Simon Nemec is a not happy in Jersey. D with offensive upside. Young fits the mold.

This is the attitude Lou has created with his loyalty and bad contracts.

I believe there is some truth to this.

Not sure why he would be any happier with us.

Matt Martin with 3:38 of ice time. Great guy, had a great career as an islander but this is a total head scratcher. He didn’t make Roy’s team outta camp, but Lou found a way to pay him back for agreeing to tag along unsigned. Now, when the isles are being tested by predators they become prey when Martin can’t see the ice. What’s the point? The guys ice time is less than his 5 min major which is what he’s here for.

More examples of Lou undermining his coach. It's not going to end up well when the players see the GM can do these things to the coach and the GM does not have the coaches back.

He will be thrilled with the Islanders with Lou not expecting results and letting the players slide.

I’m dumping Nelson, Palmieri, Lee, Cizikas, Pageau, Pulock, and Mayfield.

Funny when they drafted Pulock all they talked about was his heavy clapper. We never see it.

We never saw a good offensive game from Pulock. I'm fine with trading this group.

For a season or two under Trotz it felt like they had a sneaky first pair in Pelech and Pulock. Now Pulock to me plays like he wants out. I’m no special teams guru but how is the guy with 102 MPH clapper not a scoring option on PP1?

Cholowski has potential. He looks like he could take Mayfields minutes

I still don't see a path to Mayfield getting moved, as great as that would be. As far as Cholowski, maybe they keep him in the fold or maybe they move him to a team looking to bolster their defensive depth. I can't imagine he'd bring back much, so maybe it'd be better to keep him around for another season and see if they can't build his stock a little more.

If only we saw this coming with a stale roster. Lou was pretty much Garth 2.0 in terms of his work with the roster.

I wouldn't say that at all, but it's time to move on for sure. Big sell off this year would jumpstart a retool big time. I don't see them going scorched-earth rebuild since they have a couple of strong veterans in the fold for the foreseeable future, but they're going to have to take a step back for at least a season or three to restock the pipeline and start building up the roster.

I agree about not going scorched-earth. I stand by Lou's work with the roster not been good and when you have such little turnover, it's going to lead to what we are seeing. Lou hiring Barry was huge over any coach Garth hired, but both failed in terms of the roster.

I think the problem with this situation is that Roy and Lou are both control guys. You can’t have two alphas.

Lou did say Patrick would have more say. This does not seem to be the case with what happened with Martin and Pierre. Lou does not want to admit it's over for him and he does not want to give up any power.

I honestly wonder if, assuming Lou is done after the season, they don't consider Roy for the job and look for a new coach. Roy was the coach/GM of his junior team and, I believe, has been interested in a management role in the past.

This would make sense and especially if Patrick is familiar with junior players.

I can absolutely see that. I’d welcome it judging by Roy’s roster decision on game 1 vs Lou

Cholo was an absolute abortion last night.
3 penalties and a ton of TO’s.
Not that the team was much better but it was his worst game as an Islander last night imho.

I think having a younger guy as GM is advantageous because the agents run the league. It’s no longer an old school boys club and I think Lou’s probably had a hard time dealing with younger agents. Who the hell wants to deal with his rules? It’s a different player nowadays. The old school bullying isn’t working. No kid nowadays wants to be told to shave or be basically given a number.
