God damn Karlsson is so bad. Why does he keep getting pp time when he can't make a simple pass on the tape? I guess if were going for a good draft pick its good to keep playing him and Letang cuz scratching them would result in more wins for the team at this point. |

How is graves scratched and not gryz? Gryz isn’t even close to an nhl dman. I’d rather see Aho get a shot. |

Jarry puts that second one into his own net, then in OT he's for some reason just not in the goal. Rare to ever see an NHL goalie do either of those things, and he does them both in the same 15 mins of a game. |

8th two goal lead they've blown. That was game 21. |

That turd period is so predictable. All that matters though is teflon skully is still here. That's the longest leash I've ever seen. How is this possible with skully? Montgomery was fired in Boston. This is all on FSG. |

Yup. Going into the 3rd period, I told my wife I’d be more shocked if the Pens won than losing |

This is a team that has no interest in competing for a playoff spot, because as bad as they've been, they are still in it technically, but not with that kind of closing effort. |

On pace for losing 30 two goal leads. It's shocking, but not surprising. Any other coach would have been fired. |

They could have kept Guentzel and EK, but chose not to. - j.boyd919
There was no way the pens could keep both EK and Jake. Unless they trade a core player or 2? Besides EK was one of the worse trades ever. Sure they dumped some salaries, but the players traded look somewhat better then the 1 they got in return. EK sucks..

How does this make sense?? They could have resigned Jake for 8.5-9 million easily last year.
If that trade doesn't happen we have 4.5 million in space without Bunting. We don't probably make the Hayes trade 3.57 million. That is 8.07 million. We wouldn't sign Beau as the LW 9.32 million in cap space.

They could have still got it done with Karlsson but there would have been significant changes.
1. No trade of Jake means no Bunting ($4.5M).
2. We re-sign POJ instead of Gryz ($1.5M)
3. We don't do the Hayes BS ($2.5M)
The figures above are net savings of their replacements. Jake would have re-signed here for $8.5M over 8 years if we actually negotiated during the season. So Dubas chose Bunting, Gryz, Hayes and some mid level picks/prospects over Jake, POJ and lets just say Poulin in the lineup. I was fine trading Jake, but not fine with how Dubas assembled this roster.
And yes, the Karlsson trade was pretty darn bad. I think I am the only one who has thought it was bad from day one, maybe Grinder too, but it seems like everyone is coming down to the reality of it now. Heck, the way Karlsson has been playing I think man to man you would rather have Petry or Rutta playing on the 2nd pair than Karlsson. |

even worse, 8th in 10L & 4OT out of 21gms. There is zero accountability in the Pens Org. on-ice or front office. How Sullivan is still employed is beating a dead horse. This group is out of excuses. They have enough celebrated vets, to understand what needs to be done. A few bad roster spots/ deployment shouldn't sink the ship. However, father time is undefeated and has caught-up w/ Sid & crew. It doesn't help that half the roster is north of 30yrs. Legs are gone by 3rd period. Maybe they lack elite fitness? 10 SOG's in the final 40mins; just 4 in the 3rd per. & 3 HDCF & 11 HDCA ain't gonna cut-it.

Just sharing an opinion from the other side. I do think the Karlsson trade helped them last year. It was a big swing to inject new life into the core.
I personally liked it in large part due to the contracts shed. I did have some reservations about two offensive and aging RHD. Ideally we would have had a situation where you ease Letang into a sheltered offensive role and had someone else take the main defensive assignments. But, the roster was pretty screwed up after Hextall's big defensive swap. I disagree Petry would be better. And I did figure it would help the PP.
What happened? Wasn't as good as expected last year. I did feel Karlsson helped more than hurt at ES. But he didn't help the PP and it got worse. He wasn't the only reason, but became the face of it.
This year though, he's been awful and doesn't seem like he even cares. So I have to admit in hindsight it didn't work out. I don't think they're much better this year regardless and I like they took a big gamble because they needed one. But I can't keep saying it was good either.
A lot is on EK moping, but also Letang's decline having no place to hide him defensively if you also are protecting EK. For me, it goes back to not trading a solid pair in Matheson and Marino. Then you never get into Petry, Graves, Gryz or Karlsson in the first place, and you have a solid defense even now because you can protect Letang and give him Pettersson while your younger players man a third pair. |
