Don't be silly.

The obvious package here is filled with players fans don't want or have given up on and no first rounders involved.

Nashville won't say no to that!

- Scabeh

Seems to be the logic for some.

He waived his NTC to be traded here 2 years ago

And there has never been a report he didn't like playing here. The only report was that he chose Nashville for less of a spotlight.

He is signed for another 2 years after this one.

And I repeat, a player who signs a 4 year contract with no trade protection most likley doesn't have where he is playing as a priority.

- Santo_44

Or the signing gm doesnt give out nmc/ntc like some gms.
Not every player has the ability to get a nmc/ntc

We literally have a direct comparison of a Leafs trade for ROR lol

And he was 2 years younger.

It would not take that much

- Santo_44

And he didnt have 2 more years on his contract.

Its clear he didnt want to extend with Toronto, why bring back a player whos already been here.

Moving on.

I think that if you really want to dream a little dream of him coming back to Toronto, you need to lean heavily on the "He loved playing for Berube" narrative.

I was trying to look up the full results from the trade...the players that were picked with the leafs picks. but its just a bunch of names...so far nobody prospects

but its similar, hes older, but has more term...so evens out a little

- senstroll

When he was traded to the leafs he had a whopping 19pts in 40games (0.475ppg), last year he had 69pts in 82 games (0.841ppg), as of now he has 11pts in 20 games (0.55ppg).
So he has been performing better since he first traded to the leafs and left. So it could cost the same...maybe more if the leafs need Nashville to retain.

If this goalie situation continues to provide above-average goaltending for the entire season and postseason, then I would move this team from pretender to contender status. All of the pieces appear to be there :

1) Championship pedigree coaching who demands a playoff-friendly style of play and has buy-in from the players.

2) Elite game-breaker forwards and snipers.

3) Solid defense with depth

4) Good goaltending where every mistake doesn't end up in the net.

I'm not saying "plan the parade", but a parade is not some far-fetched idea now.

So there.

2) Veteran Hockeybuzz blogger who really knows his junior hockey stuff.

3) Elite game-breaker forwards and snipers.

4) Incredibly sexy winger who makes fans tingle whenever he touches the puck.

5) Solid defense with depth.

6) Good goaltending where every mistake doesn't end up in the net.

7) Unlimited revenue stream from ridiculous in-arena beer prices.

8) The strongest online community at the most popular independent hockey roomer site on the planet.

I'm not saying "plan the parade", but a parade is not some far-fetched idea now.

So there.

Agree. What impresses me the most at this point is that everybody has bought into the Chief's system.

Either that or you sit is the other option I guess.

Nick Robertson scored at a 21 goal, 42 point pace last year.

He's still very young, was a steal at #53 in the second round, and is the brother of Jason Robertson, who scored 116 goals over the past 3 seasons.

I'm thinking Nashville can't afford to say "no" to a Robertson for O'Reilly (50% retained) trade.

- Atomic Wedgie

I would be shocked beyond belief if that's all it takes, especially WITH retention.

No chance.

The leafs have looked great in reg season many times over the past several years and they look great again (albeit a different style that may be more on par with playoff hockey). But the big question will be, can the above occur in the playoffs?
Mainly, can we score enough and can our big boys show up in elimination games.

I understand the pessimism, but in the past the Leafs simply outscored their defensive liabilities. Now, the D is solid, the offense is still strong, and the goaltending is performing well above anything we've seen in maybe decades. I'm with Galactic, not planning the parade, but it doesn't seems as far fetched at the moment.

Still a long way to go...
