IMO they should go with 3 "A" s until they see how the season plays out. No sense in naming an official captain that could get traded if the downward slide continues. - DONMURDOCH14
Yea drury just said today they’re not naming one |

When is the last time a team won the Stanley cup without a named captain? (Not advocating they should, I’m just legit curious now and curbing my expectations for the year lol) |

Sounds like Drury is done for a bit - TPC
As i said before, moving Trouba ASAP during this losing streak was imperative. I dont expect anything more until February, unless something falls in his lap. |

Good. Let him watch some games with this new energy and cement the idea that trading Kakko would be a mistake.

His overall stats averaging around 150 hits per season. - aecliptic
I stand corrected- he is one mean SOB ! |

I don’t think he has any intentions of trading Kakko. He’s been “on the block” my me lol and many others forever and he hasn’t been traded. Makes no sense to trade him now that he’s found himself
To me Drury has ruffled feathers around the NHL and someone is leaking unnecessary bullpoop to make him look bad. What he did this week was really impressive…to not have give any sweetners and to get Ana to take on the whole salary is bonkers. And he got rid of the locker room issues at the same time. I truly believe he saved the season |

Crazy to think Trouba as a locker problem but the manner in which they got rid of him indicates he was. Now you have to question those who supported in giving him the Captaincy 2 short years ago. |

It just baffles me that, at the time, rather than giving a guy that was drafted by this team, that went through the ups and downs with the team, that for better or worse has been a part of the fabric of this team was passed up for Trouba. Ive never been the biggest Kreider fan, but hes a Ranger through and through, someone whose number will likely end up in the rafters. I wonder if theres some resentment by Kreider that he was never given the reigns. That could potentially why we heard his name briefly show up in trade possibilities. |

I don’t think he was a problem in the locker room. Maybe after the way they handled things this summer? But I highly doubt there was any issue prior to that.
Trouba said it himself, he chose this summer his family over what the Rangers wanted him to do (get traded). I’m sure after an organization tells u ur no longer welcome, u don’t give it ur all for that organization. |

It wasn’t a problem until this season tho. Once they had the summer trade blow up the marriage was doomed
His play really dipped badly since he got the C. Him and Lindgren are evidence that the NHL speeding up every year and getting a lot faster. And we need d that can skate and be more mobile to help lug the puck more.
Rangers really need Emery (who I forgot about for some reason), Fortesque and probably Mancini to pan out. Need two of them at least |

Isnt it possible that Kreider didn’t want the C? |

Trouba was very good last year prior to getting hurt (broken ankle if I remember correctly?). I believe he came back for a few regular season games and obviously the playoffs and stunk once he was back.
This year I think it’s just everything that was going on behind the scenes just made him not care. Apparently his agent said they knew it was only a matter of time before he was traded and the Rangers made it very clear they wanted to dump him. Why would he go out and give 100% knowing it’s not if but when? Drury messed this one up badly IMO. |

Of course you do lol
Fwiw, Dave Bernstein gave him an A++ grade on this deal. And I don’t think he’s done with the defense. Provorov will be a Ranger, I think he’s very likely. The teams were obviously talking during the Trouba trade |

Listen, do I think Trouba was the problem? No.
Was Trouba playing like garbage since he came back from his injury last year? Yes.
Are we a less physical team, from the non-physical team we already are? Yes.
Is Mancini playing 10 minutes a night better than having Trouba still here? No, but let’s see what Drury does to fix that, to early to say definitively one way or the other. |

He was never very good. At his best here he was a number 4 dman and now a bottom pair. They forced him into a shutdown role. Not his forte. At$3.5m he’s worth a spot |

I don't think it's fair to say that they have "Mancini playing 10 minutes a night" though. He played 10 minutes in the one game since Trouba was moved, on the day he was recalled. But, he's averaging 15 minutes in his 11 games. That's already a reasonable amount for a 3rd pair guy. There is no reason that doesn't get increased if he gets acclimated and plays the way he's shown he can. |

Your post was about how dumb it was to make Trouba captain when it should have been Kreider,no? And my point was : how do we know that Kreider wanted the C?
Summary: on face value u are right But its difficult to say what you said without knowing all the facts |

Fair point, but that means Fox is playing those extra minutes as opposed to Trouba. Like TJ said, I don’t think Fox is meant to be a 25+ minute a night top pair dman. Unless the thought is that the right side is set now and they’ll work on Lindgren and Jones replacements. |
