Not trying to be too negative, but cynicism exists for this team, but "holding" on against the Sabres doesn't give me the fuzzies of hope. If it were a top NHL team, then I would feel better. Each player and this team have A LOT to prove to themselves and the NHL that they can contend.

Their goalie did keep them in and of course Brendan Burke just had to mention how they hadn't given up a goal 5v6 all season and then gave up two! I blame Brendan the Islander

That's a fair difference, but it could just be the flow of the game. I noticed one shift where Bread and Trocheck got on and then the Rangers were pinned in their zone for a good 30-40 seconds before the RW got to the bench and Laffy could jump on. Then, 10 seconds later at a whistle, they came off.
