Canes have been at or above the cap every year since he took over, and the stated approach to goalies is that you shouldn't spend on them unless they're one of a very small handful of guys who actually move the needle themselves.

I still don’t believe that’s the reason. I just don’t think they are as good as we think. It’s a big reason teams like Tampa, NJ, and Florida dominated us in the playoffs the last 3 years and why they haven’t been good 5v5 for years

I think he'll get significant minutes as a chance to prove he belongs in the NHL. He did extremely well at the beginning of the season.
