Mika had 149 hits one year in Ottawa and over 100 3/5 years there. He had 134 in 18/19 for NYR but was down to 49 last year and second most was just 92. He’s on pace for under 30 this year.
Surprisingly Barkov has only had over 100 hits once in his career which was last year and on pace for 100 again. He’s usually closer to 50.
Not sure what the conclusion is here other than hits probably aren’t the biggest indicator for effectiveness. Mika does need to step it up this year though. - TC88
The conclusion is his game is dipping. Less hits, goals, assists leads to him being less involved. His game play has been atrocious. Defensive liability, look at the Hawks goal where he flubs it. |

You just made a case for use keeping Goodrow. He was the key to this collapse. - NYRCeph
Goodrow is a whole other case. We signed him for the playoffs, he shows up, almost scoring more goals than Panarin and Mika combined and then they waive him.
Yes I know Cap space, but there is always another way.
Too late to discuss now anyway. |

We all know that Mika is not being counted on to throw his body around. But, the hit totals are an indication of how engaged he is overall. He isn't going to throw devastating hits. But, he is at his best when is getting inside on someone and leveraging them off the puck, or using his body position to separate the puck from someone. This is the element of his game that sparks the offense and exactly what we haven't been seeing. |

the answer is that the dumped Goodrow so they could add Reilly Smith, that's what happened
but I also think at the time they were counting on Trouba being unloaded too and it fell through so the actual plan didn't continue, whatever was going to happen next |

Actually, there is a really good point in there. When reviewing Zib's hits, you can conclude on some level he is less involved, less engaged. Hockey is a physically engaged sport, whether it's actually hits, or forechecking. Being less physically engaged, you are not in the hard areas any more. |

I hoenstly don't even know what to write given how much has transpired the last 11 days. If this channel is FCC monitored I might get banned if I used the language I want to. What an embarrassment. |

I lost all respect for Lavi. Scratch Kreider fine, but the fact that zib continues to see the ice while being the laziest player on the team is beyond reason. He needs to be fired |

The sad part is we have to hope for it. The 3rd period today was a team that has totally quit and laid down. 12 shots all game in a rivalry game is a joke
They really need to consider blowing it all up. Probably take Drury with it too. The players / coaches / management are all on different levels and they just are full of toxic energy between them |
