flyers history in drafting/developing dman is stellar.

If you think the Flyers will continue to fail at everything then why watch? It would be a colossal waste of your time.

It's not about everything, it's about overall and the end result. They have been a failure as an organization and one of the worst run teams overall for the last 14 years. Are you still watching?

You think he has the majority say on signing free agents?
- psuhockey

He has a huge voice yes. Look at who they have signed as further proof.

I stopped watching under Fletcher when it was obvious he had no idea what he was doing and during the later parts of Hextall’s era. I am giving Jones and Briere the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

Go back and listen to the preseason podcasts when they were giving interviews.

So you weren't watching then but are now? To each his own but I see no reason to give Jones and Briere the benefit of the doubt. They aren't even running the show. Tortorella is.

No thanks. I seriously doubt either made that definitive of a statement. You certainly aren't required to but I'd like to see links to those statements. I'm speculating so I certainly could be wrong.

For the most part yes, I supported his hiring and what he was trying to do.

Okay, but I doubt they definitively said no free agents for the two years.

So why aren’t you supporting Briere who is doing the exact same thing?

No they said specifically that no free agents because of their cap situation for the next two years pretty much verbatim and that all improvements would have to come from within.

What is most likely what they said is that their cap situation will prevent them from signing any top level free agents. Not that there will be absolutely no free agents signed in the next two years. I would not be at all surprised to see them make a minor signing at the NHL level. Depending on what they do with the current roster.

Lindros era was brought down by Clarke's belief in not spending huge money on a goaltender. With no salary cap, this was a catastrophic mistake. An arguable GOAT goaltender (Brodeur) was in the division and also Mike Richter.

Michkov is trending towards a generational player. Briere is going to have to make tough choices about the roster or risk Michkov having a Giroux type career. The roster is not good enough and the center depth is abysmal with very little immediate help on the horizon. Realistically, Luchanko is the only realistic option for center help within the next 2 seasons. So the Flyers will have wasted Michkov's entire ELC with very little help at center.

Heres the thing though. The flyers could have won with Giroux. Management just made boneheaded trades and signings and didn't give Giroux the support needed. Guys like MacDonald, Lecavalier Eminger were clearly not the answer.

After Hextall took over he further wasted Girouxs career buy moving guys who would help him and keeping them mediocre. Say what you want about the return of the Schenn trade but theres no denying the team would have been better with Schenn in the lineup. Hextall wasted Giroux and Voracek. Both should have been moved if thats the direction hecwanted to go. Neither were spring chickens

Briere right now appears to be doing the same thing as hextall. Only difference is Michkov is a spring chicken and on a elc. He can afford to waste some time but at the end of the day hes going to have to pick a side eventually. Try to win with Michkov or rebuild.

Trying to do both with likely lead us down thecsame path

Darn Soto to the Mets. I guess the Phillies can't compete with Steven A. Cohen's wallet.
- THE EVIL WITHIN

Gut punch. Especially after getting their asses kicked by the Mets in the NLDS. Would love Dombrowski to land Crochet in response.

I guess I’m just not as optimistic about the last few games. the losses to Boston and Utah leave a bad taste in my mouth - I don’t see these “team-building” wins.

Reality is that losses should build optimism. As fans the best we can hope for is that their incompetence brings unintended consequences. Such as lucking into Michkov. We simply can't rely on this franchise building a true cup contending team by plan and executing a plan. Simply isn't going to happen.
