i didn't say TK was absolved of any wrong-doing. but as Bouch said, he was given a hand grenade basically. doesn't matter if it went to TK or Risto, someone was going to be all over them when the puck arrived.
down low was pretty covered as well - I'd like to see Zam try to wire one through traffic - he had time. the no look pass probably threw both of them off
wasn't hard to read defensively because, as MJL said, their spacing was poor - gritty_committee
I agree but at the same time even without reading the play, there were better plays to make than a blind pass behind him. Just getting rid of the puck and turning it over is more preferable than allowing a breakaway.

Funny Torts is handling Michkov wrong yet the game immediately after being benched for a period has his best game in what months? You may not like his methods but they work. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
moments like this is why he should get coach of the year consideration. he is a smart coach, knows what buttons to push |

Just giving a different view here, but couldn't it also be possible he'd have the same performance last had he played the 3rd against Anaheim?
It's hard to quantify if benching someone works or not. - Pelle31Forever
no way torts is a genius. no other coach could turn cates into a "legit" top 9 player |

He got 7 points in last season Jack Adams vote. The great ex-flyer power forward Tocchet won with 483 points!!! |

LOL, it's a Christmas miracle. Best game in months. How long does the effect of this miracle method last?
Tortorella's methods don't work. |

hot take torts knows the PP is garbage and if he improved it they might be a bubble team getting them a worse draft pick - 2Real
And the goals against is bottom 3! Even with Torts conservative grind style! It looks like they are actually tanking
with icing 3 subpar goaltenders. đ¤ âď¸ đ |

No one says he should get coach of they year. Theres just a false narrative when it comes to Torts. Most the players who play for him like him. Every player says he's hard but fair.. He has his methods and they dont work for everyone but that applies to every coach out there. He's a good coach. Theres a reason he is the 9th all times in wins in the NHL

Yes, he has been recycled in the old boys NHL network. He hasn't done hardly anything in the last 16-17 years of coaching. He is easily the most overrated coach in hockey. The false narrative is that he is a really good coach.

You're some guy on HB also who thinks he knows, yet you have been consistently been proven wrong on most of what you post. Here are some facts for you. Since he won the Cup in 2004, in soon to be 18 seasons as an NHL head coach. He has taken a team past the 2nd round once. He has a worse winning percentage as a Flyers head coach than the two full time head coaches who came before him. He has a career winning percentage of .541. His playoff winning percentage is .467. Tell me what is so special about him as a coach? He is the most overrated coach in hockey.

He's 9th in wins because he has coached forever. in 1584 games he has won 758 and lost 789. He has left every franchise he coached in ruins. |

Recycled like Laviollette, Bowman and Maurice All 3 have coached 5 different teams.
Most coached coached on 4-5 teams in their careers. 13 of the top 50 Coaches have coache 2 teams or less

You asked why he has coached for so long. That's why. He isn't close to the level that those coaches are. The most overrated coach in hockey.

He's also 4th all time for most losses as an NHL coach. JD was pumping hard for Torts as the coach of the year last year..only shut up about it after he didn't win it. |

Teams he left were in ruin because of the GMs how often did the GMs survive post Torts in each location?
Lawton was fired 2 years after Torts
Kekäläinen was fired 3 years after
Gillis was fired right after Torts
Sather fired 2 years after Torts.
Coaches have shelf lives and the fact that the GMs all got axed within 3 years shows that the teams were either at the end of their lives or just poorly constructed.
We already know Tampa headed for a rebuild shortly after their cup win,
Columbus was a bad team that overachieved with Torts, went deep in one playoff due to the GM going all in and then lost those players to FA
Rangers firing stands out as an exception. The rangers were successful during his tenure, Missed the playoffs once,
Vancouver was another team at the end of their rope.

This is an example of what I'm talking about. Inaccurate and poorly thought out comments. GM's have a shelf life also. Columbus was not a bad team. They had strong rosters. Especially the 18/19 team. The Rangers were a stacked team that made it past the 2nd round once! Vancouver also had plenty of good players. He was a train wreck there. You should look at TB's roster for 3-4 years after the Cup win. |

Watch the play again... there was nobody near TK or Risto when the pass was sent over... Foegele only begins to step up once he sees TK having trouble corralling the puck.
Z could have shot it on net instead... but there were two Kings in the shooting lane down low and a third closing in on him up high. He made the right play to go D-to-D IMO.
TK just turned a routine play into a disaster. |

The only other option was to dump it in the empty diagonal corner. |
