others are ready.

I think the team is very weak in the top 6. I am not convinced there is a legit top 6 guy besides Bedard. Nazar might be the guy but players get figured out and he won't be surprising anyone this year. TT and Bertuzzi would be better suited on a 3rd line. Dvorak is not Marner, but he signed a 1 year deal in Philly. Would a few more dollars and another year have convinced him to come here and get big minutes with Bedard? Kurashev got 18 with Bedard I think Dvorak would do better.

The bell will not ring one day and whoever is GM here will sign 5 top FAs and fleece GM's for 4 players in their prime. I think they need to make incremental steps and improve.

As for trades, the Canadians traded 2 first rounders and a mid level prospect for Dobson and signed him long term. The Hawks used 2 first rounders on 2 guys that realistically won't be competing for roster spots for 3 years at best. Could those picks and more have been packaged to Dallas for Robertson? Where there is smoke there is fire, I think he is available.

There are still lots of prospects in the pipeline but I would have preferred going into the season with some more significant changes at the NHL level than Burakovsky and Lafferty 2. It would also make the team look better to FA next year if any of the big boys last long enough to be bribed to come here.

I want Bedard for all of his prime. Right now he is 60+ point player. You sign him for a 2 year deal at $7 million per and tell him that if he becomes a point a game guy and keeps improving his all around game the next deal will be a max term which will now by 7 years and max dollar deal which will probably be around $20 million at that point making him the highest paid player in the league at that point. Ask him to bet on himself. See what kind of guy he is. Then you will get his best years and he will make as much as any NHL player can dream of.
