All you have to do is fake the shot, he flops and then shoot it 4 inches high over his shoulder.

Gallant whining he didn't get a chicago interview and criticizing Blashill shows why he constantly gets fired. Maybe a great hockey mind but no people skills. Or was that SFG talking about Gallant? I forget...
- rpeters01

Doug Maclean told me at the draft that Gallant called him after Blashill got hired and complained he did not get a call.

I don't know if he criticized Blashill but Blashill is 57 games under NHL .500 with 72 OT losses and won 1 playoff game in 537 games.

Gallant is 107 games over NHL .500 with 70 OT losses and is 31 -29 in 5 playoff years.

I've always thought the NHL was a results oriented business. Maybe it is a people skills business business now.

Gallant historically, while having a winning record, has a history of having a short shelf life. For what reason, i don't know, maybe you do.

I can't see a positive about hiring a coach with a short shelf life right in the middle of the rebuild.

We'll have to wait to see how Blashiell does, i certainly can't predict it, but i just don't think a short shelf life coach is what's needed now.

To me, you hire Gallant when you need to get over the last hump, and you're willing to go with someone you know you may need to fire in 2 to 3 years, but you're OK with it to get a cup

Unrelated to the Draft.

This kid is commesso's back-up, that's all.

Reports that he'll stay in Russia for another season before coming over. Hope Kyle sees something to warrant an ELC for an undrafted backup goalie from the VHL

Actually it's great we won't have to hear how bad Brodie is and how much he's overpaid

Point well taken. Gallant has a short shelf life. He had the reputation of being all motivation and very little x and o's.

They all have short shelf lives. The average tenure is something along the lines of 2.1 years and that was with Sullivan and Cooper's years. Sullivan is back to 0.

Red Wings were very patient with Blashill.

Bedard is now starting his 3rd season with his 3rd head coach. Not sure if that hurts his development or enhances it by having had the opportunity to learn the game from 3 coaches instead of just hearing the same things over and over.

I am afraid that Blashill is set up to fail. The summer isn't over but the roster is very weak. The NHL is not forgiving to young players and "play the kids" sounds great till they lose 5-1 game after game. Perhaps this is the plan. Keep losing and drafting high for a few more seasons and with just average drafting there should be a handful of top 50 type players eventually.

Unlike Gallant or any of the really accomplished retreads, it is hard to picture Blashill marching into Davidson's office and demanding better players or going public with complaints about the roster construction. They have a guy who lost for years and seemingly was content on the 1st and 15th to do it.

Was not excited about Blashiell, have to admit, after i heard him, was better with it, but, it really doesn't matter what i think, it matters what the team does, and probably more, how younger players develop under him.

I'll kind of look at him as the Hawks Ricky Renteria. We'll see.

While we say play the kids, there's still a lot a vets, and admittedly, average ones. Some mix of kids needs to play at some point. I'm assuming most weren't happy with the first couple years of Keith and Seabrook.

I'm someone who was all for this type of rebuild, so i'm patient, but i can understand why others aren't.

I would also add, if Gallant is so great, he'd be employed somewhere in the NHL. There are 32 teams.

GMs generally hire people they feel they can work with. Gallant having to take a taxi when he was fired on the road doesn't help his image as being GM friendly

The guy lasts about 2 or 3 years with an NHL team and then is invited to leave. Agree that he doesn’t really seem like the ideal coach for a rebuild.

The whole league was dumb enough to let the Great Gallant escape to Mother Russia. If the hockey coach thing doesn't work, maybe he'll find success on the front lines against Ukraine, eh?!?

Hope you're well, D. You, too, Paulie, and all the rest of the Hockeybuzz short bussers!

I'll give him one period. First exhibition game of course.
