Montembault now tied with Helleybuck (butchered his name probably) for most shutouts this season.
While playing on a team that's bottom 5 in the league.
By the end of the tournament, he'll be Canada's starter imho. - Scabeh
It's very possible. I did some poking on another PC yesterday (well, my work PC which is all the way upstairs - but I almost never save any of the analysis I do) and posted this on Twitter to some Habs guy defending the selection of Montembeault:
If you look at Canadian goaltender's goals saved above expected numbers from 2022 - 2025 cumulative, Montembeault is 2nd in GSAx/60 to the injured Broissoit. Then Talbot, Hill, Hofer, Skinner, Binnington . . . unfortunately Fleury's best days are long gone being 19th out of 22.
I'll say that when making a selection you want some history, some demonstration of consistency and ideally some success showing that as a player or goalie you can make a positive contribution towards winning.
Binnington and Hill have won cups recently and sorta recently and Montembeault won the World Championship 2 years ago.
Binnington is probably the worst goalie of the three and has the biggest reputation because he won the cup as a rookie. |

Seeing X chatter about Trouba to TOR. Not a chance, why would we bail out an Eastern Conference contender, assuming they turn it around...
Trouba is hot garbage and yeah, DOPS would crucify us, he'd be suspended for 67 games just to troll us. - gravyface
It's amusing to me that he just won the Messier Award last year and they want to ship their Captain off. |

I'm not a fan of Binnington. He looked absolutely horrible last world championship and has cruised on his reputation of being a cup winner ever since it happened. Not to mention he's as unstable as it gets in his attitude. I think, currently, Logan Thompson should be there instead of him.
But at the end of the day, I think Montembault is still the best one of the bunch. If he played on a team that wasn't a mess defensively half the time, he'd have much, much better numbers. |

It's almost as if asking Mark Messier to pick who wins the Messier award isn't completely objective.

The Messier award is even more hot garbage than Trouba.
It's like they award it to guys whose careers are winding down or over.
2023-24: Jacob Trouba
2022-23: Steven Stamkos
2021-22: Anže Kopitar
2020-21: Patrice Bergeron
2019-20: Mark Giordano
2018-19: Wayne Simmonds
2017-18: Deryk Engelland
2016-17: Nick Foligno
2015-16: Shea Weber
2014-15: Jonathan Toews
2013-14: Dustin Brown
2012-13: Daniel Alfredsson
2011-12: Shane Doan
2010-11: Zdeno Chára
2009-10: Sidney Crosby
2008-09: Jarome Iginla
2007-08: Mats Sundin
2006-07: Chris Chelios
Look at that list. There are like two guys on that whole list I'd even have playing for my team this year! Kidding aside it very much recognizes a lot of guys in their mid-30s.
I can't see how Ovechkin doesn't win it this year. |

They picked Engelland and he can't even spell his first name.
As for Ovechkin so there are so many layers to that onion, I don't know. Russia is a dumpster fire in a larger tire fire - its politics are and have always been bloody. I don't know Ovechkin and I don't know his motivations but I do know that he still has family there. Maybe he agrees with Putin. Maybe he loves his family.
Ultimately I don't have enough unbiased information about him to make any type of decision and I sincerely don't think any of us do. |

but yeah. its unlikely. but Ott and NYR both are looking for answers and i dont doubt both are looking to shake things up. They would make good trade partners

I just can't imagine any package that would be worth it for the Senators.
The Rangers are not a lottery pick team, so draft picks won't be enough.
Are they going to part with Lafreniere? Plus, plus, plus?

just from listening to the Ottawa sports radio chatter.. constant complaints about the D. ..time to shakeup the core since its more of the same ..blah blah
wouldnt surprise me if they thought Trouba (capt Leader) would be a help for them.
