I disagree. The Krug deal likely would have been better for the Flyers. Briere was tearing it down at that moment. Sanheim is likely a huge part for Briere pivoting on his rebuild method. Flyers would would have been a guaranteed bottom team the last 2 years had we made that trade IMO - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Sanheim is the difference in any way finishing 12th to finishing last overall. Insane t believe that. |

Sanheim is playing well in the most important defensive position. Anyone one else in Sanheims role is a major downgrade. Remember Krug is out for the season. Defense is the most important position IMO.
It can make a bad goalie look good, it can also win games because even if you have no offense you can get goals from lucky bounces. You cant teally do anything about Bad defense unless you are the Edmonton Oilers

What was the official deal? Was there a first and krug coming our way? If not, my point is that we would have given away what now looks like a solid dman for nothing. Not good asset management. - Hextall271
If you are rebuilding you sell assets for picks. You arent giving him away, we would get a 1st which would have helped us rebuild. Losing one of the few good players we have would be a huge factor in where this team places in the standings leading to higher picks rather than mid picks
The Sanheim deal also has ripple effects. If we dont have Sanheim and team performs poorly, then do you think we still keep TK and maybe even Tippett? At this point we wouldn't be close to a playoff team so we would most likely be heavier sellers. Briere signed TK because he believes this teams going to be in the playoffs at some point during that contract
If the Flyers see less light at the end of the tunnel there is more reason to completely tear things down and bottem out which is how Brieres tenure began. After last season Briere saw light at the end of the tunnel. The timeline has been adjusted |

None of that changes what was said. Take him off the team the Flyers still are not finishing last overall.
Goalie is the most important position. |

Maybe not. Either way you are getting a top 5 or top 10 pick with a realistic shot at winning the lottery. Flyers would be a lot worse it if wasnt for ASanheim. Hes score some pretty big goals and while not being flashy he has been a good #1 for PHI. Better than Provorov
People underestimate how bad this team would be with your D being
York-Drysdale
Seeler-Risto
Zamula-Andrae
EJ
With York and Drysdale hurt and Sanheim dealt, the top pair right now would be Seeler and Ristolainen.......
Goalie is second most important position. Aside from Tampa Tampa and Florida none of the other cup winners had elite goaltenders.
Vegas won with a carousel
STL won with a rookie
CHI won with Crawford\Neimi
PIT won with Murray (Yes two cups were with Fleury)
WSH won with Holtby
Avs won with Kuemper
Goaltending isnt as important as it is made out to be. You dont need an elite goalie just a solid one in front of an elite team. Ersson could win a cup behind those teams.

If Bedard continues to struggle what would it take to pry him from Chicago.
I don’t think it’s possible at least this year but intriguing. - bird_dog_pa
Not happening likely at any cost at least for the foreseeable future. Came in at 18 and he’s bound to have ups and downs on a bad team. They’re not that crazy

He needs Torts to teach him the right way to play. Needs to watch from the press box and pass tests about what he saw. |

That’s what I’m saying but if the Hawks are thinking changing him to wing then picking up the phone and planting seeds should be done.

That's what I read at the time. Krug had less term on his contract then Sanheim and would mentor York.

I cant envision a scenario where Chicago would ever think about moving on from him. He is basically a one man team over there. So yeah he is going to struggle some. 19 years old. He is going to be a superstar. Chicago knows what he is.

I remember reading that. IIRC it was a Russian language interview translated.

Thank you! I will sit through this for sure.
while this may not be newsworthy- I’m still thinking about this… following the cutter debacle, did Zam really pull this? DB couldn’t afford another prospect jumping ship so did he cave on Zam’s ultimatum? Then they sat him and said there’s too much pressure on him to be MM’s voice… is it possible kolosov saw this and said “yeah me too - play me or I’m leaving.”
Might explain why we see zam before Andrae - hopefully kolosov wasn’t privy to this and trying to pull this on Danny too |

If they are in a wild card spot or within a few points they will not sell. They chances are they buy.
This trading Risto narrative crap is always good for a laugh. - furio16
From what I have read from multiple sources, the Flyers are already fielding calls for Risto, and if Risto keeps playing like this the Flyers will trade him and get something decent back, maybe even a 1st round pick. Remember, the Flyers were firmly in the playoff picture last season and traded Walker, so there is no reason to believe they will not do it again. Risto's contract is less of an issue now given he is clearly playing like a top 4 defenseman and the cap is expected to rise further this offseason. |

I was at the game on Saturday (Star Wars Night of course). I must say from the eye test Risto played a very solid and noticeable game. Part of it was, I am sure, playing against his old team. He was on top of his skates and physical.

I truly hope they can trade him. I do not see it this year though. If they did they would be taking back an equally bad contract if they want to get a 1st.

Any reputable sources? Not the Flyers beats who are on the payroll.
So his 2 weeks of solid play offsets the prior years of not so solid play? Let me know when he is dealt and when that 1st comes back. What cup contending teams would give up a 1st and play him in their top 4? I am sure teams want to use the money with the cap rising on Risto. That is something the Flyers would do. Target a non star players and use the money that way.
If he is a top4 dman like you claim why would the Flyers want to trade him? I mean under contract for 2.5 years at 5 million per is a steal for a top 4 RHD. Flyers have no one in the system ready to step into a top 4 role this year or next.
Come February they are in a wildcard spot or within a few points they will be looking to buy. They will not let it slip away without trying to get into the playoffs. They were all pumping their chest last season and thought they had the playoff spot in the bag. They will makes moves to solidfy the lineuo IMO 100%

Look at the opponent (he has played well overall prior). A bad team. Similar to getting all gaga over Andrae and the Sharks game
Sabres really are a disgrace. Remember when Pegula purchased them. We will be the top organization. We will win cups. We will spend even if I need drill another well. He is a terrible owner and the main problem. Him and piss poor management. |

If the rumors are true and a new CBA extension is announced during the Cup final, then I believe we will see more trades involving players with multiple years left on the contract. Supposedly a significant bump in the salary cap would happen with a CBA extension. Right now, the UFA market is players well into their 30s or at best middle of the lineup players. With a significant bump in the salary cap, quality in the UFA market will not get better. IMO, if Risto gets moved, most likely would be the summer.

Does a team want to waste their newfound cap space on players like Risto? |
