It's been obvious for a couple of years now yet here we are. - PeteM
Yeah I get it and I agree. I also understand the business side of selling seats and merch. But, as you said here we are. I’d like to think that Lou has some shred of pride to make the necessary changes even if that means he’s part of the change. The status quo has become the norm. Would be nice to see an owner, any owner come out and confidently tell fans they wanna win now. |

My God...let it be true. Even if there's no intention to rebuild or retool, this would be great for the Isles. Let Toronto deal with Mayfield's nightly shock and amazement that refs call penalties for painfully obvious infractions. |

I don't put Kypreos in the same "insider" category as guys like Friedman and Seravalli but if he's willing to accept a trade elsewhere that would be incredible |

Willingly going from New York to Toronto is like the proverbial frying pan to fire. Still curious about the Tavares tax case. That could factor into a lot of players willingness to play in Canada if their up front bonus’ can’t be sheltered. |

Going from Long Island to Toronto is like going from tucked away inside the dark, quiet cabinet into the fryer |

But you have a chance to win with the Leafs.
Cannot see someone trading for Mayfield unless the Islanders add something else. Hope I'm wrong. |

Maybe we can throw Horvat in to sweeten the pot. There isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t want him evidently. |

I like Horvat personally. I think like every other first line center the isles have ever had, they don’t flank them with proper talent.
The one argument my leaf fan friends make that is 100% true is that Snow had 8 years to get Tavares some linemates. It’s simply true. They continuously try and fit a square peg into a round hole on the first line at wing. Horvat said publicly Peterson would be a welcomed addition and they could use them. Just my two cents |

I think you’d be surprised. At the end of the day there’s still a market for a big dman who kills penalties and blocks shots, and will stick up for teammates. I wouldn’t shed a tear if Mayfield went but I don’t think he’s gonna be hard to move. |

I don’t hate Horvat. There was a bit of sarcasm in that post. Bigger contracts aren’t the easiest to move especially with term in regard to Mayfield. I can’t imagine the Leafs being genuinely interested in absorbing Mayfield’s contract for that alone. Forget about it being Mayfield they would be acquiring. 😆 |

Horvat put up nice numbers with Barzal last year until the playoffs. Horvat is a good player but can be streaky like Nelson. Islanders did waste JT and are in danger of wasting Barzal. |

Yeah like Chief said, I don’t hold too much weight in Kypreos saying it but I do think he’s got value elsewhere. To be fair he did have a few good seasons which landed him that contract. It’s only now that he continues to make bad passes to exit the zone. The behind your own net, pass off the boards/glass to the other team has gotten old real quick |

I know I’ll be lambasted for suggesting this but maybe Barzal isn’t the guy for Horvat? I like Barzal but I don’t love him. I also think it’s a little off balanced that your best player/highest paid is a set up guy when the teams need for decades has been a sniper on the wing. Just my opinion obviously. |

Paul Bissonnette on #Isles alternate captain Brock Nelson's trade value (SCP):
"There's so many teams out there looking to add at that Center position so he becomes such a valuable piece and as we get near the deadline I think you're going to see a little bit of overpayment."
Yes please |

Forget Mayfield; the more interesting item from Kypreos is: "Lots of people in the industry think the 82-year-old won't be back in this position with the organization next season, so ownership could be putting pressure on Lamoriello to ensure he brings back assets." #isles |

Rumors are out there that 24 years old RW Maxim Shabanov is going to sign in the NHL next season with teams like #Isles, #LetsGoPens, #LetsGoFlyers, #gobolts, #VegasBorn and #LetsGoOilers mentioned as possible destinations.
This would be a pretty big deal, this kid is very good. He's small, but highly skilled.
Normally I wouldn't think the Isles had a chance against those other teams, but they seem to have really pumped up their Russian scouting/presence and getting someone like Tsyplakov probably works very much in the their favor. Not to mention with a sell-off likely coming they will be able to promise significant ice time, which is the only real advantage over all of those teams except maybe the Flyers. |

The Islanders needed a shooting wing to take advantage of Barzal's passing skills. Barzal is not the issue, and the makeup of the team is the issue. |

Isles have 4 Russians who could be helpful in him choosing the isles. Any asset that costs nothing to acquire is a good asset IMO |

Yeah I don’t think Barzal is the issue but he’s not a finisher and he’s your “best player”. My biggest beef with the islanders has been there inability to procure a legitimate first line. We will see what happens going forward but I truly hope whatever direction they take brings in a top tier first line. I also think the PP not being a threat for decades is a direct result of that lack of top tier talent. |

Full-on agree on free assets. Even if he stinks, no big deal. |
