Doug Ford has done a real good job at keeping us liquored up 24/7. Might as well get more out of it. |

Both are great. Really cool to see how people in the 20's/30's thought of what would come to pass...and the fact that they got a weird number of things right...Huxley got a lot weirdly correct about current society if you think about it abstractly. |

yeah, same thing for Orwell, they weren't necessarily detailed/accurate predictions but he definitely explores concepts that can be applied to our world today.

Mrs Balls lol - Pat1993
No "s".
Just Mrs Ball.
That being said, for an (about 60-year-old) woman back then, she was pretty much all in on the sex an stuff for that book.

Huxley's thing was basically anti-depressant future drugs, everything being sexualized to keep people stimulated and constant media bombardments of messaging.
1984 is a little more grounded and real...which is funny in hindsight. |

I don't think even the most desperate alcoholic like myself could justify a Milwaukee Ice or Laker Lager for even $1. |

you gotta put that in a brown paper bag so the cops think you're walking down the sidewalk swigging a 1 liter bottle of pepsi (that you paid tax on). |

It's kind of seared into my brain, but when I was in New Orleans at a Walgreens, we went to the liquor section and there was a "Purple" flavoured vodka that cost $10 for a 750ml bottle (40%) and I didn't buy it. I regret not just trying what the (frank) it was. |

Like I said... interesting concept, but is is gonna leave a patchwork of problems an cost companies lots of money to figure out and implement.
Some companies have this built into their systems, others do not.
Would have been easier to just send everyone money.
We are never going to hear the end of how this was/is a mess. - Mashadar

I remember being on a University trip to Chicago, we found this giant discount liquor store in the basement of some kind of old office building. 95% of the stuff in there I had never seen before. Did not have the money to pick out a few things to try.
Lots of weird poop. Always wondered if it was stolen / black market stuff.
Went back to Chicago a number of times since, but was never able to find the place again, wanted to try to find some of that crazy stuff to try.
All I remember about the place was was a giant mural inside the entrance that said in big block letters "Drink fast so you can come back soon!". |
