Not a Torts fan but also not a hater. Who is the all-star with almost a point/game...Kevin Hayes? Well he's on a 2nd team since the Flyers and he's been inconsistent his whole career. Tony D? I liked Tony D but the fact that he's out of the league isn't on Torts. Despite the claims on here that the Flyers are a bunch of old grizzled vets, we are one of the youngest teams in the league. That's why I don't like Torts...he doesn't have the patience to deal with the kids. The mind games suggestion, however, is hilarious. - Don Nachbaur
At the time, Hayes was an all star and a point per game player. Then Torts played his games, and he was worth nothing. I don't like Hayes, hated the signing, and the results were what I was expecting. The point, however, is that Torts cost us any kind of return for an all star. Like it or not, that is the truth and it doesn't matter what Hayes has done since. Torts directly cost us any kind of return on Hayes, like he is also doing to Frost and Farabee.

Did the same thing with Angelo. The bottom line is that overall, the hiring of Tortorella has been a detriment to this franchise. As long as he is involved, the Flyers are going nowhere.

It wasn’t too long ago that Ristolainen’s contract scared teams, but it’s funny what happens with a 20-minute-a-night, top-four defenseman finds his game more consistently, as he has this season. Suddenly, with the salary cap going up, a $5.1 million cap hit for the next two and a half years isn’t so bad at all. That’s why league sources say the Flyers have indeed received calls this season asking if they would be willing to move Ristolainen. The answer from the Flyers is yes — if there’s a certain price met. They would want a good prospect or young player in return or a combination of a prospect and a pick. And while trading for a player with term on his contract isn’t your typical deadline deal since most contenders prefer rentals, I can see it appealing to a few teams. For example, the Jets. I’d like to see the Jets add the kind of size on the right side of their defense that Ristolainen would bring. And after giving up a first-round pick last season for rental Sean Monahan only to see him leave July 1, and keeping in mind how difficult it is for the Jets to attract free agents to Winnipeg, I like the idea of acquiring a player under contract. So there you have it, I’ve got the Cup-contending Jets taking on Ristolainen.

I'm not saying it's impossible to trade him this season, but next year is far more likely.

interesting point about the term and the Jets needing folks to want to be there, they also listed Dallas as a potential spot. You get a first, no holding dollars and you really are rebuilding, you move him and drive him there.

A 1st and no retention is a dream, however unlikely scenario. I'll volunteer to drive him myself.

If a certain price is met. That tells me they have placed a high value like they do with Laughton and really do not want to move him.
I think Danny is a putz. When he sees other teams may be interested, he will say to himself then we should keep him as he can help us.
As said before will believe it when I see it that they will sell while in the playoff "race". The negative effect it would have in the room, and it would really hurt the winning culture torts has established the last 2.5 years.

I also question Ristolainen actually improving all that much. It looks to me like he was propped up by Andrae. The Flyers should take any offer they get if the other team is willing to take on the full contract without major salary coming back.

if his play falls off it wont be more likely. if they can move him for real assets you, do it. Especially if no retention.
They would also try to replace him via free agency or trade IMO over the summer. Is that a good thing? Having Risto doesn't hurt the team or cap at this point. Even if you just let his contract run out or move him his last year.

flyers should bring him back as a stop gap center. Be an upgrade on what they have currently.
Assume you didn’t read the comments prior, the conversation was about how small the D were, to many of the same player type. You could move York for a D with more size and yea, if you wanted center help, you could move York in a package for center help, knowing you had similar D in the system Before you respond, let me help, it would have to be a player at a similar spot to York, similar perceived upside, you know, a good hockey trade. Is that not what a GM is paid to do, find the deals that make sense and move the franchise forward. The draft is not the only place you can find young talent - wcorvette
Oh, gotcha! Makes sense. The question is if DB is actually capable of pulling off a hockey trade. It's gonna have to happen to move this team forward.

This is a hilarious take. Blame it all on Torts and absolve the players of ANY responsibility at all! How convenient! Eh what????

Even more hilarious take is your constant sack hanging from the organization and especially Torts that he is the greatest coach in the history of hockey.
A common theme of irrational Tortorella supporters is to credit the coach if a player is doing well. However if a player is struggling and the coach is blamed. They argue that it's on the player and he bears responsibility. It's interesting.

Do you even have a brain in your head? WTF! I don't support this organization at all. I am critical as much as anyone when it's called for. I just don't whine and whimper like some of you sissies on here. You have no clue what you're talking about. I haven't bought a ticket since 2012 and have been critical of the team to the point of getting temporary bans on Flyers FB websites. Blaming Torts for every player's misgivings is short sighted and downright ignorant. Thanks! Have a good day! Clown!
Is Michkov playing well right now? Does he look like a fast player? Is he antocipating well? Is he battling for pucks and making plays like he did earlier in the season? He is not close to the level he was at earlier. When a very young player is showing these signs, the answer is not to throw him out there and play him 20 minutes a game. He is struggling to keep up right now. I think the Flyers need to be patient and just get the kid through the season relatively healthy. Then give him the off season to get stronger and faster, since then he would have a year under his belt and know what to expect and where he needs to improve. Its absolutely good coaching to see the signs and give the kid a break when he needs it. - jd250
I’m all honesty he looks like a kid trying not to make a mistake and upset dad. He took some overly aggressive penalties right about the time he started playing more tentative. I wondered if perhaps Torts went overboard in telling him to tone it down. No he’s not playing his best hockey and yes, it’s usually the player not the coach when young guys go through these low points. But does anyone honestly believe that Torts has the answers? It seems like only Tippett is allowed to work through his rough patches, everyone else gets benched.
Give the kid more ice time. Work it out of him. Let him go head to head with Crosby so he can see what an established NHL hall of famer does. He would gain more from playing in that game than watching. Just my 2 cents and last time I checked, I’ve be eve coached an NHL game and never will. But I do know that I don’t believe Torts has the right answers for this kid.

A putz! 😂
Point taken though. Danny seems like that one guy in every fantasy league that overvalues his players when it comes to trading them so they never get traded. Then they get hurt.

I think that's a well thought out take.
The bottom line is that the team is performing worse than they have under past full time NHL coaches in recent times and there isn't a single young developing player that is exceeding expectations due to the Flyers current coaching staff to give any evidence that they are anything other than below average as a coaching staff.

I see in DB a GM that’s a little gun shy. He’s made some deals but has to take on some horrid contracts to get them across the finish line. He got saved because Krug didn’t want to play in Philly and was able to escape with Sanheim still a Flyer. Imagine Krug and his Injury happening here? The botching of the whole Cutter thing still is not how a good GM would have escaped the situation.
Maybe it’s small wonder why he can’t seem to get anything done. There are some really high end young prospects that have been moved recently for what seems reasonable prices. I’m not sure if DB was in on any of them. Apparently he’s ultra busy is you believe all the pundits….and Jonesy says he’s doing a bang up job…but I just can’t get to excited with the thing that matters. RESULTS.
