The bagels are like cakes. They're huge. They're not bad, per se. They're just not bagels like Montreal bagels. Of course, they all THINK NY bagels are far superior. My wife thought that when I met her too. Then she tried a Montreal bagel.
My son can't wait to come in to Montreal next Friday. His plan is to eat smoked meat every single day.

The inside is like cake, yes. The outside, if fresh, is soft but crunchy. If a few hours old, and no longer hot, they may cut the roof of your mouth. But they're very large.
