CLB could very well be on the come, Dots. That fancy stat genius GM they have, (Wadell?) could very well be the real deal and it ain't like the organIzation was deft of legit young talent when he got there.
Lotta fits out there for Trouba if you're realiastic where his game is at at this point of his career. SJ, ANA??? BUF, CHI? LVG?!!!!! - Mr Ricochet
Waddell is a good GM and put together a nice team in Carolina that just hasn't been able to get over the hump.
I think the high end talent potential is better in Columbus. So the core of Fantilli, Johnson and the Russians could produce more I guess elite talent vs very good? Sillinger I think is going to be a decent player and seems to be improving.
He'll manage the cap well there and find some good pieces to fill in. I think Columbus is predicated on if someone like Fantilli hits his ceiling and becomes a dominant 2 way center and Marchenko continuing to grow into that power forward role. |

That is not the issue.
The issue is coaches implementing the neutral zone trap defense are very demanding about structure and effort for it to work, and keep scores down.
Players hate playing it. When you are losing faceoffs like the Blackhawks do, you spending at least 30 seconds of every one minute shift chasing the puck and defending. By the time you get it back, it's the end of the shift, and more times than not, you are dumping the puck in for a change, rinse and repeat.
It's why they have so few shots on goal game after game. I am really hoping Sorensen scraps it for a more offensive strategy, at least for the first two lines. - dahawks8819
The problem with changing is that it's going to open things up and the less dangerous shots are going to star turning into more dangerous ones and I could see it going from 3 GAA to 5 or 6 easily. |

The way i hear it, he's a coaches dream, he does whatever the coach wants him to do.
Didn't Faber go to Minny and he wasn't on the top PP unit? |

Maybe, but I think we will get a better assessment of our young defensemen when they don't have the forwards overplaying in the defensive zone. |

Man it's been awhile ---edited -not that it matters - but fixed my user name there to same as here. Had to use a different avatar - I like this one here ok - it was right before I had gotten an assist -on a really crappy pass (not unlike McMahon's wounded duck passes in the 80's) ... but it worked - now the one I got there is literally the lamest goal I ever scored in my life- I don't even think the shot was 1 mph (it was a pass - rolled up the goalie's stick and in - like a super slow motion Evel Knievel jump toy with a dying battery. I did make the celly count though. :D

Nice work, BM. HF has been around and is a good resource for jrs info. The other site has 2,900 members and do have a Hawks subcategory that doesn't get much action. They posted a thread about LR's firing but the last thread before that was started in April.
Pick one BM and post what you decide and that'll be where we all meet up if this joint goes down the dumper. We can always move on from whichever you pick but we'll at least meet up at whichever site you pick.
Pick one, BM. |

Wouldn’t be surprised if your observation proves to be accurate. I realize that when a player performs with confidance, then we probably see just how good said player actually is. The highest level in hockey (the pinnacle if you will) is to reach the NHL. But once in the NHL the challenge is to thrive and the obstacles to success are many.
Since I really believe that KD feels he has to find a quality linematte (or two) for Bedard and to establish a viable second offensive line, the Blackhawks GM will want to push to see even a glimpse of his prospects performance here [NHL].
Facing pressure to win and to unleash Bedard’s scoring means major transactional activity on a scale larger than what was accomplished last off season. Which could prove beneficial not only for the obvious winning and Bedard current setback, but could “free up” TT and Bertuzzi to succeed as they will not be the primary offensive production.
Surely KD has some chips he doesn’t want to expose or use just yet, but those chips could be put in play as a show me what you (prospects) can do in limited action. So for this application certain prospects may get a cup of coffee towards the end of this season and or an even longer stay and play next season. You know the prospects in Rockford and acclaimed non pro prospects this encompasses
We know that our prospects will have gained a year in developmental time when training camp opens next fall. I am certain the prospects will get additional scrutiny and games in the exhibition tilt.
What concerns me however is whether a top prospect may be traded. Or a first round selection. I could imagine the Toronto first round and our #1 ‘26 offered up but not a top five ‘25 selection. Something of value has to be “sacrificed” in order to improve the quality of the players who will comprise the roster next season…..what could KD offer outside of our prized current NHL level prospects….. yes our future top young assets being previously drafted and futures (first round draft picks)
Ouch. To those of us who want to build as much as possible through the draft again I say “ouch.”
I do not know whether a free agent will be available or that KD could snatch one or two of them. I wouldn’t count on their addition actually. I would expect KD will do some carving besides the Thanksgiving turkey and it will be significant appetite to appease
There really isn’t any other way. I will not suggest names or trades; someone else can conjure up the particulars

Oh I cannot say he won’t be the guy given his ability and desire to become better. What some people say now is that he is lacking and not producing. So maybe generational talent like Crosby could have produced if he were in this spot. With better coaching and better players Bedard will rise up. Now will he be as great as everyone figured he would become back when he was drafted. Maybe not quite as good but you do not waiver to grade him as a disappointment. No, grade the job of the GM and the coach for his less than stellar performance. Bedard will become one really good player …. Just how soon is reliant upon the job KD does to improve both the talent level and his coaching - jhawk59
I don't think Bedard will be a disappointment. I think Bedard will become a really really good player. But not generational and not "the guy". That is why I would sign or trade for a someone who will be "the guy" like Rantanen.

Agree, and they are 2 years away from trading for a Hossa unless a special deal comes along. - vabeachbear
This is a different situation. The Hawks had Kane and Toews to build around. Then they added Hossa to put them over the top. They don't have any players to build around right now. They may need to sign or trade for them. If you are waiting for prospects, even Bedard, to develop it could extend the rebuild a couple more years. |

Definitely feels like a coup d etat if Rantanen as the covetous prize comes aboard and Sakic feels scalped. I figure that Sakic will find the money to pay a practically outrageous salary even should he start paring his roster to afford his star. The salary cap is projected to rise significantly for next season and Ratanen will undoubtedly command a handsome salary. The Blackhawks KD will pay to play but I think Sakic keeps him. The next impact player on a top line in Chicago more likely comes from the ‘25 #1 selection. This could be problematic if Chicago chooses outside of the top five or so choices so hopefully our lotto draw goes well.
I am hopeful that one of our dmen prospects works out very well although not a carbon copy of Maker. Nonetheless a top young dman plus a top five selection should help the Blackhawks turn a corner and produce more victories
I have difficulty envisioning a Vlasic trade so I will not even ponder how KD could attempt to trade for a top player |
