I'd like to thank the City of Toronto, as well as individual shop keepers and real estate management companies, for laying down 40 million tons of salt on the sidewalks.

My dog really, really appreciates it.

Bastards.

Its either that or someone could slip and fall...although they do put down a little too much at times.

There has got to be something Trouba did or someone he really pissed off cause that is a horrible deal for the rangers.
A nobody and a 4th rounder?

- Fakepartofme

The Rangers maybe have something else brewing because they just freed up what 7M in cap space (pro rated for this year obviously) and 8 for next?

Perhaps the offers were so underwhelming and Trouba didn't want to go to many other places so they figured get something vs putting him on waivers and getting nothing?

It's kinda' fun to have a big story like this to talk about, I mean when was the last time a big market captain was essentially discarded by his team like this?

Seems the Rangers fans in their blog comments are over the moon their GM didn't have to add to get rid of the Trouba contact never mind the fact they got a player back who is on an expiring deal and a pick.

The value of cap space & the flexibility and options that provides is highly underrated quite often.

Me thinks the Ducks got hosed on this one big time but we will see.

I don't know the deets but it seems pretty sour doesn't it. Has to be a huge problem in the room with Trouba. And maybe Kreider.

They felt their captain wasn't worth the $8M a year they were going to have to pay him this year and next, so they gave him away to Anaheim for the Ducks' 7th Dman and a 4th round pick.

The Rangers now have lots of cap space - a rarity for them.

as long as some GMs see him as a positive player still, they will pay.

again its so annoying teams can easily wipe 8 mil off the books to create cap space for a player they didnt even want

Nobody has come out and said this, and I would think that if it were true, Larry Brooks or another Rangers writer would have said something.

I meant at the end here, as a distraction in the room, after the Rangers let it be known Trouba and Kreider were available. Of course that would be an issue in the room.

I saw someone say on Twitter they’ll have 33.5 million in cap space next year.

Cap Friendly says $29.5M

https://puckpedia.com/team/new-york-rangers

Edit: I don't know if those numbers take into account a rising cap.

When the leafs traded Liljegren people were upset the leafs gave up a 1st rounder. If another team does it (Vaakanainen drafted 18th overall) they’re just giving up a nobody?

I’m mostly interested as to why the rangers took on someone in the midst of an injury plagued season, he’s currently on IR due to upper body issues. The theory that they’re after cap space is interesting… makes me curious if they’re after someone right now.

Vaakanainen has 141 games, 1 goal, 24 assists.

He is a nobody.

And a never going to be.

“No, we are not (trading him),” Rutherford said flatly. “We stand by him.”
